Mei Chao Bing had no trouble describing what he had observed to the four guardians. Anyway, this was something that he had worried about quite a lot in the past few weeks. Of course, he had paid attention to all the details that he could notice. Thus, the account he could give was pretty detailed.

The more he listened, the more thoughtful Tong Chen’s expression became. Only learning through repeating the action many times, but somehow intuitively grasping it when he wasn’t paying attention … that sounded like somebody he knew. In fact, it sounded a lot like how he had learned when he was younger.

He hadn’t even shared this with the others but at that time, he had perceived how things were supposed to be in his mind. It had been a kind of … feeling. If he didn’t focus on what he was doing and instead followed the intuition he was slowly cultivating, then he was able to do things without even the smallest error.

The first thing that had allowed him to do was to gain a perfect form when performing his sword arts. His Master had been stunned silly when he noticed it for the first time because watching this blind child that he had originally been reluctant to even take in go through a set of motions was like looking at a textbook.

To be honest, it hadn’t all been effortless. It required a certain understanding. After all, intuition wasn’t born from nothing but from prior experience. If Yun Bei Fen actually had the same or at least a very similar ability to him, that would explain why he needed some time of practice to exhibit this behavior.

Maybe because he was young and not necessarily able to understand well in the beginning, he would need more time than him to figure out what exactly was right. Even if he subconsciously grasped it already, he needed to repeat it more. Only when the subconscious feeling was able to come to the forefront — because his consciousness was occupied with something else — would he be able to instinctively do it right.

The other three guardians gave Tong Chen a curious look. Even though they didn’t know the details, they still knew some general information about his ability and how he had come to develop it. Not to mention that they had seen him train in their youth. Thus, they at least realized that there was a certain similarity between Tong Chen’s ability and Yun Bei Fen’s.

Tong Chen finally gave hum. “This matter, I can’t say for sure but to be honest, it does sound a lot like my own ability.” He turned to Yun Bei Fen and stepped closer, using his spiritual sense to get a better grasp of him.

To be honest, he hadn’t paid all that much attention to Yun Bei Fen before. Compared to the other disciples in the courtyard, his level was pretty low. Appearances were deceptive among cultivators so even with the little that Yun Bei Fen had spoken before, he couldn’t judge his age. Thus, he couldn’t say if the low level was because Yun Bei Fen wasn’t that talented or if was really talented. He should still be quite young though if he was Luo Lin’s junior martial brother so that pointed toward the latter. Either way, he had no idea what to think of this youth.

In the end, Tong Chen tilted his head. If he wanted to know, he’d have to be direct about this. “How old are you this year?”

Yun Bei Fen pondered for a moment and then raised his hands, counting for a moment. “It should be twenty years.”

Tong Chen nodded, feeling that, in that case, it wasn’t too bad. “Then, how are your skills in general?”

Yun Bei Fen thought for a moment and finally shook his head. “Not that good. But just a few weeks ago, when we came to the border region, senior martial brother Mei taught me how to fly on a sword!”

If Tong Chen hadn’t been blind, he would’ve stared at him dumbfounded by now. As it was, he still fell silent, needing a moment to digest that information. He still felt like he needed to make sure he had heard right though. “You only just learned how to use a flying sword?” That didn’t seem normal.

Elder Baili facepalmed at the side and then rushed over, not wanting to seem like he wasn’t able to teach his disciples in front of the four guardians. “Black warrior, please let me explain this one!”

Tong Chen turned toward him, waiting for him to go ahead.

Baili Chao heaved a sigh of relief and then hurriedly recounted how he had picked Yun Bei Fen up when he was about five years old, brought him to the sect, and then had a lot of trouble teaching him how to take in spiritual energy at first. “We were stuck at that point for quite a long time. After he finally got it, that was what he focused on because it seemed difficult to teach him anything new for the time being.

“I figured he might have an easier time after he gets further in his cultivation. But as a result, when he was fifteen years old, he decided to enter closed-door cultivation, not coming out until five years later. So in the end, he really didn’t learn much in terms of skills.”

Tong Chen nodded, feeling that this made sense. “Well, his level seems more than alright for his age and also very stable. In that regard, no mistakes were made. Although I guess for the border region, it is still somewhat lacking.”

At that, Mei Chao Bing couldn’t help but glance at blue butterfly and then at the black warrior. Originally, he hadn’t been sure if he could bring it up but since they were already talking about Yun Bei Fen now, he might as well give it a try.

He only hesitated for a moment longer before he cupped his fists again and bowed. “Senior, I have a preposterous request. I don’t know if you would be willing to hear it?”

Tong Chen couldn’t even begin to guess what he was thinking of so he just nodded. “Please, go ahead. In the current situation, we should do whatever he can.”

Mei Chao Bing heaved a sigh of relief. “In that case, I would like to ask the guardians to teach Fen’er.”
