Characters
Zhang Xiyu

Main Character of TBL. Undead Lord of the dead.

In Chinese, "Xiyu" is written as 西玉, which is pronounced as "Xīyù". The first character, 西 (Xī), means "west", while the second character, 玉 (yù), means "precious stone" or "jade". Therefore, the name "Xiyu" can be interpreted as "gemstone of the west" or "jade of the west."

Yutao

Second Lead Character. General of Zhang Xiyu's army. Second in command and Zhang Xiyu's right hand man.

Lord Enma

Enma is the god of hell who judges right and wrong after a human dies and falls into hell. Enma gives many kinds of dreadful punishments.

Items
Dirk

A thrusting weapon, the naval dirk originally functioned as a boarding weapon and as a functional fighting dagger. During the days of sail, midshipmen and officers wore dirks; the daggers gradually evolved into ceremonial weapons and badges of office.

Location
Sanzu River

The Sanzu River is a mythological river in Japanese Buddhist tradition similar to the Chinese concept of Huang Quan (Yellow Springs), Indian concept of the Vaitarani and Greek concept of the Styx.

Miscellaneous
Shui Gui

In Chinese mythology, Water Ghosts, which are commonly known as “Water Monkeys” (水猴 shuǐ hóu), are the souls of those who committed suicide by drowning themselves, as well as those who accidentally drowned to death. These souls are trapped in the body of water they died in and will haunt that water forever, unable to make their journey through Di Yu (地狱 dì yù) and re-enter the reincarnation cycle (轮回 lún huí), until they successfully drag a living person into the water and kill them. The person they killed then takes their place as a Ti Si Gui (替死鬼 tì sǐ guǐ) – literally “swap death ghost” – and the original Water Ghost can be reincarnated.

Despite being associated with water, Water Ghosts are extremely afraid of fire. They are infinitely strong in the water and lose all their power when they step on land.

Many stories tell of Water Ghosts that lure innocent passers-by by crying or making soft splashes in the water before forcibly dragging them in, sucking on their blood and eating their eyes and nails!

Yaoguai

Yaoguai are mostly malevolent animal spirits or fallen celestial beings that have acquired magical powers through the practice of Taoism. The evil ones are usually referred to as guài (literally, "freak") or  (literally, "demon") in Chinese. Their greatest goal is achieving immortality and thus deification.

Umibōzu

Umibōzu is a giant humanoid black figure of a yōkai from Japanese folklore. Other names include Umihōshi or Uminyūdō. Little is known of the origin of umibōzu but it is a mythical sea-spirit creature.
