Wangye, this concubine is busy!

Chapter 1 - Ambushed

In the wilderness, Si Liujing tried hard to endure the pain from the slash wounds on his body.  With one hand pressed over the deep wound on his abdomen while his other hand gripped the handle of a sword, he staggered on the rugged mountain road.

As the blood from his wounds flowed, the blood from the sword in his hand dripped intermittently all along the way.

He was not only injured but was also poisoned.  His pair of beautiful eyes had lost the usual sharpness and brightness and his vision was a layer of black.  At this damn moment of escape, he was blinded.

Three days after leaving the imperial city, he encountered an ambush.  To ensure his death, the other party dispatched more than a hundred assassins to intercept and kill him while he only brought along thirty guards with him.

In the attack, the guards beside him desperately tried to protect him as he fought out of the heavy encirclement.   All the brave guards who were skilled in fighting blocked off the assassins.  However, they could not withstand the tactical siege of the enemy’s sea of people and eventually became exhausted.  As they were outnumbered, they began to retreat in defeat.

Si Liujing knew there must be a traitor beside him.  He was ordered to leave the imperial city in secret to visit a hermit on behalf of the Emperor.  They had kept their whereabouts hidden, avoided the official paths, avoided staying in government dwellings, avoided contacting the local government and kept a low profile.  Unexpectedly, they encountered an ambush.

His body had large and small slash wounds and the deepest wounds were on his left arm and abdomen.  Fortunately, he had already sealed several acupuncture points on his body to stop the poison from spreading.  However, he still had to find a place to hide so that he could circulate his internal qi to self-heal.

This time he was too careless and if he can go back alive, he will make sure the other party repays this debt.

Due to his sightless eyes, he suddenly stumbled when he stepped on some loose soil and rocks and as a result, he fell down the hillside, rolling several times before coming to a stop.

Even when he rolled down the hill, he did not let go of his sword.  Enduring the pain from his wounds, he stuck the blade of the sword in the ground to support his body as he stood up.  While he was fleeing, he was unable to obliterate his footprints along the way due to his blindness.  Those assassins would definitely follow his tracks to catch up with him.  When they finally get to him, it would be difficult for him to fight back alone and it is afraid the result would only be his death.

Thinking up to here, his whole body suddenly stiffened.  Holding the blood-stained sword in his hand, he exuded a killing intent as he turned his body to face the movement coming towards him.

“Who is there?”

Although he was unable to see, his ears were sharp and with his whole body soaked in blood, he looked like a trapped beast that refused to accept defeat.

Even if he dies, he wants someone to accompany him in death!

“You’re badly hurt.  You must treat your wounds quickly.”  It was a woman’s voice and her tone was neither high nor low.  It sounded pleasant to the ears and as she spoke, she was moving towards him.

Si Liujing listened to the sound to discern the person and immediately raised his sword to point at her.  The sharp blade was precisely aimed at the other party’s nose.

Bai Yuxiao looked at the blade that was only a short distance from her nose and if this is not handled well, her nose would be gone.  She cautiously kept a distance, cleared her throat, and kindly explained to him.

“I.......”

“Get lost!”

She had only said a word and she was unceremoniously interrupted by him.  Actually, she wanted to tell him that she was here to save him and tell him not to be afraid.  However, he did not even listen and his body exuded an aura of death with a warning that no living person should come near him.  Otherwise, if she were to take a step closer, her blood would splatter and she would die on the spot.

Bai Yuxiao did not say anything and tactfully retreated far away.

Si Liujing listened carefully and although the sound of the other person’s footsteps was in the distance, he still held on tightly to the handle of the sword with a murderous aura.

The present him does not believe in anyone and also he is poisoned and blind which caused him to be always on guard.  As long as someone approaches, he would be like a beast gone crazy.

At this moment, not even a guard is with him, so there is no other way but to rely on himself.  Therefore, he used his sword as a crutch to drag his injured body and walked forward step by step.

He did not know which direction he was going and could only carry on walking blindly.  The mountain road was rugged and all along the way, he fell countless times.  Bai Yuxiao who was secretly following behind him felt her body hurt every time he fell.  Each time he fell, she would feel the pain once.

“Be careful!  There are thorns in front.  This time, if you fall again, you’ll become a hedgehog.”  She reminded from behind him.

Si Liujing immediately pointed the sword to the back and exuded a devil-like murderous aura again.

This woman has not left yet!

“Are you following me?”  His voice sounded grim and bloodthirsty.

But Bu Yuxiao was not afraid of him and she said angrily.  “If I don’t follow you, how can I clean up the blood trail on the road?  Do you want those who attacked you to find it?  And also, wolves roam in this valley at night.  Your whole body is covered with the fishy smell of blood which easily attracts the wolves.  By that time, even if you’re not killed by your enemies, you’ll be swallowed by the wolves!”

Si Liujing did not believe this woman.  It was because he was afraid that she was deliberately deceiving him to make him lower his guard.  Once he lets down his guard, she would seize the opportunity to kill him.

Martial arts practitioners are capable of tracking the sounds of strangers with their sensitive ears.  Since this woman had followed him for several hours without making a sound, it could be deduced she is also a martial artist and he must be cautious.

“Who are you?  What is your name?!”

“My.........you can just call me Shui’er.  Let me help you.  By the looks of it, you must be poisoned.”

However, even if Bai Yuxiao wanted to help him, she did not dare to step forward.  Presently, he has an extremely ferocious look of wanting to kill someone and for the time being, she could not get close to him, so she could only try to persuade him first.

Si Liujing ignored her and continued to move forward, knowing that the woman was still following him.

He walked for several hours and throughout the entire time, he could hear the woman blabbering and the contents were nothing more than giving him directions and guidance.

“There are vines in front, don’t get entangled.......be careful where you step!  Ai, didn’t I tell you?  Look, you fell again.......there’s a poisonous snake!  Don’t worry, I killed it.  Don’t go over there!  There’s a beehive!  Be careful of being stung into a bun-head........”

At first, Si Liujing would tell her to shut up or suddenly swing his sword at her, forcing her to stay away from him but it was useless.  The woman made it clear that she was going to follow him and completely ignored his warnings.  At the same time, she would say whatever she wanted.

“Hey, are you thirsty?  I have some water here, take it.  There is a gourd near your right foot.

(The gourd mentioned here is a plant that is dried and hollowed out to keep drinking water.  Gourds were commonly used as water bottles during ancient times especially when traveling.)

When he heard, Si Liujing kicked the gourd away fiercely, refusing to accept her kindness but she was not angry and continued to talk to herself.........

“Fortunately, I have the foresight.  I was afraid that you’ll kick it away, so I put a fruit shell there instead.  The gourd is still in my hand.  Since you don’t want to drink, I’ll drink.”  After speaking, the sounds of gurgling water could be heard.

Si Liujing was actually very thirsty and his mouth was dry.  When he heard the sounds of water, it became even more unbearable for him but even if he died of thirst, he could not take the risk.  Who knows, the water might be poisoned.

He snorted coldly.  Even if he did not eat or drink for three days, it was nothing to him.  He had once fought in the Northwest and the environment was even more sinister than now.  So what’s the big deal with the present situation?

He used his hand to touch a big tree nearby then used his sword to cut the bark and drank the sap that flowed out.  Although the sap tasted sour and unpleasant, it was better than nothing.

There was another murmur behind him.  “That is a Rosseau tree and the sap is tart and sour.  You can even drink that?”

Si Liujing suddenly swung the sword and slashed behind him but he struck nothing except air.

“Wa, that’s scary!  Fortunately, I was quick to dodge!  Alright, I won’t say anything.  If you want to drink, just carry on.  If my eyes don’t see, it’s considered as clean.”  The voice came from far away.  It seemed that in just a few moments,  she had distanced herself ten zhang* away which showed her excellent qinggong skills.

(Zhang is a measurement of distance and one zhang is equal to 3.3 meters.)

Si Liujing snorted coldly and drank the sap to quench his thirst.  After drinking, he continued to walk on.
