Death and blood filled the surroundings as Rin killed the people outside the temple. The number of people defending the temple had decreased to a mere twenty.

With their lives at stake, any scruples the guards had behind releasing wide-ranged abilities and magic were disappeared.

Icy crystals, spatial tears, wind blades, and various other magical attacks were released from all the guards in the surroundings.

With Rin’s experience, though, how could she not be prepared for such an eventuality? Activating a small brooch, a dense mana shield appeared around her and blocked the majority of the oncoming attacks. The spatial type attacks managed to breach the mana barrier, however Rin physically dodged those attacks before charging toward those who released them.

Through intermittent dropping and reactivation of the barrier, she swiftly cut the throats of those releasing spatial attacks.

Those guards furthest away from the ongoing battle made a split second, yet unanimous decision, and ran away.

Otherwise, they might not the chance to later.

In fact, even those guards and people closer to the battle wanted to run away. Sadly, their close proximity to Rin made that a dangerous proposition.

In any situation where two forces are battling, if one side suddenly decided to stop fighting, they are putting their fate in the opponent’s hands.

Regardless, whether through panic or fear, several guards closer to the battle choose to run away.

Whilst these guards can be called ‘elite’ in the Residential Zone, their strength and mentality cannot be compared to the actual strong of the guilds. After all, these are the ‘elites’ who decided to hang around in the Residential Zone instead continuing forward to fight in the frontier of the zones.

Whether it is mentality or power, they are far weaker than those who decided to continue forward challenging the zones.

Additionally, these ‘elite’ guards knew they were not an opponent of Rin. Instead of sticking around for an eventual death, they might as well attempt to escape and have a chance of survival.

Rin didn’t target those retreat and instead focused on those still fighting.

Fortunately for them, Rin merely wanted to show off her strength and intimidate those who would bother her in the future. Rin never considered them to be a proper enemy.

If she killed everyone and nobody knew who caused this slaughter, wouldn’t this be entire pointless? After all, the goal is to scare people away from targeting her in the future.

Thus, if anyone retreated Rin wouldn’t continue to bother them. Had Rin considered them a proper enemy, none would have been left alive.

However, none of the remaining guards were stupid.

Realizing they wouldn’t be targeted for running away, the remaining guards immediately ordered a strategic retreat.

Stick around? Is that a joke? They would only end up like the other bodies on the floor. A far greater threat was coming now that she’d slaughter so many people. Why should they throw away their lives when she’d die anyway?

There might be consequences for choosing to run away, but that’s something to deal with in the future.

If they didn’t run away, they wouldn’t have a future.

The surroundings quickly emptied of people, and a still quietness fell over the area. Only the overwhelming stench of blood and death filled the air.

Stepping over the approximately thirty bodies surrounding it, Rin entered the pyramid and glanced around the surroundings.

The pyramid was split into seven platforms with magical patterns drawn upon them. An open room with large tables and many chairs existed to the side of the pyramid.

Unsurprisingly, everyone inside the pyramid had already left.

Whilst guild managers had been inside here, anyone confident in their fighting ability would’ve gone out when the fight started. Those staying inside had been either confident in the force outside or cowardly.

Regardless, when the situation outside turned into a slaughter, they unanimously choose to escape from the temple. While the pyramid only had one physical entrance, there were still the teleportation beacons for to Hard Difficulty.

They only needed to choose one to escape from any potential dangers, which is part of the reason this place was chosen to host the meeting.

Of course, Rin could follow them into the teleportation beacons. The teleportation beacons only stopped people from a lower difficulty from teleporting into a higher difficulty. (Although, where she could teleport to would be limited by the number of zones of Hell Difficulty she’d completed.)

Chasing them through the teleportation portals was relatively pointless, though. Rin would only manage to find a small portion of the people at best and she’d already accomplished her goal.

Taking out Tobias’ umbrella out of her bag, Rin placed in down on the nearby table and sat down. While the meeting here was part of the reason that Rin had come here, it hadn’t been the only reason.

Kara would return to the Residential Zone later on tonight. Rin especially hadn’t wanted any of those people to disturb her.

Whilst Rin sat inside thinking quietly to herself, a dull rain began to patter outside and Rin lifted Tobias’ umbrella above her head.

With the umbrella above her head, despite being inside a building, glowing rain began pattering on the umbrella above her and a strange scene began to play out.

A cold rain began dripping through the ceiling of the pyramid. The rain water glowing with a blue hue and soaking the floor with a dull light.

This glowing rain only covered the pyramid and the street immediately outside it, yet this rain water seemed to ignore the ceiling of the pyramid.

The rain washed away the blood from the bodies and within several seconds the bodies dissolved completely.

Not a gram of organic matter remained in the vicinity, save for Rin who was safe underneath Tobias’ umbrella.

While this rain drops through inorganic matter, it completely dissolves anything organic and is absolutely deadly. The peaceful glowing water would completely melt the skin, muscle, and bones of anyone stupid enough to remain in the vicinity.

This rain can be called an automated response of the system to the slaughtering of a large number of individuals. It is designed, not only to clean up the area, but dissolve the killer into a puddle of mush.

Don’t look at the relatively peaceful atmosphere. This old universe is a deadly place and required strong restrictions to prevent the extinction of entire species.

Whilst killing a couple people at a time might be okay in the eyes of society in this universe. Slaughtering large groups of people is definitely not, especially in populated cities.

Blatant slaughter is not a joke.

After all, the system was created with one core desire. The desire to increase the strength of the intelligent races to face monsters. One of its core objectives is to prevent the slaughtering of large groups of people.

Whether that slaughter was done by monsters or not was none of their concern. Unless you’d reached the level of master, there’s no way to get away with blatant slaughter.

Last time at the Demon Slayers guild, Rin avoided triggering the restriction by killing less than eleven people.

Part of the reason that the top people the guilds only issued a bounty with a reward on Rin is this defense mechanism.

The guilds discovered the rules behind it as some people went out of control and slaughter too many people during a certain time period.

It’s an open secret among the high levels in the guilds that slaughtering more than ten people within a time period will trigger this deathtrap. As for what the specific time period is, none of them dared to test it.

Of course, they wouldn’t tell others about this. It can be used as a hidden card to deal with unstable elements, such as Rin who can be encouraged to blatantly kill people.

It’s also the reason that nobody powerful came after Rin.

Why should they sacrifice their rankers and elites to kill her when several weak people can do the job just as easily?

Unfortunately, Rin already knew of this restriction and most people weren’t stupid enough to throw away their lives for money. Rin only needed to release her mana pressure to scare away the majority of those interested in collecting the money from killing her.

That meant, as long as, she didn’t purposefully trigger it, their plan had no chance of working.

This time, Rin purposefully triggered it.

The best way to intimidate them is to destroy their main source of confidence. By showcasing that she wasn’t afraid of this restriction, Rin was basically stating that she could kill them all without consequences.

With that in mind, they wouldn’t dare to come after her easily. If they tried and failed to kill her, they would only be creating a powerful enemy.

Rin had Tobias to thank for the umbrella artifact that bypassed this restriction. While his umbrella was useless in most situations, mainly providing protection from magic targeting, it had an unexpected side-effect that allowed her to escape unscathed from deadly predicament.

Of course, Rin wouldn’t actually go and thank Tobias for it.

The last time Tobias learned that it allowed people to bypass the restriction on the number of people you can kill, he almost directly disposed of it and only after multiple persuasion attempts did he finally keep it. Despite keeping it, he completely refused to lend it to her anymore.

This kind of artifact with the ability to bypass the restrictions on slaughtering people definitely wasn’t made by a good person. She suspected whoever made it created it for a similar purpose.

Regardless of the reason it was made, the rare and unusual artifact’s usage allowed her to avoid this deadly danger.

Had someone unaware observed the scene, they would be surprised by how peaceful it looks.

A cute girl holding an umbrella surrounded by rain that sparkled with a bluish-hue, with her feet propped up on the bench. The girl stared into the rain with a hint of melancholy and a quiet sadness hidden in her eyes.

Nobody around observed the scene, though. They would’ve been killed by the rain before getting anywhere close.

Despite its peaceful appearance, this scene was extraordinarily deadly. Whether it was the girl or the rain, neither were things the average person should interact with.

A short time later, the pattering of rain stopped and darkness descended into the pyramid.

Rin could see perfectly fine, despite the low light.

As Rin waited for her sister to return, she heard a loud explosion in the distance. Rin's eyes narrowed and she glanced outside.

There shouldn’t have been any explosion at this time.

Stowing the umbrella and stepping outside to observe, Rin searched for the source of the explosion.

In the night sky, a flower of red light shone whilst falling overshadowing the stars and silent moon. Another explosion sounded as another flower of white light appeared, illuminating the dark sky.

A beautiful scene in the sky that Rin hadn’t been expecting… Rin wasn’t focused on the beauty of the scene.

Her thoughts were vastly different and instead worried.

What had she done that caused this change? Is it dangerous? Is Tobias in danger? Why did these explosions occur?

Those were the kinds of thoughts running through her head.

While Rin appreciated the beauty of the scene, many times beauty was also deadly.
