The Enemy Of My Enemy

Sowa, Central District, Botswana

The car at full speed, nothing in sight except the car I drive, the view of the salt plain is so strange that it seems as if I were on another planet and not on Earth. I had to get out of here and try to find the supposed man known as Trigon, apparently the author of all the mess produced and origin of so much suffering to the inhabitants of this place. But even though Major Zero was probably telling me the truth because he left me a copy of the data backing up his story, I still didn't believe it, it seemed strange to me that he had bothered to make the trip and go through so much trouble just to help my mother, but if there was one thing I recognized it was how effective he could be, the guy just came in, spilled all the information, refused to elaborate any further and left without leaving any problems, Stella could learn a little from him.

A phone began to ring, surprised by the suddenness of the sound I looked for its origin, because it was not mine, instead in the glove compartment of the car I found another old abandoned phone, a disposable one, it seemed that it was barely useful, one difficult to trace, one that a spy would use. I answered the call thinking that maybe Major Zero was the one who had left the phone to contact me later.

"Well, at least you have the guts to answer the phone after what you've done."
"You've really got the balls to answer the phone after all that's happened."
"Tell me you are able to sleep after coming to a foreign country just to exterminate its population?" A mysterious voice sounded on the other end of the phone, that of a man who sounded annoyed.

"????"
"I'm sorry but I think you have the wrong phone number" I answered automatically.

"You're one of them, aren't you?"
"One of the mercenaries who are killing us!" Said the man on the other end of the phone even more furiously.

"Oh! So yes,  you have the right phone number"
"That's me."
"Are you here to ask for an order?"
"The basic rate is on our website, right now we have a promotion, if you invite a friend I'll give you a 2 for 1."

"......"
"Are you kidding me?"

"Isn't that what we are doing?"
"What else are you calling for then?"

"A person, a white man with no hair left me this number."
"He indicated to me that it belonged to one of the hired killers that Masisi hired."

I figured he was referring to Major Zero, who seemed to have really worked hard to give me several possible options. Which probably meant that the man I was calling must have been moderately important.

"Yes, I'm one of them, I was in the group but I work independently."
"He just hired a lot of people separately for one thing."

"Well, my name then I am sure you have heard, I am Moremi Khama, Former Presidential Candidate of the BDP party.
Or as you would surely understand, the leader of the rebels."

"????"
"Okay, this is awkward."
"I really don't know how to respond when an enemy calls me first."
"So what's it gonna be? You come to file a complaint or something?"

"I will never understand why people like you accept such immoral jobs as being mercenaries." said the man on the call really pissed off.

"Well, people have to live on something after all."
"Although I feel that's rather hypocritical coming from you Mr. Khama."
"Seeing as you've decided to take up arms and rise up against the government in a civil war."
"Kidnapping a child, even if it was your rival's child, that's still pretty low, isn't it?"

"And you think I don't feel annoyed at myself for having to go to such lengths?"
"My grandfather fought all his life to make this country a strong diplomacy."
"My family continued his work to serve our countrymen and have a better life for all of us."
"I was supposed to take office through a fair election, not a rebellion."
"And yet I have no other choice because Masisi's tyranny will not let anyone else gain power."
"I am doing it because there is no other choice, but I even promised that when everything calms down, fair elections will come back as soon as possible".
"It is a duty I have to the people of Botswana"

"I still don't see the point of this, what the fuck are you calling me for?
"Right now I'm literally on my way out of the country, if you just wait two days I'll be out of here."
"A problem that solves itself

"......."
"What I want is for you to do a job."

"Oh, boy, oh, boy."
"So you try to complain and in the end, you're just the same as your enemy"

"The white man said you were different from the others, to change sides if you were offered something."
"I have money, well not money exactly."
"A bag of diamonds, fresh from the mine."
"A gift from a supporter of our cause."

"Okay, I'm listening."

"You know where Mokgweetsi Masisi is."
"I want you to kidnap him and bring him to me."

"????"
"Masasi?"
"The guy right now is probably being held by his no longer so friendly Mabena."

"You don't understand, but a couple of our friends in Zimbabwe have informed us about the movements of the other mercenaries who came with you."
"Apparently the mercenaries are planning to rescue Masasi and help him escape."
"As far as I know where he is being held is very close to the US embassy so they will try to take him there, where Mabena will not be able to touch him."

On the one hand he said he loved me because maybe only I knew where Masasi was, but now he has just revealed to me that he really does know where he is, maybe he overlooked it or didn't realize it, but I think he is hiding information from me on purpose. On the other hand, if Fenrir was planning to ransom his employer, no doubt it would be for very good money, would it be his son who is somehow paying the ransom?

"So you want me to somehow manage to kidnap Masasi back after he breaks into the U.S. Embassy?!"
"What do you think I am? Superman?"
"That's a lot of trouble, a lot of enemies, a lot of weapons."
"No matter what the payoff if the plan doesn't succeed."
"Besides Masasi still owes me money after I helped him rescue his son from your friends in Chobe."

"If Masasi escapes all of Botswana will suffer the consequences!"
"We cannot allow him to make a pact with the United States!"

"......"
"And does it necessarily have to be a kidnapping?"
"There are other easier ways"
"Killing someone is much easier, more likely to succeed."
"And since I'm going to lose the payment from my previous job I'd also like to be compensated."
"Since the bag of diamonds, I guess it cost a lot of money to get it, I will give you a discount."
"Information"
"From what I know, you guys are not like you have the best budget or equipment."
"I know someone is helping you, another foreigner, someone from the United States as well."
"Trigon is helping you guys, right? I want to know where he is."
"I know he is near a mine, I want to know where he is"

"Do you know Trigon?"
"Why do you want to find him?"

He knows him! so maybe he is real and not just a complete fabrication to make me look like an idiot!

"Trigon is a bastard who has been trying to harm my family, so I want to return the favor."
"You can call it a personal problem this time."
"You tell me where he is, and he disappears."
"How about that?"

"You foreigners and your problems"
"Is the world too small for your ego fights?"
"Why does my country have to suffer because of another nation's problem?"

"Says the hypocrite talking about what foreigners do, when you get weapons and help from foreigners too."
"Look the job is like this, you pay me, you tell me which mine Trigon is in."
"And in return, you don't have to worry about Masasi, with him gone you win the civil war, the mercenaries leave and he and the last loose end, Trigon, the foreigner also disappears."
"You will have a free hand in less than a week to do whatever you want with the Botswana government, and your only concern will be Zimbabwe."
"Which I imagine you'll end up helping the Wings of the Musvingo to change the government as well so you can finally be at peace and go back to only having to worry about elephant poachers like in the old days."

"........"
"........"
"Ok, I'll pass you the address later, I'll leave a car with the pay near the mine."

"I don't want a car, I want my pay"
"I want my bag of diamonds near the Zimbabwe border, in a tree, with no one around."
"Once the pay is done I'll get Masasi and Trigon."

"And how do I know that you don't run away with just the money without doing anything?"

"And how do I know that you won't set me up when I complete the job?"

"........"
"Ok, I'll leave half of the diamonds in a bag in a tree, like you wanted."
"The other half will be in a bag near the mine."
"You will not see any people near them, neither rebels nor civilians."
"As a sign of goodwill from the people of Botswana."

"All right, that's fine."

With a new temporary agreement I set off again to Harare to try to finish this mess I ended up in. To be honest, I still had my doubts as to whether I would be paid in the end, seeing as Moremi Khama was someone who would not commit himself to a single possibility, it was also very possible that he would not try to pay me or worse, inform Trigon that I would go after him next, throwing my whole plan into ruin, but if he saw any value in betraying me he would not hesitate. but after finding out about the first part of my payment, it was a little easier to motivate a little me to do my part of the deal. With all this trouble I remembered how much I hated all this and why I wanted to leave it behind, so if all goes well this will be it, because if I can get those diamonds for sure have a car shop and a rally team will be much easier, maybe too much.
