He leaped to his feet and pointed at her with a furious expression. "What are you saying, woman? Jing He is perfect in every way there is! Have you even seen him? He’s such a beauty! And he has such a good character too!
"Let me open your eyes for you, you stupid thing: Jing He looks like he’s been crafted by the Heavens themselves! He isn’t tall for a man but still taller than a woman. He’s slender with graceful charm. Even hugging his slim waist is a pleasure most people are unworthy of! Every limb of his is formed as if it was made to embody the word perfection. His skin is smooth and soft. Seeing that noble, creamy complexion of his, you can’t help but want to touch him. And his face … Ah …" Qiu Ling sighed.
"How could you express its loveliness with simple words? His eyes are as dark as the moonless night sky. Looking into them is like looking into the deepest abyss, but one you are willing to fall into. No, not just willing!" He lifted a hand to reject such a silly idea. "You long to leap into it. You know that doing so will be the best decision you’ll ever make in your life because you’ll find absolute bliss at the bottom of that abyss." Qiu Ling closed his own eyes and remembered that gaze he loved so much. "The way he is looking at you … Ah, it’s so peaceful. You feel your heart warming up and a gentle breeze caressing your soul when his gaze touches you."
Hong Bao seemed like she wanted to inject something but Qiu Ling lifted his hand and smothered her protests. "Ah, that’s by far not everything! Saying it like this you might imagine that you’ll get this impression only from his eyes. But that’s far from true! You know, there are also his eyebrows.
"You might ask yourself what could be so good about eyebrows but you’re wrong if you assume eyebrows couldn’t be special! Eyebrows like Jing He’s are just too beautiful to be true! They’re formed in a graceful, slender arc that directs your gaze from that exquisite forehead of his to his gorgeous eyes. Ah, seeing the outer corner disappear below his magnificent hair, your fingers will itch to trace their course!
"And let me tell you, little goddess! You can’t claim to have lived if you have never seen his hair! Ah …" Speaking about his beloved’s hair, Qiu Ling’s mood lifted to an unprecedented high. His eyes had a special shine to them and his lips unconsciously lifted upwards, making his own face even more breathtaking and Hong Bao stare at him as a result.
"His hair … the words to describe it elude me. I could tell you how soft it looks and how much softer it feels when you touch it but you wouldn’t understand anyway and I certainly wouldn’t let you go and touch it! Wearing the finest silk every day can’t compare to the pleasure of being able to touch a strand of Jing He’s hair even once. Although … running fingers through them is addicting. Just doing it once would probably leave you with regret if you can’t do it again."
Ah, yes, he himself regretted a lot right now! He wanted to hug him, one arm holding that waist he had praised and the other stroking these glossy strands. Mn, he certainly wouldn’t mind leaning in for a lingering kiss either.
Qiu Ling’s gaze grew absentminded while he thought about that. "Mn, mn. That hair of his … Those lips …" He just muttered on, not thinking about what he said.
But by now, Hong Bao was totally engrossed in listening to Qiu Ling. She still paid close attention even though he seemed to have lost the thread. Ah, this man had to be deeply in love to praise the crown prince like that! What a good guy!
Qiu Ling finally emerged from his thoughts. Seeing that he finally had an audience willing to listen to his praises about his beloved, he continued with newfound vigor.
"His lips, indeed, ah, they are just like the rest of him: They have that perfect form so that it always seems like he is slightly smiling. And that supple curve of his lower lip … isn’t it just an invitation to kiss him? I feel like the Heavens knew he should be mine, so they made him perfect to make me unable to resist him. Ah, they definitely wanted us to be together!"
"How romantic!"
Qiu Ling nodded earnestly. "It is, it is. But you shouldn’t say that now. I haven’t even started describing his character. Though, it doesn’t make any difference. I could tell you how gentle and refined Jing He is, how beloved by everyone but you wouldn’t understand as long as you don’t experience it yourself. You’d need to hear his soothing voice and be hugged by him when you’re feeling depressed. Only then would you be able to acknowledge what a splendid personality he has."
"Mn." Hong Bao nodded but she couldn’t help but think: Love really makes blind! He actually praised a bad person like the crown prince so much. "There is just one thing I don’t understand: If the crown prince is so perfect and already your lover, then why did he kiss somebody else?"
Her question struck a nerve and Qiu Ling’s eyes teared up. "What do you know? Isn’t that all because of this damned trial they asked him to pass in the mortal realm? My poor beloved is suffering so much! I can’t watch it. And now they’re even trying to break us apart!"
Yes, Qiu Ling had found his explanation for the whole mess. And somehow, he had even found someone willing to believe his nonsense.
i forgot to mention that the most annoying thing in the story is hong bao's character. there should actually be a limit to someone's stupidity?
I think Hong Bao is universally the most hated character in this series
this is really getting annoying. what's wrong with the king's character? shouldn't he find information about the god's trial as much as possible so he won't do something wrong? it's his lover who's undergoing the trial after all. now that i think about it, why did he not ask jing he about the trial? why did jing he not explain the importance of the trial and the general things that would happen in the trial like what would he face, ect? even if jing he didn't tell him all that, i believe it would be easy for qiu ling to acquire the information him self. he is a king after all. wouldn't know all the infirmation first before acting is the basic character a king should have? even more so this is concerning his lover. and what's about all the unnecessary stupidity for? why would he start getting drunk in a tea shop in the day time in front of his "beloved" and "future parents in law"? couldn't he go to some other place? what's with the sudden strange friendship with hong bao of all people? i understand that he act this way because he is crazily in love with the crown prince. but couldn't you make him appear a bit smarter? it's all cute and fun at first but it turns annoying fast for me. and i hate it so much because i like how this story goes at first. i loved the plot so much that i'm torn between want to continue reading or stop because of the character. and don't forget about the fates scriber. how could he divulge such an important information to a servant for a mere promise not to tell anyone? i feel like the only smart person in the story is jing he/jing yi's mothers ? i'm sorry for the long rant. if you don't like it please just ignore me. lastly, i want to say that it's because i like the story that it annoys me how things turn out. if i don't like the story, it wouldn't bother me at all.
Uh ... give me a while to respond to this
So first of all, thanks for telling me your opinion! Hearing what my readers think always helps a lot with making my stories better.
Now, I'd really love to explain the points you've raised but I'm afraid that I would spoil future events because this has to do with the past of Qiu Ling and Jing He which we don't know much about yet but it will play a major role in the upcoming volumes. I'll still try to address the issues without spoiling but read this at your own risk. I'll mention which volume will go into detail on these issues so maybe that'll help you decide whether you'd like to read on or not.
- Jing He wouldn't raise any issue about himself without being prompted to. This has to do with the way he lived in the Nine Heavens (which will be shown in volume 4 and the prequel at length). Thus he only states the fact that he has to go on that trial without talking about his worries and what exactly will happen.
- Qiu Ling is quite the unconventional king. For example, you don't normally see him interact with any of his advisers as long as it doesn't concern Jing He/Jing Yi. Actually, he isn't much of a conventional person in any case and his two major concerns in life are (1) marrying Jing He and (2) keeping Jing He safe. (The reason for that will be shown in the second half of volume 2).
Anyway, since Qiu Ling doesn't see the trial as something that might endanger Jing He's life (After all, he's accompanying him and who could keep his beloved safer than he himself?), he doesn't ask much about the trial and just sees it as a nuisance that has to be completed.
- About Qiu Ling in the teahouse: Well, he's depressed so he's doing stupid things. I don't have an excuse for that That he strikes up a 'friendship' with Hong Bao is because first of all, he's still drunk, and second, he feels like there's someone who finally understands him.
Before that, he mostly had contact with Jing He and some limited contact with either his advisers or his mother-in-law (Bai Fen). Jing He was someone he couldn't tell his worries to because he was still freaking out over making a good impression, his advisers treat him as their king and think he's weird so there's not much to talk with them about either. And Bai Fen, even though she's on Qiu Ling's side regarding his relationship with Jing He, has a difficult status as Jing He's mother.
So finding someone equally weird who is just as crazy about the person they love makes Qiu Ling feel like he just found a soulmate. At least for now.
- As for Qiu Ling being stupid … Well, I'm not sure if you can really say that. Sure, he has a single-track mind most of the time and doesn't consider much more than Jing He. He is also a little (a lot?) unworldly. There is honestly no way for me to explain this without putting massive spoilers in here so I won't even attempt that. Maybe I should just mention that despite this being his default state right now, he will show some other parts of his personalities soon. In fact, you'll see the first hints of that in chapter 135.
- Shun Tao telling Hong Bao certainly wasn't the smartest move but after telling her a lot about his problems already and seeing that she was about to make things even worse, he felt that if he told her how serious the issue was, she would understand that it was something that couldn't be told to others. He was actually sure that with the additional information, she wouldn't talk about it while she would if he didn't tell her. Well, he was too naive in believing that.
- Yes, Jing He's and Jing Yi's mothers are two of the most sensible people in this story There are some others though but that might need a bit more time to show.
I hope that helps you to decide whether you'd like to read on or not. If there's anything else you'd like to know, just tell me
Thank you for the chapter.
Thank you for reading!
she is entirely stupid yet she can't see the of a man willing to do anything for the one he loved how she is going to help the fate god is beyond me espeasaly when he practicaly just told you that he is the one who has been chanjing jing he/yi s fate
Can't argue with that. Hong Bao usually never thinks before doing stuff
