A mysterious elf and a band of armored soldiers lay waste to the village of Kurin, slaying all the people that inhabited the small plains town and stealing away their children. Allion Bomar, the local smith, was no exception. Here he lay dying after failing to protect his wife and daughter from those who sought their demise. As he gazes upon the corpse of his soulmate, and watches as the elf rides off with his young daughter, he begs anyone or anything to save her. Nothing seemingly answers as he draws his last breath. He awakes to see his wife, and a strange woman who offers him a deal for revenge… and the chance to save his daughter from whatever fate lies before her.
After seeing her parents brutally murdered before her eyes, Willow Bomar is taken prisoner by a strange organization who has been capturing children from villages across the countryside. Recently orphaned she must pull herself together, or risk sharing her parents fate. Alone after the tragedy that ruined her once peaceful life, she must remain strong. For she must survive to get revenge on the man who took everything from her.
So, taking the time to re-read the first chapter I wanted to leave a quick review about my thoughts, and feelings. One thing I really want to take the time to appreciate is the author's ability to really put you in the scene with the detail provided. It was like I could see the characters standing in front of me at some points throughout the chapter. Also really enjoyed the direction the story took as it felt like in the beginning, I was coming to the end of a story only for the feeling to flip completely by the end.
Now one thing that did somewhat concern me is that at times, I did get confused about which character was which as the characters didn't introduce themselves, and we just sort of learned their names mid-sentence. It throws off the air of mystery a bit but isn't a huge deal as once again the amount of detail pulls you right back in.
At the end of the day if you are taking the time to read this review know you are in for a treat as I personally am exicted for the chapters to come!
