“Oh yeah, I was meaning to ask you something. Are you in love with Iris?”, I nonchalantly asked Leo.

“Pffft.”, Leo spilled his tea all over the table after hearing my question.

We were having lunch… well he was having lunch while I watched since I’m a ghost. During my magic training I was finally able to cast a spell, so now we were taking a short break.

“W-wha-what are you talking about! I’m not into her or anything!”, Leo responded after he cleaned himself from the tea.

“The way you responded and also the way your ears turned red, I would say I hit spot on.”, I said.

I wanted to see his reaction if I asked that.

“So uhm… do you like her?”, he asked me in return.

“Me? Nah, not really.” I answered.

It’s not that I don’t like it’s rather I feel respect towards her and also I don’t even know how it feels like to be in love, I wouldn’t call sexual desire ‘Love’ either.

“I-is that so.” Leo sighed with relief.

“Oh, I have another question it’s about the status system. Is it really that easy to give somebody a name?”

“Well it’s not that easy, the person whose name is being given to must have no name and must accept it.” Leo shortly explained.

“There’s also the skill system, why do I not have any skills from when I was still alive.”

‘I’m pretty sure I did something worth a skill like housework or… housework!’, I thought.

“That’s because you lose all your skills when you die and become a spirit, and your mana also decreases. After all you don’t have body anymore to keep your skills.”

I guess that would make sense, imagine a spirit which you can’t touch to be able to fight like a goddamn ninja.

“One more thing I want to say. Thank you for everything you did for me. I’m very, very grateful. I hope I can make it up for you and Iris” I tanked him.

“Oh you don’t have to make it up for m—.” Leo was about to say but then I interrupted and said “NO! I have to make it up for you and Iris or else… this feeling of guilt won’t disappear.”

I hated getting helped by others unless it was their job. When I got help from people I felt like I owed them and that I had to make up for it. When somebody wanted to buy me something in the convenience store, I had to refuse because I didn’t want to feel indebted, but the worse part it’s when somebody did so much for you and you feel a deep guilt for not doing anything for them.

“Hmm… fine then one day you’ll make up for it.”, he said brushing this little matter off to the side when suddenly somebody made an appearance

“Hello Shiro, Leo, what were you two talking about”, Iris said, as if she had been listening to the whole conversation.

“N-n-nothing in particular, I was just explaining, Shiro here about the status system.”, Leo said as he remembered my first question about love.

“Hey Leo.”, I called out to him.

“What?”, Leo responded as he turned around to look back at me.

“I’m rooting for you.”, I teased.

Suddenly he turned beat red and I started laughing, while Iris was confused as to why I was laughing.

Later on I had magic training together with Leo, since he told me that just knowing one spell isn’t enough and that I had to train my precision and mana control.

Right now, I was shooting ‘Mana Bullets’ one after another trying to hit a target with the assistance of Leo on the mana supply.

“I’m so jealous.”, I muttered as I felt my body becoming sluggish after my tenth ‘Mana Bullet’.

“Look you can’t be jealous, just because your body doesn’t have a lot of mana.” Leo said as a drop of sweat started rolling down his cheek because he was using too much mana.

“No, it’s not that. It’s the fact that you guys can eat and taste food!”, I said.

“But isn’t that a good thing you don’t need to eat to regain your strength and get energy.” Leo thought of it as an advantage.

“That’s not the point here what I mean is I like to taste food. Like pasta, pizza and other foods as well.”

“Pizza? Pasta? What are those?”

‘Crap, I forgot those foods might not exist in this world’, I thought as I tried to think up an excuse.

“Uh, forget it, but you do get what my point is?”

“Yeah I get it. Unfortunately, I can’t do anything for you.” Said Leo as he started to gather mana again.

I continued thinking about a way to eat and taste food as a certain idea came up in my mind. How could I not have thought about that?

“Question. Is it possible for you to make your own spells for your magic attribute?” I asked, as I started putting the gears together in my mind for a spell.

“Well—, it’s possible however it might be a difficult task for a beginner, even I haven’t created a ‘Wind Attribute Magic’ spell.”, Leo said.

I asked Leo how to make a spell yourself, to make a spell you need to have good control over your Mana and have a lot of mana yourself. ‘Mana Control’ not just makes it easier to control mana it also decreases the amount of mana needed for a spell. That’s why you need a good amount of control and mana to make a spell.

What you also need is imagination, so that you can form the spell and materialize it the way you want.

“Okay I got it.” I said with a malicious smile creeping up on my face.

“Oh no, I have a bad feeling about this.” Said Leo as he started to slowly back away but then I turned around and told him.

“Let’s do a spartan training”

<< You have acquired the Skill ‘Surpass Limits’ >>

<< The levels of ‘Mana Control’ and No-Attribute Magic’ have increased. >>

We spent the rest of the day just training without stopping it came to the point where I lost consciousness multiple times and Leo lost his strength in his legs and fell to the ground with his face flat on the ground.

It’s been said that if a person acquires the skill ‘Surpass Limits’ means that they overworked themselves to the point of over exhaustion and ended up surpassing their limits.

Normally I’m not the type of person to do something unless I have a good reason for it and I gain something from it, because I’m not going to do it especially if its excuse is ‘because I said so’. Seriously my previous parents!

“Ple-pleeeaaase, could we huff sto-puff stop! Because of this ‘spartan’ training I’ve gained the ‘Surpass Limits’ skill and I can’t feel my legs anymore.”, Leo argued with sweat and heavy breaths.

We didn’t do any physical training we did magic practice, and if I have to say it’s far far faaaar better than P.E.

“That’s good now you have huff another skill to your status.”, I said with a pained smile.

“Not every skill is a good skill you know!!!”, he shouted his last breath before losing consciousness.

‘I wonder what excuse I should tell Iris.’, I thought as I looked around the training grounds.

There was nobody here anymore, all elves have already left the training grounds. It’s normally open between the afternoon and midnight that should tell you how long we were here.

‘Well it doesn’t matter, I need to go somewhere private to try my theory out’, I thought as I slowly floated over to Leo.

“HEY!!! Wake the hell up! C’mon!” I shouted directly into his ear, however there was no response.

‘No reaction fine! I’ll play dirty.’

“If you don’t wake up now I’m going to do something very bad.” I shouted into his ear yet again but he still didn’t move a budge.

‘Fine you gave me no choice then!’

“If you don’t wake up now, I’m going to strip you naked right here and now!”, I shouted and this time his eyes shot open as if his alarm went off for the third time.

“You dirty bastard…”, Leo muttered

“Finally you’re up now come on let’s go or Iris will get worried.”, I said, as I tried to drag him but my hands went right through him.

“I need you to help me for one last thing tonight, so please stand up!”, I requested of him

“Alright, alright. Where are we going though?”, Leo asked as he finally stood up from the stone floor that was below him.

“Oh, we’re going over to Iris’s house.” I boldly declared.

“Huuuuuuh? Why there!?”, Leo said as he finally snapped to his original self .

“Because I live in a separate room there and I need ‘you’ to help me with something in private.”, I said.

“O-o-okay” Leo said as he finally gave up on resisting.

“Shiro! Leo! I was really worried about you two! What were you two doing up this late?”, Iris said with both an angry and worried expression.

“We were practicing magic in the training grounds and we ended up ‘pushing our limits’” I explained while dropping droplets of sweat here and there(?).

“Uhhh. Fine it’s no problem. Leo you’re probably hungry I’ll go fetch you some dinner.”, Iris said but then I told her. “Make some for me as well.”

“Uhm… Shiro you know…”, Iris had her tongue tied while trying to come up with a friendly sentence.

“Don’t worry about it, just make it please.”, I said

She then left while saying fine behind her back and went to get dinner.

“Alright, we have..… thirty minutes until dinner is ready.”, I muttered, as I turned around facing Leo.

“Why did you make her make food for waste! You know very well you can’t eat it’ll go right through you, and you can’t feel hunger!”, Leo said.

“Don’t worry you idiot. I have an idea.” I said heading inside.

We went upstairs and followed a small hallway to my room. Leo opened the door to my room, I went facing a mirror on the wall, unfortunately I have no reflection.

“Okay, tell me? Why did you bring me over here?”, Leo asked.

“I was thinking about making a spell, and I need you to explain me the process of making one.”

“You? Make a spell? You must be kidding.”, Leo said, thinking that I was just kidding.

“Well, I’m not kidding, and we never know whether or not it will work.”

To make a spell you need to have a precise idea of what you want to make. For example: the spell ‘Mana Bullet’ was made with the idea of a small ball of materialized mana and then use mana to shoot it as well.

“So what’s your idea for a spell?”, Leo asked.

“Good thing that you asked young Watson. The spell that I’m making is called ‘Materialization’. If I control the mana well enough, I might be able to materialize my body and then be able to eat some decent food!”, I explained the process of the spell I want to make, while Leo was looking at me as if I’m the very defenition of thrash.

“So, you’re telling me you did all that spartan training just for a bowl of food?!”, Leo asked with an annoyed expression.

“Well yeah, like who would not like to eat something that tastes good?”, I answered as if it were nothing out of the ordinary.

“You glutton.” That was the only thing that Leo said before I started making my spell.

‘If this goes well, I’ll be able to eat all types of things.’, I thought as a motivation.

Back on earth I loved eating, of course as long as it was good food that is.

‘Here goes nothing… wait a minute didn’t I already use this sentence?’

I started concentrating on the mana in my body trying to harden it all over my body. As long as I keep the image of my body becoming visible and physical, I should be able to do it.

I felt my body becoming hot and started feeling sluggish because of the overuse of mana but it isn’t as bad as before, because my ‘Mana Control’ skill went up.

“N-n-no way! It’s actually working!!!”, Pointing his finger at me Leo exclaimed.

I looked at my hands and they looked like normal skin, well most of it and my body started gaining more color.

<< You acquired the Skill ‘Materialization’ >>

“YEAAAHHHH!!! I did it I can finally eat.”, I excitedly screamed with tears pouring out of my eyes.

“Yeah, yeah that’s good and all but… could you please put some clothes on!” Leo said while covering his eyes and trying to keep me away from his line of sight.

After I put on some clothes from the drawer in my room I went downstairs to eat dinner. Finally, my meal will be legendary!!!

“Shiro is that you?”, Iris asked with a surprised expression.

“Well, who else would it be.”, I responded proudly.

“But, how?”, Iris wondered.

“I made an ‘No-Attribute Magic’ spell that allows me to materialize my body.”, I shortly explained and then said. “Never mind about that I want to eat and taste something!”

“That’s really good for you just wait a sec, I made some soup for you two to eat.”, Iris said and shortly after brought a bowl of soup to the dining table.

Finally, my first meal ever since I came to this world I wonder how it will taste.

Slurp

It doesn’t taste good at all!!!
