Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang*

Standing over two hundred meters away, Asher opened fire on what he perceived were the leaders among the fungus zombies.

Despite being nighttime, Asher's eyesight was as good as daytime, his amber eyes shining with a dangerous glint.

Perhaps due to his desire to survive, his pent-up anger at being prey in both worlds, the other party being monsters, the genetic enhancement altering his willingness to kill, or the desire to evolve, Asher, who preferred solving everything with peace, finally snapped.

Mixed with instinctive fear, he felt adrenaline and dopamine rush through his veins as he aimed and shot the monsters, his convenient outlet, a maniacal grin on his face.

"Haha, hahaha! HAHAHA!!!" Asher laughed like a madman, switching from single-round to automatic.

Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang*

Some of the shots hit the Leaders, while some only hit the surrounding Grunts, but they all hurt the monsters, and they were pissed!

"ROAR!" "ROAR!" "ROAR!" "ROAR!"

The monsters began to charge.

"That's it, come to daddy... Hehe..."

.

.

.

"Take down that damn human!" A balanced leader, whose greenish-grey chest was charred, roared in anger.

"Use shields! Don't let that damn laser hit you!" Another leader called.

"Bruisers! Pick up something for protection and charge! Protect your heads!" The meaty leader who got shot in the back ordered, rushing to a ruined car and tearing out a door as a shield.

The Black-Tier Bruisers listened to the order, picking up doors, large gravel, and even Drones as literal meat shields before charging like tanks, following the Leader's lead.

THUD* THUD* THUD* THUD* THUD* THUD* THUD* THUD* THUD* THUD* THUD* THUD*

Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang*

Their strategy worked, as some lasers hit the blocking mass, reducing the damage. The rest of the shots hit their lower limbs, causing two to fall due to a broken leg.

"ROAR! Your ours now!" The meaty Leader maliciously grinned, its sharp teeth that could bite through Kevlar and steel glinting under the moonlight.

There was no way for an unarmored Ascended to outrun them, and when they got close, the Ascended would certainly die!

But he didn't expect his prey, which kept shooting blindly, to vanish!

"AGAIN?! WHERE DID IT GO?!" The meaty leader roared angrily, momentarily losing track of the prey.

And then, he sensed something.

"On the building?!" The meaty leader looked at a tall building beside them. He saw the Ascended standing there, looking at them with a wide grin. It held something round in its hands, and then calmly pulled a pin.

Ting* Tak*

"Hah?" The meaty leader widened his eyes, subconsciously looking at an object that suddenly landed beside him. And then, his eyes widened in horror!

"GRENADE!" The leader roared, raising his shield while instinctively jumping back.

BOOM* PIII*

"ARGH!!!" "ROAR!" "GROWL!!"

Instead of a frag grenade, it was a flashbang, which blinded the monsters and damaged their inner ears, leading to tinnitus, deafness, and disorientation.

The leader was somewhat better than its lesser kin, shielding itself and being more resilient, but it was still dizzy. And then it sensed the Ascended disappeared again, reappearing-

"HES BEHIND ME?!" The leader widened its eyes in fear for the first time.

And these were also its last thoughts.

Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang* Bzt* Bang*

In just a moment, Asher shot over twenty laser rounds at the back of the leader's head, blasting open the skull and turning the brain into burnt mush, killing it instantly.

"Tough bastard. One down." Asher grinned in euphoria, like a hunter who had successfully hunted a worthy prey. And then, his eyes darted to the side.

Woosh*

An agile leader lunged faster than a cheetah, swiping its long claws at him.

"I've got you now, you little shit!" The agile leader gleefully thought, imagining the familiar sensation of its claws ripping through flesh and bone.

But what greeted it next was endless horror! It saw a black void opening before it, and without even the ability to dodge, it was swallowed whole inside.

It suddenly found itself in a lightless void, a square door behind it leading to the outside world.

"No... NO!!!" The agile leader mentally screamed, trying to turn itself around and swim to the exit.

But sadly, the door closed, leaving it inside the void. Soon, it froze in a timeless state, yet somehow, he could still think. But this dissonance caused its mind to collapse, and soon, the luster in its eyes vanished.

This novel was written by BigNT on Scribble Hub. If you see it anywhere else and paid for it, you were scammed.

The other five leaders, who saw the Ascended kill one of their equals and send another into an unknown black void, felt fear for the first time.

"W-What is that monster..." They began shuddering in fear.

It was the fear of the unknown. The roles reversed. The prey was the hunter. It was a terrifying predator that they couldn't comprehend. And then they saw the so-called Ascended Commoner in disguise smile at them.

They instinctively understood that smile. It was the malicious, euphoric smile of a hunter who successfully caught worthy prey. It was the thrill of the hunt.

"Two down... five to go. Hehe..." Asher grinned as he Spatially Swapped the burnt head of the meaty leader, collecting its red crystal before tauntingly waving it at the leaders.

"KILL HIM!!!" A balanced-build leader roared, half in anger, and half in fear.

The Grunts fearlessly obeyed their superior as they pounced on Asher, but caught nothing. Several seconds later, they saw him on another rooftop.

"How does he keep doing that?!"

"This isn't fair!"

The leaders roared in indignation. But only one thing answered their fruitless roars.

Clack* BOOM*

"GROAR!" "ARGH!!!"

A grenade landed right between two balanced leaders, exploding as it landed, incapacitating both of them.

"That's four down..." Asher narrowed his eyes on the rooftop, looking at the three remaining leaders while taking a tactical sniper rifle and crouching down. "Let's have some live practice."

BANG* TOO*

Asher shot a bullet at one of the agile leaders, but it dodged the bullet by moving its head slightly, as if it could guess the trajectory.

"Ho... dodging bullets? Matrix-level shit. But let's see you dodge this round." Asher grinned and shot a second round at the agile leader.

BANG* SPLAT*

"GROAR!"

The bullet hit right in the agile leader's eyes, exploding it. It wasn't because it didn't dodge or that Asher was that good of a shot, but because the bullet suddenly spatially swapped right before its eye.

And while it was surprised and in pain, Asher shot three more shots.

BANG* SPLAT* BANG* SPLAT* BANG* SPLAT*

Thud*

All three shots hit the same location, cracking the leader's skull open and piercing its brain, killing it.

The two healthy leaders looked at each other and made the wisest choice they could think of.

"ALL GRUNTS! ATTACK!"

They yelled as they dashed to the nearest sewer entrance.

"Oh, no you don't." Asher grinned as he took out two flashbangs, pulled out both pins, and spatially swapped them, right in their paths.

BANG* BANG*

"GROAR!"

"ARGH!!!"

Teleporting behind the meaty one, Asher made quick work of his with a salvo to the back of the head, and then teleported behind the other leader and did the same.

After collecting their crystals, his eyes darted to the two remaining leaders, who were trying to crawl away with one arm and leg and a tattered torso.

"Hoho... naughty kids. We are not done playing yet." Asher grinned like a cat who saw a mouse.

The next moment, he appeared next to one of them and emptied a magazine to amputate its limbs, and then did the same with the other.

"GROAR! ROARR!!!" The two monsters screamed in pain and fear.

Even without understanding their words, Asher knew what they meant.

"GO AWAY, YOU MONSTER!"

Or at least something along that line.

And there was a reason why he kept them alive. He noticed that they could command the lesser ones, the ones with Black crystals. And what would a scared boss who is about to die do?

He would order everyone under him to defend him and take him to safety.

Taking out a new laser rifle, Asher switched it to automatic as he saw the grunts rushing over.

"Hehehe... As ol' Elmer used to say, it's wabbit season."

.

.

.

By sunrise, Asher had shot and killed all the monsters with black diamonds and over a thousand zombies.

"Hah... That was surprisingly refreshing! I had so much anger in me, and I finally got a nice outlet!" Asher grinned from ear to ear while surrounded by corpses, picking up his loot.

He didn't bother with the slow-moving zombie crystals since he didn't feel any attraction to them. However, the black diamonds and red diamonds were very tempting. Especially the red ones, which made his salivate.

And finally, after cleaning the field, he turned to the two survivors, the helpless leaders without limbs.

"Ho... You guys are tenacious bastards, aren't you?" Asher mused, noticing that the bleeding had long stopped, and there were even signs of regeneration. Perhaps in several days, they would have a new set of limbs.

"Groar... Roar..." The two leaders shook, for the first time, cursing their strong vitality. They noticed a curious and sadistic glint in Asher's eyes, like a cat looking at an interesting toy.

And sure enough, he was.

He took out a fire axe in one hand and a sledgehammer in the other.

"Let's test how tough those skulls of yours are, yeah?"

"GROAR!!!"

BAM* BAM* BAM* BAM* BAM* BAM* BAM* BAM* BAM* BAM* BAM* BAM* BAM* BAM* BAM*
