Rose looked up from the table that held her and Mab’s homework and gazed longingly at her friend.

“I think I need a break.”

Mab wore a beautiful sleeveless blue dress that she had changed into when she had gotten home. The angle of her face looking down at the papers hid her eyes behind the delicate looking frames of her glasses, but not the faint freckles the lined her nose and cheeks. Her skin was white as snow and she probably felt a little cool to the touch, though Rose knew she was fine.

“Since you mention it, it’s about time for dinner.”

Rose nodded her head. “Wanna do the usual?”

“You cook and I handle desert?” She smirked. “Sounds good to me. You know I love to be treated.”

Rose stood up and turned for the door. “Yeah, well I like to treat you.”

She left the room before Mab could see her blush.

* * *

“I give you: FOOD!”

On each plate was a chicken breast, lightly spiced and cooked with lemons. More lemon juice was used in place of vinegar in the dressing for the garden salad that accompanied it, with the meal being rounded off by a slice of fresh bread (which Rose didn’t actually cook. They bought it on the way home).

Rose picked up her her drink (Sweet Iced Tea with Lemon) and held it up. “Cheers.”

“Cheers,” Mab replied with a grin on her face. “It smells delicious.”

“Hopefully it tastes great too.” Rose took a sip. “tch, it’s still warm.”

“Let’s see what I can do about that.”

Mab leaned over the table and carefully took Rose’s glass from her hand. With a playful smirk circled the crystal’s rim with her finger once, twice, three times before moving the glass to her mouth. With deliberate slowness she took a long whiff from the drink and then placed the glass to her lips, taking the smallest a sips.

Blushing a little, she quickly handed the drink back. The outside of the glass was frosted as if it had been in a freezer. “I don’t know, seems fine to me.”

* * *

“That was sooooo good!”

“Good but filling. I’m not sure I could have eaten any more.”

“Oh?” Mab put on another smirk, eyebrow raised. “Sure you don’t have room for dessert?”

Rose blushed a little in spite of herself while Mab’s smirk turned into a full smile in response.

“Okay Misses sweet tooth.” She reached into the fridge. “Coconut Cream or Strawberry Fudge?”

“Fudge.” Rose didn’t even hesitate.

“I suppose I need not have asked, my little Chocolate fiend.” Mab tossed the small tub to her friend and removed the wooden spoon from her own container. Rose just smiled in choco-strawberry bliss.

“I think next time I’ll have to get two chocolates. Otherwise I’ll never get any myself.”

“Do you want to try some?” It was Rose’s turn to sport of mischievous grin and accompanying blush. Mab only nodded her head.

Rose scooped a scoop of chocolatey ice cream, double checking to make sure there was a chunk of strawberry in it, and carefully moved it across the table, hand trailing underneath to guard against spilling, to just in front of Mab. the Other girl was wearing a blush at least as strong as Rose’s now, but opened her mouth and stuck out her tongue just a bit so as to accept the offered dessert from her friend.

Mab’s mouth closed around the spoon and Rose slowly pulled it back. They stared into one another’s eyes, both blushing furiously, both smiling out of the corner of their mouth.
