Final Fantasy VIII had a particular portion of the game where the characters Squall and Rinoa would be locked up in an advanced and abandoned spaceship drifting around in space.

The ship was overtaken by a strange alien race called the Propagator. The strange beast had a similar form to the vine-based Berserker. But the cruel and crazy Calamitus fused the two into one!

In Final Fantasy VIII, Rinoa and Squall had to kill these Propagators in a certain order. There were eight Propagators, two of which had the same color. The players must kill the creatures of the same color in order. Fighting and killing another Propagator of another color would resurrect the first one.

So unless the players fought and killed the Propagators of the same color, the rest would simply resurrect.

The Propagators weren’t scary bosses in themselves and were relatively easy. But now, the fusion of these two game mechanics to one of the hardest early bosses in Legaia made it a horrifying challenge for Dyne and his team.

Dyne knew that Chad and Jaden would be out for the rest of the battle and would even be in critical condition as the rot could spread and kill them!

“Master Dyne! What are those things?” Meta asked. She was confused as she had never seen such a strange creature.

“It looks like the Entropy Rogue Seru, the Berserker! But something has changed!” Terra added.

“It is the Berserker. But now, it fused with another creature! We can’t win this now. We have to get out of here!”

The group kept themselves shielded from the reflected magic. But the Berserker Propagator slowly moved along.

Dyne could see the group form a circle.

“Is it Stone Circle? But these Berserkers are serus about entropy... They should be capable of creating earth magic... Then it must be a dangerous Entropy attack! But...! This should still be reflected!” Dyne observed. Dyne recalled that Berserker had a powerful attack known as Stone Circle. Several pillars of stone would appear and cast powerful earth magic that could kill unprepared or under-leveled characters in the game. If the attack was entropy, it would only make it worse.

“Master Dyne! What do we do? There are eight of them?

“We keep using this shield and improve it! The magic of Reflect should be something beyond Fate’s estimation!” Dyne answered confidently.

Suddenly, the Berserker Propagators began to cry out, and a strange power was summoned from the ground below!

“What the? The Earth answered them?! So it’s still Earth Magic?!” Dyne cursed.

“Master Dyne? Can we reflect it?”

“No! Our current defense can easily reflect magic from the intangible side of the Elemental Wheel! Light, fire, lightning, wind, entropy, darkness, and water! But from Ice to Brimstone, it would break this shield! We have to flee! This isn’t a fight we can win. A single Berserker should be strong enough to challenge Zeto! The next attack could kill us all. I think Fate determines to kill many of you. Especially the ones not of Legaia.”

“Then we will stay here and fight honorably! Please escape, master Dyne!” Amorien shouted.

“No. We all leave together. I won’t leave anyone behind.”

Suddenly, a strange power began to emerge. A tall stone wall appeared that resonated with energy. It wasn’t just several pillars. It was a tall, insurmountable wall that stopped everyone.

While most Serus and monsters were locked out, the eight Berserker Propagators were inside it.

“Oh. So that’s how they plan to make me unable to escape a boss fight.” Dyne was amazed at the power of the Earth.

The massive wall began to glow, and powerful earth energy was being forced out. The mountains trembled, and everyone suddenly got nervous.

“Is this it?” Gala asked.

“No. Look. Master Dyne isn’t scared! He has a way out of this. We can still teleport!” Vahn explained.

“Um... No. We can’t teleport, Vahn.” Dyne pointed to the ground as he released Jaden and Shiva’s arms and dispelled the entire pyramid shield.

A strange gravitational pull was happening around them.

Vahn felt a strange weight over him.

“Earth Magic that heightens gravity. It’s creating a conflict in the time-space powers of Jedo. We can’t teleport that easily.”

Vahn was stunned.

“So... are you... giving up?”

“Of course not! I’ve always anticipated something like this and already have a plan B. This should be everyone's lesson. Not everything will go as planned. So always have a plan B! Everyone! Huddle closer together! All slimes combine and form one massive platform and form on top of Godhand! Everyone else, jump up on the slimes!” Dyne lectured the powers as he stabbed Grim and stuck the Wild Arm on the ground right before the Zenoir.

Dyne took a strange flute that Bertugo and Brod had stolen and poured his Spirit into it.

A strange call was heard, and the familiar Spikefish monster was suddenly within the walls and was floating up high.

“Spikefish Flute?” Jedo was confused. Spikefish Flute was an item in Legaia that allowed the user to summon the Spikefish monster. This monster would blow up and create a blinding light which would allow the players to run away from a battle.

“What can that do?” Jedo asked. But Dyne ignored him and concentrated.

“What I’m about to do, is what you would call a Pro-Gamer move...” Dyne chuckled.

“Godhand... In my command... Release all you have to send us flying upwards!” Dyne ordered.

A spikefish monster was now floating overhead and was about to explode.

The Earth attack of the Berserker Propagator began as the Stone Circle shot out a tremendous power, and Dyne suddenly channeled the power of Brimstone and directed it to Grim and the Wild Arm. The power of the Monster Hive’s Brimstone was also unleashed.

“NOW!”

BOOM!

A massive explosion erupted ahead, and another explosion was coming from the incoming earth-crushing attack.

Godhand threw itself up as it curled into a fist and performed its vertical hammer.

The enraged Berserker Propagator began to shoot various Spore Gas and Poison Gas attacks. But the explosion of the Spikefish Flute blinded them, and these attacks missed.

The explosion that occurred under it pushed Godhand all the more. It would have hurt him, but as Godhand was a seru close to being Brimstone, it managed to resist the attack.

Dyne had jumped up ahead when he caused the Brimstone power of his Dragon King Cut to explode out and hoped on the slime platform.

“Slimes! Charge down the mountain immediately!” Dyne shouted as he took out another Spikefish Flute and summoned another Spikefish.

Godhand had tossed the slime platform, and the group began to fall into another horde of monsters beyond the wall.

CRASH!

The Slimes resisted the impact and immediately charged ahead without even pausing.

“Runaway! And don’t look back!” Dyne ordered as he led the team to keep running downhill.

BOOM!

Another Spikefish exploded and created blinding light. And as this item was loyal to the game, it allowed the team to flee easily.

CRASH! PUNCH!

The group charged ahead, striking and killing the monsters they could kill.

Bertugo and Brod performed another steal on another set of Spikefish monsters and acquired two more Spikefish flutes to the ones they had been gathering previously.

“We’re... alive?!” Gala was amazed.

“I told you...” Vahn smiled. But Vahn was still shaking as he said this. He also thought they were dead.

“In case we would be overwhelmed in this battle, I already had plans to push ahead! That’s why we gathered these Spikefish flutes! With these babies, we can keep running away from our enemies!”

“What are we going to do now? We can’t fight those enemies!”

“We can. We just have to prepare. But for now, let’s head up north. There’s a town that managed to keep safe from this Apocalypse. But this very self-centered town may cause us to fight. But besides that, we will take a trip to Octam first!” Dyne declared.

“Octam? Isn’t that the next town? But what if we face more creatures there?”

“That’s why we have to act fast! And luckily, we have moving slime and chocobos that don’t get tired. You see, Fate will have to prepare for our trials. I bet right now. It's scrambling to make strange things happen around this place to send monsters to chase us. But we’re too ahead! The odds are, Fate can’t catch up!” Dyne chuckled.

“Why Octam?” Meta asked.

“We need to get another Seru. And then, I’ll have to convert another set of Serus, including the Swordies and Nightos...”

“What Seru lies in Octam?” Vahn asked.

“The mass-healing Seru, the Orb.”
