The other two guardians were collected fast but Mei Chao Bing didn’t explain immediately. Instead, the five of them made their way over to the border region together and stepped into Elder Baili’s courtyard first.

When they arrived, they couldn’t help but feel worried when they noticed the obvious tension. The four guardians exchanged glances while Mei Chao Bing directly caught Yun Bei Fen who came running and then turned to look at Zhi Guan and Elder Baili questioningly.

Elder Baili could only sigh and motioned for his oldest disciple to explain.

Zhi Guan gave a hum and then turned to Mei Chao Bing. “We talked this afternoon while you were out and have come up with a plan that might need your help.”

Mei Chao Bing raised his brows but nodded. “Of course.” No matter what it was, he would do it.

In his arms, Yun Bei Fen pursed his lips, still afraid of what would happen if Mei Chao Bing did this.

Mei Chao Bing lowered his head to look at him, realizing that this plan was likely dangerous and not the regular kind of dangerous but the kind where he might likely lose his life. Still, he wouldn’t hesitate. He turned back to Zhi Guan, taking a deep breath. “Just tell me what exactly you want to do. No matter what, I will do it.”

Zhi Guan nodded and repeated what they had come up with. Having finished that, he also turned to blue butterfly to tell her about his worries regarding her safety if it was true that the other side had managed to cultivate abilities and there were also people like him around.

Blue butterfly nodded even though she didn’t look that worried. While her ability to use her dreamscape might be an important tool in her arsenal, it was only one of many. She was still a decent cultivator and had even practiced using a sword with Tong Chen every now and then. She couldn’t contend with a master like him but for a regular cultivator, it was more than enough. Thus, even if they managed to catch her in her dreamscape, she wasn’t afraid.

While she was able to simply brush Zhi Guan’s words off, Mei Chao Bing wasn’t able to do the same. Of course, he was willing to do his part. Going to the demonic sects’ headquarters pretending not to have a choice but to join them … he could do that. He simply didn’t know what to do when he saw his Master.

He agonized over that encounter but then shook his head. Anyway, he’d cross that bridge when he got there. For now, there were more important things.

He pulled out the spiritual bag that Yan Hong Min had given him, handing it to Elder Baili. “These are some tools your second disciple made that could help us. I can give you more details later on. There is one more important thing though.” He pulled out the magical box and explained its use. “I’m not sure what kind of energy to use. I was thinking of natural forces like the ocean but I have this feeling that it’s not right. I can’t think of anything better though.”

Everyone looked at the small box in his hands but nobody had an idea either. Anyway, they had just come to know of this while he had had hours to think it through and still hadn’t been able to figure it out. It wasn’t too strange that they’d draw a blank.

Blue butterfly shook herself, feeling like they were at an impasse with that. Rather than thinking of this and that without coming to any conclusion, she felt like it was better to deal with other things first that they could solve. “Well, other than that, didn’t you say you needed white jade for something?”

White jade raised his brows and turned to Mei Chao Bing. Nobody had mentioned this to him before and he couldn’t help but wonder what was up. Often enough, he felt like the most useless one among the four guardians because his role was only needed in an active fight. In the case of this impending war … well, there really was no use for him.

Mei Chao Bing nodded. “I have a question about the founding of the four great righteous sects. Sect Master Zhang mentioned that the people of your sect might know more and I figured that this might be true for you even more so.”

White jade stared at him in a daze. “The founding of the sects? I do know a few things about that. What do you want to know though?”

Mei Chao Bing gave a hum, still not sure how to explain this. “I figured that if there is a connection between the cultivation technique and the abilities, it might be because the founders of the sects themselves had abilities. I tried looking through the documents at our sect but there simply wasn’t enough time and I’m afraid not much has been passed down either.

“Sect Master Zhang mentioned though that the sects were supposed to be gates that kept some kind of power from overtaking our whole continent. That seems to have been the express purpose of founding them in the first place. And that person is apparently still trapped somewhere on the continent by virtue of the continued existence of our sects. You wouldn’t happen to know anything more about the history of the sects than that, would you?”

White jade slowly raised his brows. The founding of the sects? He indeed knew something about that. In fact, Mei Chao Bing probably couldn’t have asked anyone else who would know better. After all, their Li Ren Sect specialized in formations and so had their founder. “That formation was originally created by our founder so … what exactly do you want to know? I might just be able to answer it.”

Mei Chao Bing didn’t know how to react when he finally seemed to have a breakthrough. It almost seemed as if everything was finally about to come together.
