Looking around I saw nothing but pure black, a raging darkness. Nevertheless, it was calming as I floated around weightless in this void. Without senses I was left alone to my thoughts in a blissful sort of zen.

“Thomas!”

Jerking awake I turned right on my bed to see my so called mother.

“Thomas how many times have I told you! Set an alarm, you’ll never grow into an adult at this rate. “

“What.”

It was all a dream, but it felt so real, reality tasted so bitter. Especially after the tranquility I just experienced.

“Don’t what me young man, now get up before I call your father.”

I flinched when I heard the phrase young man pass her lips. For whatever reason she felt a killer instinct to gender me at every moments notice. Usually when she did it irritated me for some unknown reason, but I would let it slide. Although this morning I was in a particularly bad mood.

“Why don’t you fuck off.”

Her mouth flew agape leaving me with a smirk. I stared into her beady black eyes, how could she ever replace my real mom. More importantly how could Dad forget my mom so easily after her passing.

“That’s it! I’m getting your father right this instant!”

She stomped out of the room to which I slammed the door in response. Getting changed was always quite the process, my body is disgusting. I opted for a makeshift blindfold so I didn’t have to see my grossness.

When I walked downstairs my Dad and mother replacement were already there.

“We need to talk right now. I won’t let you treat your mother that way this needs to stop.”

I snorted, some idiot my dad is, suddenly acting like he knew what was happening. In actuality he grew distant after dating Karen aka mom replacement. Now he knew nothing about my schooling senior year nor cared.

“What does it matter it’s not like you value me anymore, just Karen.”

“She is your mother you should call her that. And your mother deserves an apology don’t you think?”

Wow he just totally disregarded my feelings of abandonment. “Get real”, I chuckled.

“Now listen here Thomas”, he said in a silent rage violently grabbing my arm. “You are doing to apologize right now or regret it”.

It was my turn now to be shocked, my Dad had never threatened me physically before.

A tear slid down my cheek as I started shaking out of fear.

“Wow, what a pathetic sight, can’t deal with your action’s consequences huh?” Karen chimed in a little too cheerily I might add.

“Wait no Thomas I’m sorry I-“

Ripping my arm away before Dad could finish I rushed through the front door.

I ran like my life depended on it because in a way it did. Today was a school day but my friend Trevor almost always skips. I could probably lay low at his house for a couple days then find another place to stay.

“I hope he’s home if not I don’t know what I’ll do”, I panted out loud.

Realizing I was in the opposite direction of Trevor’s house I started to cross the sidewalk. Just then I heard the screeching of tires accompanied by loud honks. A truck was barrelling down the street easily over the speed limit to my left. I had time to time evade this speeding hunk of metal but stood frozen. A tremendous crunching sound echoed in my head. Left in a pool of my own blood I slowly succumbed to the pain.
