Gary's parents were an Pokemon champion before defeated and so were Ashley's parents.

Although only Ashley's dad was champion and her mother is an Pokemon performer. 

Gary dad was Kanto champ before but was defeated just some days later by her dad. 

And Gary's mom was jhoto champ before defeated by Drake but she keep the seat of champions for decade under her. 

Plus Gary's Mom is Pokemon Researcher with Gary's dad now.

" Look at my boy!  aren't he looking husband material for your girl " Said Gary's Dad. 

" Shut Up! My Little bunny will not Marry Your Son! " Answered Ashley's Dad.
