“What if their families or underlings try to get revenge?” Ren asked.
“The fewer fools in the world, the better,” Leon said. “I will give those who may seek revenge tickets to the same place I will send those who screw with me.”
Ren thought that Leon was more pacifist than that, but considering that he said that he would bring back his compatriots who killed the prince. It wasn’t all that strange… it has been a long time since someone defied the emperor’s orders, but several individuals were executed after the emperor, and his army retrieved Tokyo. To think that he would see that again after such a long time… Ren already grew used to deaths, but only in the battles against monsters. He couldn’t help but feel like the world was causing unnecessary deaths when someone was executed.
When Leon and Ren arrived at the dungeon, they decided to talk about the earth dragons. That being said, Leon already knew a lot of them. The only thing he didn’t know was what their bodies could be used for.
“Earth dragons are the weakest typer of dragons, so their scales aren't that resistant,” Ren explained. “To make things worse, their scales are naturally heavy since earth covers their bodies. A person who uses armor or a shield made of earth dragon scales will certainly become more sturdy, but that person will also become stupidly slow. But, their bones are pretty good, if you have the skills you can make pretty much everything and the effectiveness of those are reliable.”
“Bones, huh…” Leon frowned. “It must be pretty hard to get those.”
“The work is hard, but it is worth the hassle,” Ren said. “But you don’t have to worry about the time; this will be the last dungeon. You will probably a few days to rest, so we should be able to dismantle the dragons before you depart.”
“I don’t intend to rest a single day,” Leon said.” Once I finish my job, I will ask for my reward.”
“… Well, in that case, I will give your money once you return with the men who killed the prince.” Ren said. “Ah… Although the bones are valuable, dragons’ hearts are even more. If you eat them, they can increase your status.”
“I can’t imagine that being something tasty or pleasant…” Leon frowned. “Well, if they really capable of that, I will eat anyway.”
When they arrived at the dungeon, Leon understood why earth dragons were the weakest type of dragons. First of all, they were small. They weren’t even ten meters long, and without wings, they didn’t look that imposing. However, the boss of that dungeon would be, without a doubt, one hell of a dragon.
Several men and women were working outside the dungeon; some were sharpening their weapons while others were cleaning their wounds and drinking potions. Leon made a mental note that it looked like even potions couldn’t prevent a wound from getting infected.
Leon looked in the distance and saw three camps, all of them were dismantling earth dragons, but the number of corpses was quite small. Regardless, Leon and Ren moved to talk to with the manager of the dungeon, and there they found several figures aside from the manager and the imperial soldiers.
Ren bowed to those people and said something; it looked like he was telling them who Leon was and what he was going to do. After that, those men who weren’t imperial soldiers stepped forward, they said something, and then they offered a handshake.
“It is a pleasure to meet you, Leon, you look younger than I thought,” A tall man who was carrying a battle-ax said. “My name is Mafuyu, and His majesty gave the order to my team and I assist you.”
“Nice to meet ya.” Leon accepted the handshake.
Although Mafuyu was carrying a battle-ax, he didn’t look that strong, and his body was pretty slender. His teammates were also pretty slim; their weapons were short swords, short spears, and daggers. It looked like they were the type who liked to move a lot, attack fast and retreat before the enemy can counter-attack.
“So, I imagine you guys have already fought in this dungeon,” Leon said. “Am I right?”
“Yeah, we have plenty of experience.” Mafuyu nodded and tapped on his left chest, showing his confidence.
“That will help,” Leon smiled. “So, who do you guys work for?”
“Excuse me?” Mafuyu frowned.
“I’m asking who is your boss; I need to know the name of my benefactor, right?” Leon asked.
“Ah, that is right,” Mafuyu nodded. “We are the best soldiers under the direct command of Lord Seiji. He is deeply ashamed of his actions when he first saw you, so he offered to send us when His Majesty decided to offer support.”
“Who?” Leon frowned.
“Lord Seiji is the advisor who hit the ground when you talked with His Majesty,” Ren explained.
“Ah! The baldie!” Leon smiled. “I will thank him later and say to him not to worry, that is water under the bridge.”
“Hahaha, that is right!” Mafuyu laughed.
Although the conversation seemed pretty light, Ren was sweating bullets, even though Mafuyu and the others didn’t look offended by Leon’s words. Rather, aside from Mafuyu, the other four men were pretty quiet, and they barely moved their muscles in that entire time. It looked like they were already ready to enter the dungeon.
“Well, shall we enter the dungeon?” Leon asked. “The sooner we enter, the sooner we will clear it. I don’t want to take much of your time, so I will work hard.”
“What about the workers and me, shall we accompany you?” Ren asked.
“No, once we secure the majority of the dungeon, we will let you guys come,” Leon answered. “For the time being, you guys wait here.”
Great idea: refuse to have any witnesses while diving into the most dangerous dungeon in all of Japan with a team of elite soldiers you have only just met and you suspect were sent to murder you by a butthurt high noble when practically all of Japan already hate you on sight.
What a moron.
He literally knows that's why they're there and plans to kill them, so everything you mentioned is irrelevant as a question of his intelligence. What is moronic is not having a witness to say they attacked first, but he might be considering that they may take someone hostage or kill the witness before trying to kill him.
I think he should keep a witness, it would seem pretty suspicious if he just kills them out of sight
Why does he want to slaughter those people, does he think the emperor will still give him the information then? At first I thought the mc just made bad decisions like normal people. But this guy seems to be truly stupid. If he was the strongest in the world, this would be okay(he wouldn’t really need to clear the dungeons the ) but he isn’t or we aren’t told. He doesn’t have systematic training on how to fight and Ren already indirectly revealed that powerful families or groups have access to the same type of magic he uses (the ones without skill tomes) . If author wanted to make an mc with this type of reasoning a 15 year old would have been more suitable. I think he was 22 when he got on the island and 26 four years later. This mc is such a disappointment sixty something chapters into the novel. I hope this doesn’t continue. Either that or this mc dies and another one takes his place. You can do that in this novel, just slap this guy with some common sense, or remove the chunnibyou mentality he is developing.
Hahahaha, commenting after myself feels weird. Just finished reading the chapter. So he clears five dungeons and still has to bring back people that killed emperor’s son. When was this discussed? Author do you find this reasonable. If you do, think of this situation:
You are extremely strong. Stronger than the leader of the settlement and have all the means to escape if you kill him. You are looking for a safe passage out of the settlement that isn’t really necessary if you went out and scouted paths slowly while remaining careful. You are hated and looked down upon by people of that settlement. You are given the task of clearing all the remaining obstacles for the settlement which will give them tremendous benefits in the future and will provide materials to increase their collective strength which you readily sell to them. Then to top it off, you have to go to your destination, scout for information and find people that killed the settlement leaders son and bring those people back before they give you the reward for the strongest monsters. In other words they keep the cash you are meant to gain after killing the monsters. You signed no contract, the people hated you and you had alternatives but you still did it. Then you figure out that while you are about to hunt the last batch of monsters a group of their strongest warriors are sent to accompany you. But, you still decide to kill the monsters and teach them a lesson while doing it, despite not knowing the exact strength of the monsters or the multiple people they sent. If you watch a movie and you see a character like that, how will you describe him or her?
@YanYan Hahaha, thought I was done with the chapter but actually wasn’t. Mc decided to describe the master of these people as baldie ,funny. The amount of respect they have for him can be noticed as they refer to him as ‘Lord’ . This is a classic example of where you can aggravate people who were not you enemies or may have been planning do do you harm ( but not kill you) to the point where they start longing to tear you limb from limb. He wasn’t like this when he first arrived. He was more respectful or he ignored people if they came looking for trouble. Now, he actively seeks it, while he needs a favour from these people. They have nothing binding them to complete his wish apart from their conscience, which for many people is easy to kill if you are dealing with someone you dislike or hate. The emperor could easily change his mind and what can mc do? He can either kill him (highly unlikely) or find another way. All he would get for his efforts is 1/3 the amount of money he should have gotten from killing the monsters. So what would killing these people do for him then? It would give him more enemies and reduce his chances of getting his already meager rewards. All for what? Momentary satisfaction I guess? I repeat myself again, this is not how a 26 year old should or would act. Unless they have certain mental defects. But he showed his mental fortitude and determination and willingness to cut off distractions when stuck on the island. So far, reading this makes me feel that his character is degenerating. This can even lead to him endangering his family if he’s not careful. And this will turn into a revenge story. Well this is an okay novel so far. I hope author sees this and can maybe slide in some events that can correct mc’s character rather than giving what I see as half baked justifications for his growing chunnibyou syndrome.
Why doesn't he just get Ryoko (the woman who can see if spoken words are the truth) and just ask question to those guys? Like ''Are you planning to cause harm to me?'' or something.
He already knows they are going to harm him. He is going to send a message to their boss by slaughtering them
@drakensji how? he should only suspect it, he might really just try to make amends, not a reason to drop your guard though.
@skiterz That would be troublesome and time consuming: better to move by action.
@Charizma I see, so you kill people that might apologize to you? Sure there is a high chance their intentions are not genuine, but you can't really rule out that they might be genuine either, it's wrong to judge a book by it's cover, even if we all do it to an extent.
You should know that he 'suspects' that they want to screw him over, so it's not certain, even if it's time consuming, i bet it would be even more time consuming if they happened to be genuine and he kills them.
Spoiler because of spoiling reasons. (the spoil will be known once he meets the emperor again)
He is also being followed by a ninja, so all his actions are being seen, thus if he kills them in cold blood the emperor will know.
@skiterz I said to move by action, not suspicions.
