The morning was a bit chilly considering it was summer. I was standing outside looking out at the village with people getting ready for their day. Looking out, I couldn't help but to feel a bit saddened that I would be leaving soon. The Rosswave’s are finishing checking their supplies. We agreed to depart at the same time at the gate as they wanted to head east and I was to head north west to reach the Laedegon Empire where I would finally meet my mentor.

Mother seemed to be in her room preparing the gift she said I would be given before I departed. I almost wanted to decline as she gained a depressed look in her eyes. I decided it was about time to head inside and grab my supplies as it was about departing time.

I grabbed my supplies and by the entrance way mother was standing with Mr. Rosswave with a complex look. Mother saw me and smiled. I knew it was a forced smile because it didn’t radiate a warm feeling like when she was truly happy. She was gripping a sword so hard her fingers looked like they were screaming for help or to let go.

“Silas, I know this is something that every child leaves home eventually and that you are going to for studying. I just wanted to give you this. You are going to need it since you have to travel on foot for your protection. This was your father’s sword on the night of the rampage. You are going to face hardships both studying and on your travels so I wanted you to give you his sword as he never gave up to the end. He also would want you to have the sword. I am just having a hard time letting both of you go at once.”

“If it’s that important why not just keep it and I'll take the one I have now.”

She shook her head and stated that his final instructions were to give this sword when you left home. He died from exhaustion and wounds he got from fighting all night. That was his final request to my mother. She couldn’t partake in the battle as she was carrying me inside.

I simply nodded and took the sword she held out. When I grabbed the handle I felt a chilly sensation on my spine again like when I was younger. I also felt a connection to the sword like it was trying to communicate with me.

“Are you okay silas?” Mr. Rosswave asked.

“Yeah I'm fine, just a little chill is all.” I even threw in a small chuckle.

Both of them looked at each other with a look but they decided not to say anything and with that we all of us departed towards the village gate. Mrs. Rosswave was apparently outside waiting. On the walk I couldn't help but think about all the memories I had because just a week ago I was still playing with my friends and now after I leave none of the trio would be here anymore.

We are outside the gate and I hugged the Rosswave’s and thanked them for all they did and staying in the village to tutor me all these years. I admit I felt a bit emotional and almost started crying. Next was mother and I couldn't hold back my tears as I cried because it would mean she would be all alone in that house. She put on a smile and hugged me and said that she would be here so there would be a place to return to if i ever needed it.

After gathering myself it was time to depart. I began walking towards Khara where I haven't been since the ceremony. I made it my first stop to stop by the adventuring guild for information. If i’m going to be traveling by foot i would like to know what beasts to be on the lookout for. I was a few hours by carriage meaning I was looking at about a full day’s travel by foot. Once this road connects up with one that heads east I should be mostly safe as it has more travelers on it.

With that I began my travels.
