I never took my life seriously.

Did okay in school because i had to,

Went to college because i had to,

But i always assumed 

I would be homeless,

Selling oranges and tube socks

To fellas in business suits. 

Don’t know why i had this vision,

But it seemed more real 

Than anything else. 

Life isn’t complicated,

But it can be hard

Even for someone like me

Who grew-up in the suburbs

And is fairly light on melanin.

The rent is due soon,

I can pay, but it’s getting harder

And harder especially 

Without Janice. She was 

Someone who took me

Too seriously.
