Magic. A dream pursued by many in their childhood years. Sadly it remains just that...a dream...Or so it would seem. There are records of supernatural beings wielding magnificent powers in all corners of the world. Often times the description of these beings are strikingly similar. Take for example the titan serpents, as I have opteded to call them, creatures present in almost all cultures across the globe. Jörmungandr, the world-eating snake, from the barbarian Norse, Quetzalcoatl, the feathered serpent of the native Indians, The oriental dragons of the east, leviathan from Jewish myth and finally Aido Hweido of African belief. Each of these depicts a serpent, or serpent-like beast,  of massive proportions. Naturally, there are more, too much to count but I have listed these few to be brief. Of course, dragons are merely the most well known of these supernatural beings.

Countless tales of gods and of demons; of mystical weapons and legendary figures are ushered down through the ages, many lost to time. Often times as I noted before the similarities between said beings are too close to be dismissed. How is it possible that people in entirely different regions of the globe conjure up beings with such a strong resemblance to each other? Perhaps one or two might have been a coincidence but Ten? Twenty? Hundreds? Coincidence can only happen so much.

But what if these records are more than just myth but perhaps exaggerated tales of things incomprehensible to those recording them?  What if they were actual records of REAL entities that existed and not some fable? and if so could it be probable that I too could wield such authority?... An audacious thought but one worth considering.

Excerpts from the journal of 'The Grand Scholar' Merlyn Wyllt.

_______________________________________________

In the depths of the forest, in a burrow under a tree, lay an azure coloured snake, it's eyes closed. This, of course, was Azra, unaware of the confusion he just caused. Contrary to appearances he was not sleeping but instead going through a host of information that had had gradually filled his head. Celest's work he assumed. After sorting through this new knowledge Azra came to a conclusion....this world...was terrifying...  From the terrifying beasts that made a home of the forest...to the beings who could split seas and level mountains.

And speaking of forests wasn't he in one right now...

*phoo*

Deep breaths, deep breaths.

If that was all then it might have still been manageable...but nooo...

As Celest said, he was weak, pitifully so. It was to the point of him just being slightly stronger than an average beast. And even that wasn't enough, it would seem that his draconic bloodline was well in demand by the beasts of the forest. His blood acted as a tonic that could boost their strength..so he was alone, weak and an active target to anything he came across...

Azra: (ಥ﹏ಥ)

Outside was scary, surely he didn't have to leave his comfy little burrow. Right? RIGHT?!!

That notion was soon cast aside when he felt a searing pain from the very midsts of his being like his very essence was being twisted and stretched into an unnatural shape.

"Ce.Cel..est.. what.. is ha..happe..ning to me?" He managed to squeeze out through gritted teeth.

[The pain you are experiencing is a result of soul adjustment. You are not a being from this world and due to this your soul must acclimate to its laws and principles.]

"How do I stop it?" He once again forced out.

[The quickest method] the system replied [would be to absorb the origin from a native creature.]

Subsequent to a few moments of writhing around in agony the pain soon faded but he had a feeling that it would return.

His body still trembling, he reluctantly left the burrow in search of manageable prey.

Apart from the knowledge, he got from Celest he found himself obtaining the fragmented memories of the previous owner of the body. That is to say the little snake...er, slithern. Of course, little was a relative term here on Earth a 5ft long snake wasn't considered large but it couldn't have been thought of as small either. From what he gathered the body he currently inhabited was that of a newborn. The young of earth's longest snake, the reticulated python, was only 2ft which meant he was currently 2 1/2 times largest(Made him think of how large an adult would be). Still, this wasn't earth and compared to other creatures out there he was tiny.

?

From amidst the cover of shrubs, Azra assessed his quarry. It was a terrifying beast. A single deer-like horn sprouted from the middle of its head, pointing to the skies above as though in rebellion. A pair of devilish, piercing red eyes sent shivers down his spine. A pair of fangs protruded from each corner of its mouth threatening to maim anything foolish enough to offend the creature. It's fluffy white fur gave it an air of elegance which was further complemented by its lithe movements and cottony tail.

"A magnificent creature." Azra mused in awe.

After a moment of hesitation, he struck. Coiling himself like a spring he thrust himself forward. The creature attempted to flee(or retaliate) but too late. Rows of knife-like teeth dug into its neck. It struggled, biting and clawing but to no avail, it's assailants scales were too strong. Its eyes dulling, its body slumped down devoid of life. Its fur once white, was now dyed scarlet.

"A worthy opponent." declared Azra adopting the pose of a master (as masterful as a snake could look anyway, which wasn't much, to be honest). His head raised towards the sky as though he had defeated the greatest being ever to be birthed. He glanced at the "monster" laying at his feet...or tail... torso..whatever he didn't know how this worked. The funny thing was that regardless of who saw the so-called "monster" all they would see was a rabbit, albeit one with fangs and a horn, it was a rabbit nonetheless. This was the third of such beasts he managed to hunt, a feat possible no doubt due to the residual memories of his predecessor, a fact he realised when he left the burrow.

His body just headed in this direction when he thought of hunting as though he'd done it a thousand times. As he pieced together the fragmented memories he discovered that the burrow he now stayed in was the same place his forerunner once called home. It would seem that these memories had a subconscious influence on his own mind.

*shiver*

The thought sent a shiver down his spine.

Could the previous consciousness of the body suddenly return?

If so what would happen to him?

He pushed these thoughts to the back of his mind. Tossing the dead rabbit into his inventory he headed to his burrow. He wasn't sure that the how the remnants of his host body would affect him but for now they assisted him in adapting to this new world.

Hey! What up my dudes? Hope yall good. So I got a question. I want to bracket and italicise the dialogue of certain entities later on but that might cause some issues since I'm already doing that for Celest and a few system prompts. Any suggestions?

Also, leave a comment ?. Your comments give me motivation! Who knows maybe ill release an extra chapter if I see let's say 10 comments ?‍♀️
