Jack walked in. "Hey. You want to see my character sheet? And talk, I guess?" He asked, standing there awkwardly until she waved him to the seat.
"That's right. I also want to talk to you about your impressions of the whole situation, and your duties going forwards." Miria replied.
"Fair enough. Here's my character sheet. Did you have anything in mind for me for duties? Or should I just keep on as I have been, helping Maxim in the workshop and taking people around to help them grind some essence?" Jack said, sharing his character sheet.
Miria looked it over. "I think we saw your 'Spirit of Endurance' ability on the servitor - I got a dialog for it, after I put the egg in Claire."
Jack nodded. "Yeah I'm not entirely sure what to make of it. I need to be burning two different resources besides MP to really make use of it... And I don't want to be burning health, which leaves FP and CP. I can burn FP easy enough, but CP is spent mainly on 'thinking hard', which is usually not done at the same time I'm burning FP..."
"Hmm. I see what you mean. But it looks like you have lots of FP, and can go pretty far negative in it too if you need too. So, you can burn FP pretty freely, and then just use Spirit of Endurance to top of any other resource expenditure... Damn, humans are pretty strong actually. HP is kinda low though. Wonder if you can get a dodge skill? Burning FP to avoid getting hit sounds like a really good deal. Or maybe you can wear really heavy armor...?" Miria pursed her lips.
"Armor would be a longer term thing, but I could go for a dodge skill. Maybe see if I can get one tomorrow?" Jack said, shrugging.
Miria grinned. "Hell yeah, lets do it. I'll help you, it'll be great."
Jack raised his eyebrows. "Uh oh. Am I in trouble?"
Joey walked in and took a seat nervously. "Uh, hello Miss."
Miria waved her hand dismissively. "You can just call me Miria, I'm not a stickler for formality. So how're you managing? Everything alright?"
Joey sighed. "I'm fine. I'm a little worried about my mom - she was back at the Grocery. Was human, I told her to keep her head down after I saw Grace and Joshua get killed. Wish I'd thought to try and rescue her during our breakout, but I didn't even think of it. Just went along with everyone else..."
Miria grit her teeth. "Shit, I hadn't even considered that. Ugh, okay. I'll see if I can put together a rescue mission, maybe? Or something..." She sighed. "Well, we'll figure it out. For now, can I see your character sheet?"
Miria cocked her head after she read it over. "Huh. Has the mentality been affecting you? You don't really seem like it..."
Joey shrugged. "I dunno, a little? I was pretty far from that before, so. On the whole it's balanced me out a little, I used to be super indecisive, now I'm only a little indecisive..."
"Hah! Okay, well, glad to hear it, I guess. I'll talk to Claire about the mental effects, see if she has any insights? I think she might, hard to be sure." She chewed on her lip for a moment. "For now, good work leveling up your fire magic. Keep working with Sarah and Claire to develop it further, talk to Jack to get essence... I might take you essence grinding too sometimes, we'll see. Do you know about skills?" She asked him.
He shook his head. "No Ma'am."
She nodded. "They're like abilities, you can earn them with practice... Actually, hold on." She said, and sent the system a mental query.
"I have a couple. Maybe talk to Claire about her Meditation skill, it seems pretty good for mages?" She said, showing him the dialogs for the skills she'd seen, including Claire's Meditation skill. "She's the one with actual practical experience with it, though. Any other questions you have for me?"
He swallowed nervously and dithered for a moment. "Uh, well, I saw your ability can take, uh 'Intrinsic Quintessences'? Does that, like, hurt the donor...?" He blurted out, and she laughed softly.
"No, it certainly doesn't hurt... But like, you know what it means by 'Direct Insemination'?" She said, and he nodded, face burning. "So, yeah, I'm pretty sure you're like, sixteen, right?" She asked, and he nodded again.
"Yeah... That a problem? There's nobody to enforce any laws on us, right? And you make the rules around here anyway." He said uncertainly.
Miria laughed again softly. "Well, pretty sure we're supposed to all make the rules together... I see your point though. And I'm, like, twenty-three, so maybe I shouldn't make too much of a fuss about it. I dunno though, I'd like to take some time to think it over? Hell, you should take that time too."
He sighed. "Yeah, okay, fair enough."

Please ret-con that to at least 18, if you're going to go that route
Something about the way you've written this makes me wonder if you're aware that you've given jack (and all humans for that matter) berserker powers.
Like, charge in there, split spirit of endurance between hp and sp, and wreck sh*t without fear of exhaustion or injury - at least untill mana runs out.
Like, to my eyes this is the most obvious way to use this ability.
@Greyperson That is one way to human in setting, yeah! The main downside there is the limited burn rate - you only can spend 1 mana per second by default, and a serious berserkering will easily exceed that. That can be fixed with effort, but it requires passing up other things. It's also vulnerable to strategies to try and outlast the berserker, which is the other big thing you can do with spirit of endurance, and the more common strategy among humans. Hence, human berserkering would be a viable strategy, but a niche one, IMO. The more common strategy would be 'endurance warrior' - that is, trying to outlast the opponent and exhaust their resources before they exhaust yours.
@DrStrangeLover I dunno, given that hp regens per week and mp regens per day it seems like a pretty good trade
@Greyperson Oh, sure, but if someone is hitting you for 30 to 40 damage every few seconds, then the 1 per second regen in battle doesn't matter that much. It does mean you can be confident in recovering quickly after the battle, assuming the total damage isn't too much, but that would still leave you accumulating wounds, and possibly permanent injuries or at least nasty scars. Which might be appropriate for a berserker, I suppose... :P
