“I suppose you’re going to be driving me home right?”

“Yeah, don’t worry about the explanation Shinjeo, I’ll talk with your parents for a bit.”

“Thanks a lot, Quinton.”

Quinton seemed to be a helpful guy to me so far. I’d watch out however, I didn’t know if he had any intentions on me. There weren’t a lot of people you could trust after the “awakening.” There was a period of chaos after it happened and many chose to only save themselves.

“We’re coming soon to your home, let’s have a talk about your new school life alright?”

“So what am I expecting?”

“You’ll have a dorm with two others, boys and girls separated. Mainly you’ll be going to our normal classes above ground and following up to take the portal to your Schwalbe Classes.”

“I see, to balance out your reputation as a normal school and a school for Schwalbes.”

“Of course, to the public we must remain unnoticed.”

“So I’m assuming I’ll be going to school as usual and following up after school to do “extracurriculars”

“Correct, Shinjeo. You’re good at this, you should be a teacher at our school!”

He looked at me with a wide smile. Yeah, this guy probably wasn’t going to do anything, but I’ll keep my guard up for now. I have felt his energy before. He is an experienced Schwalbe, probably in the top ten thousand as I was. There weren’t many who held this much power in the beginning.

“You’ll be undergoing tests and we will strengthen your body for Schwable Combat further. I trust you know how durable you must be to monster attacks.”

I nodded in agreement. I have seen many who did not have strong abilities or a well-built body to withstand attacks from monsters. There were strategies to fight monsters without much need of strong abilities or a strong body, but those resources were not given to the public yet.

“Those who cannot fly need to be protected by those whose wings fly above the rest. My father told me that when I awakened at the age of fifteen.”

“What happened to you sir?”

“I had the wings to fly, but those wings could not fly above the rest for me. You must grow strong, the coming storm will bring pain to many.”

“I understand, I will do my best.”

His eyes burned with passion, he seemed to remember a distant memory. So, there were already awakened individuals in the past. Although, I think it was a rare case and many probably hid their powers. I remember when I first awakened, when faced with immense loss, my Ether Circuits surged and brought out my Electricity. Awakening was hard to achieve through normal means, immense emotion and pain was a big part of it. There were different cases where awakening was activated.

I still can remember it like it was yesterday, I closed my eyes are brought the scene back, the one that reminded me everyday what I was fighting for.

“Run! Go, take your brother with you, I can’t hold them off for long.”

My father and mother were nowhere to be seen, I already knew they were gone. A schwalbe was fighting off monsters on his own to aid us in our escape. Monsters were swaming our house. I knew my mom and dad were out, my sister, this schwalbe and the monsters were the only things around me.

“Shiny, we have to leave now, this man is giving us a chance.”

“Rish, I don’t wanna let him die here, I’m sick and tired of seeing people die.”

At this point, the city was ravaged, the schwalbes that came were too late. There were very few people left at this point. Many died or ran from all the conflict. My sister and I were lucky enough to meet and hide in our home. This schwalbe came by in the nick of time, food was running low and monsters were surrounding us, knowing our scent faintly.

“There’s no time! Run! I will follow you!”

My sister took my hand and she ran out through our yard with me. We climbed the fence and ran through the street. There was no way we would make it out, but we could go on. The schwalbe had abilities that let him fight with immense speed. He was a Tempest Archer. I longed for the speed and the power to protect my sister. As we ran, he shot monsters away with his bow, he looked so beautiful as gusts of wind came forth from each arrow.

“Don’t worry, I called back-up! They should be here soon with a vehicle to transport us all!”

My sister and I looked at each other with hope as we made it through the monsters who tried to attack us. The archer gave us hope, we would make it out of here together. That’s what I had thought until a hand grabbed her away from me.

“No! Rish! We have to go together.”

“It’s too late now Shiny, promise me you’ll shine like a gem you are in the dust.”

“I can’t make it in time kid!”

I watched as the huge monster emerged, it looked like a demon. The single eye it had seemed to laugh at me as he held my sister. My sister closed her eyes as she smiled and I heard a single sound.

“Crack!”

The monster let go of her lifeless body and it opened its mouth to laugh at me. He crushed her with a crack.

“How dare you?! No! I was going to protect her!”

My eyes glowed as the electricity poured out of me. I wasn’t going to let this damn thing live. He took the last thing I loved. The last thing that kept me from letting it all out.

“You will die here beast.”

I held my hand up and ran up to it quicker than it’s eyes could track me. I activated the first skill of my awakening.

“Lightning Bond.”

“Rebound.”

All of my emotions were taken and converted into a single blow. A blow that held all my anger and sorrow, I lost everything, and now I was going to throw everything towards this monster. The monster’s eyes blacked out and I opened my eyes to my house.
