Mei Chao Bing nodded again and then sighed deeply. “Alright, then I will go to the Sect Master first, have him prepare everything so the disciples here can help you prepare, and then go to check the documents. About the magical tool to take on my Master …”

The conversation had derailed completely after he originally brought this up to the point where even Mei Chao Bing had almost forgotten about this. When he was about to leave though, it reminded him of how he had previously brought it up so he couldn’t help but try to make sure again.

Yan Hong Min hadn’t mentioned anything and had instead seemed quite disturbed that he would even ask so Mei Chao Bing didn’t think that his chances were very high. Still, he wanted to give it a try at least. Otherwise, he didn’t think that he had any chance against his Master.

Yan Hong Min scratched his head. He had also forgotten about this but now that Mei Chao Bing mentioned it again … “Well, you also know that my level isn’t that high.”

Mei Chao Bing nodded but he couldn’t help but feel odd. That hadn’t sounded like a straightforward no.

Yan Hong Min still looked troubled. “So … when I create something that’s of a higher level, I can’t really test it out myself. I sometimes get my first senior martial brother to do it but if I only have enough materials to make one device, I naturally can’t do that. After all, having a working one is important for the process of making it better afterward.”

Mei Chao Bing lowered his head and thought for a moment before he looked up again. “What you want to say is: You have a high-level magical tool lying around but nobody has tried it out so far so you can’t actually be sure how strong it is.”

Yan Hong Min hesitated for a moment but finally nodded. “Yeah, that’s exactly it. So … it could be that it’s as strong as I expect but it might also be less strong or maybe not work at all. It could be that it’s even stronger than I hoped for though. There’s really no way of saying.” He shrugged his shoulders. Anyway, he really couldn’t tell Mei Chao Bing anything more than this. He simply didn’t have the answer.

Mei Chao Bing hesitated as well. His own strength wouldn’t be enough so a strong magical tool would be the best chance he could get at defeating his Master after all. But what Yan Hong Min was offering him … it was a double-edged sword. It might allow him to take out his Master, yes, but it might as well only make him angry or even fail to work at all. If the latter was the case, that was basically asking to get himself killed. This kind of risk … could he take it?

If he lost his life while also killing his Master, he wouldn’t hesitate to do it. It wasn’t that he wanted to die. He simply … realized that there had always been such a risk after he became a disciple in a cultivation sect. Life as a cultivator was like that.

The problem was that this wasn’t the choice he was faced with right now. No, right now, it was either that this device would work and allow him a better chance to kill his Master or that it wouldn’t which would lose him valuable time and lower his already slim chances further. Was that truly worth it?

He closed his eyes, trying to look at this from all perspectives: He had only managed to take Qu Yijun out because he surprised him and used up not only all of his own strength but also all the offensive tools he had possessed and saved up over the years.

There was nothing left to deal with his Master so if they met, there was no chance to do anything. His strength wasn’t enough. This device might be able to change that if it worked as Yan Hong Min had intended. It was a big if though.

Mei Chao Bing opened his eyes and looked at Yan Hong Min with a complicated gaze. “If the device were to work out exactly as you intended, how strong an opponent could it kill?”

Yan Hong Min pursed his lips. “Kill? Probably somebody in the late nascent soul stage. That would be a one-hit kill though. If we are talking about injuring gravely, it should work up to the middle of the demigod stage.”

“That strong …” Mei Chao Bing furrowed his brows.

They didn’t know his Master’s level but he had been nurtured by two different sects, neither of which was weak. The resources they provided were definitely top-notch, especially if the person in question was a key player. And Feng Bai Xiao … he had always been one of those.

In his generation, he had always been the first among the disciples of the four great righteous sects when inter-sect competitions were being held. He had been one of the youngest disciples to advance to each of the cultivation stages and the youngest Elder the Teng Yong Sect had ever seen. Not only that but he had not only been given the title but even a position with actual power. Just how much the Teng Yong Sect had valued him was obvious at a glance.

Without knowing that he had likely been a spy at that stage already, these feats were impressive. They were slightly less so when you thought about the fact that he had received twice the amount of opportunities that other disciples had gotten but then, the Wu Yun Sect wouldn’t have invested in him if his prospects hadn’t been excellent.

That kind of person … judging by the stages the other Elders had reached by now, it wouldn’t be strange for him to indeed be in the demigod stage already. In that case, how much of a choice did he have?

Neither he nor any of the other disciples of the Teng Yong Sect would be able to deal with him. This invention of Yan Hong Min’s … it at least gave them a chance, no matter how small it was. If it didn’t work out and he lost his life, well, at least he had given his best and tried.
