I'm thinking about doing a rewrite, I feel like I have written myself in a corner and I could do the story better. Its going to be the same MC and the same history but I’m going to rebuild the story a bit differently, I want to explain certain places and describe the magic system better. I also want to increase the mythological element as well as fleshing out the characters more. I have many ideas and plans ready to go and to be honest I hit a bit of a writing block lately concerning the original.

Honestly if you want to rewrite and feel like you can do it better. Even if we tell you should keep it this way if you as the writer dont like you're own story than why write it in the first place. We cant tell you what to do with you're story we can only try to help and give ideas. Although I really love the original I can say that in my memory the chapters have been getting shorter and less... like you put you're heart into it? I dont know but what I want to say is if it helps you to write more comfortable than do it. But if you do please leave the old version and mark it as discontinued and maybe tell people in the synopsis that there is a rewritten version.

you could have him get a student, that way you can explain the worlds history and how magic works without having to rely on things like flashbacks
If a rewrite will help you continue the story you should do it
I’d say splitting and writhing both would be the easiest to make mistakes with
I don't really care. Do the rewrite if you feel you must.
If you feel a rewrite is best, do the rewrite. I say this simply because I’d you aren’t happy with the current story, you won’t want to write it anymore. I personally don’t have any real issues with this version, but if you want a rewrite, do a rewrite.
