Chapter 44 - To The Rescue

A few minutes before.

"Chief, the troops are ready."

"Alright. Let's move out."

Nolen rode out with the war party.

The journey took about an hour, and the sun was already setting when they heard the sound of fighting.

"Looks like we're almost there."

"Let's go."

As they moved toward the battle, they found the scouting party engaged with the Wild Oracnids while protecting another group of orcs that did not seem to be part of the Red Sun Tribe.

"Looks like we got here just in time."

The troops were surrounded, and the scouting party was exhausted as their lines were about to collapse. A shout was heard.

"Attack!"

It was Nolen with his Red Sun war party charging at the horde.

“Prepare to fire!” He shouted.

The orcs then prepared their heavy longbows and let loose a volley of heavy arrows. Due to the natural strength of orcs, each arrow they shot had a similar force as a ballista. Due to the Orcanid being a sizeable insect-like creature, they had hexapod locomotion, making them very stable as mounts for the orcs. Unlike two- or four-legged creatures, the tamed Oracnids were faster and far more stable, which gave the orcs even better control when using and aiming their bows. They were like mobile ballistas mounted on a tank.

The first volley hit the wild Oracnids, killing and injuring several of them.

"Charge!"

Nolen led the charge, and the other orcs followed.

"For the Chief! For the tribe!"

"Charge!"

The orcs began to engage the Wild Oracnids. Meanwhile, the Red Sun goblins prepared their repeater bows and crossbows.

This was something new Nolen created for them. He knew the goblins were not as strong as an orc and were relatively close to an average human in strength. So, he made sure they made up for it with volume.

As soon as the war party was in the range of the fight, the goblins let loose their volley, while the orcs, after shooting while closing the distance, started to prepare for the impact of the charge. They kept their bow and pulled out their weapons, such as axes and swords while readying their shields.

The goblins let loose all their arrows and separated from the charge. They reloaded while splitting left and right, creating a V formation.

They were to provide cover fire from both sides while the orcs slammed into the enemy Orcanids that were engaging the scouting party.

The Wild Orcanids were caught off guard, and the arrows or the charge killed many.

Nolen's eyes were glowing a bright red as it was infused with his solar power.

He then unleashed his power on the closest Oracnids from his hands, unleashing the energy he stored.

The beam instantly killed the poor creatures.

Nolen expressed frustration about not being at full strength yet. However, he was relieved to have regained the ability to absorb a small amount of solar energy and use it. At this point, he was uncertain whether he would fully recover his strength or how long that process might take. Additionally, he struggled to control this ability completely, indicating that it would still be some time before he regained complete control.

"Let's go!"

The orcs charged into the horde as they heard Nolen's voice and saw the opening.

"Prepare the totems! We'll need to weaken the enemy before we can fight the stronger ones. Goblins continue to fire and suppress them." Nolen shouted his last-minute instructions for them.

"For the chief! For the tribe!"

The goblins prepared their totems and fired their volleys as the orcs slammed into the enemy's backline.
