Shen Lei smiled at Mei Chao Bing’s expression, not feeling that he had done anything wrong. In any case, he was pretty sure that that was precisely what Yun Bei Fen was doing. After all, he had seen that child grow up and the little bunny had always been wondering about what that senior martial brother Mei of his was doing or not doing or where he went.

Nothing should’ve changed about that in just the few weeks that he had spent in the border region. In fact, considering that he had turned from a simple admirer to a fiance, Shen Lei was pretty sure that things might have become even more extreme.

Still, he also realized that maybe this teasing was going a bit far. Thus, he turned to Elder Baili and raised his brows. "So, we write the report, and then what? Should we go back to the caves?"

In general, this was probably the right thing to do. After all, there were still a lot of things that needed to be investigated. But after this matter, it might not be a good idea to leave here. After all, something like this had happened with the younger disciples. Maybe having somebody of a higher level around to make sure that they would be safe would be better.

Baili Chao also pondered that question. "There are still quite a few disciples here that are at least in the early core formation stage. It should be enough to keep them safe. Yang Wu Huang was really the only problem here. I will make sure to split the disciples into different groups to prevent something like this from happening again." To be honest, save for that one group, he wasn’t worried about the others. They were working together quite well and nobody had any bad intentions as far as he could tell. So there really shouldn’t be any problems.

The most difficult question to answer was probably whether he should only send Yang Wu Huang back or do the same with Ao Jing and Di Huan Bo. Technically, these two hadn’t been in charge. Pretty much like Yuan Lei hadn’t been. So while they could give their opinion, they weren’t the ones making any decision so it could probably be said that it wouldn’t be right to send them back.

But still, they had been working together with Yang Wu Huang on this. That much was clear. And while Ao Jing had mostly held back, at least Di Huan Bo had argued in his favor several times. Sending him back probably would be alright.

"Well, Elder Xing is already back in the camp by now. I will talk it over with him and then tell you. For now, stay here for a bit. In any case, since the disciples of the Zhen Yan Sect need to report as well, there should be some time until the investigation over there continues. Having four people less shouldn’t be as much of a problem."

Shen Lei nodded and then got up. "Then I guess I’ll go and take a look around the camp. There wasn’t much time before." He glanced at Mei Chao Bing and then gave a short wave before he went outside. He couldn’t help but complain while he did so. "Ah, I wish I could be like a certain someone and have my lover here as well. Unfortunately, nobody is going to send for him."

Baili Chao gave his back a look and waited for the door to close behind him before he turned to Mei Chao Bing. "Is Fen’er really alright?"

Mei Chao Bing nodded. "He wasn’t hit at that time and I think he probably didn’t mind that much since he didn’t have high expectations for Yang Wu Huang anyway. This was just to be expected. Also, nothing really happened to them. So I guess he’s just happy to be back."

Baili Chao nodded but couldn’t help but think that Shen Lei had probably been right: Rather than being happy that he was back, his little disciple was probably just happy that he had Mei Chao Bing back. That was just the way he thought.

The Elder continued to stay quiet for a moment before he gave Mei Chao Bing a complicated look. "You were lucky this time. If not for the others being around, that could have ended differently."

Mei Chao Bing smiled faintly. "I won’t keep it from Elder Baili but if the others hadn’t been there, I would’ve done it differently."

Baili Chao raised his brows but finally nodded. "Well, you wouldn’t have gotten this far if you weren’t smart. In any case, you should still be a bit careful in the future. Even if I send Yang Wu Huang back, there’s a certain chance that he will still try and do something. And there will still be the demonic practitioners around. We don’t know how all of this will end. You have to be especially careful."

Mei Chao Bing nodded. "Thank you for the reminder, Elder Baili."

Baili Chao just gave a hum and waved. "Well, don’t mention it. Now, I guess you want to go and spend a bit more time with Fen’er now. I also need to talk things over with Elder Xing. Don’t forget to write your report though!"

Mei Chao Bing nodded, got up, and cupped his fists before leaving the room. He stood in front of the door for a moment, heaving a sigh. This whole matter … it was true that it could have ended differently. He wasn’t worried about himself though. He was just worried about Yun Bei Fen.

Being with him … it always brought trouble to Yun Bei Fen. He really didn’t want that for his little bunny but he also wasn’t willing to let go of him. This was the one good thing he had left in his life. Things might be looking like they were turning around a little but honestly, he wouldn’t mind losing everything else as long as Yun Bei Fen was there. In this life, he was his only ray of light.
