Chapter 0007
Athena came to a conclusion. Forget the whole situation about the original body.
Yeah yeah, almost all the books she read about reincarnation, the one taking over the body take vengeance for the original body some way or another. He or she kills the people who bullies the original body, cultivate-slash-grow into power and show the whole world their awesome abilities while attracting rich and powerful friends/protectors/spouses (depending on the gender of the main character or if it is a harem novel).
Athena scoff at such obvious tropes.
While it is intriguing to follow the main character power up while avenging any grievous route, it doesn’t fit with Athena’s style.
After living with that family back on Earth, Athena is done taking care of family. Other people’s problem, who cares! It has nothing to do with Athena. As long is it doesn’t affect Athena or touch her bottom line, Athena couldn’t care less.
To anyone thinking, this body gave you a second chance to live, shouldn’t you do something to for the original owner, Athena’s answer is simple: the original is body dead; she gave nothing to Athena. In fact, it was Athena who did all the work! It was Athena who defied fate and fought to be reborn in this new body. Nobody gave her anything. If the original body was smart, she wouldn’t end up dead and Athena wouldn’t be here.
Stupidity kills.
Athena isn’t stupid.
As a reincarnator, Athena is glad with the current situation. Asalia is an orphan. There is no need for Athena to pretend to be somebody else or scheme for a better life.
This is a rant Athena has held inside herself for a long time. To all the reincarnators, living or fiction, seriously, wtf! How the hell do someone just reincarnated, understand the situations as well as the norms and values of the current system and work it enough to benefit them. So what if they get the original body’s memories. Somethings shouldn’t be explained with gaining knowledge of someone else’s memories.
If it was like that, then back on Earth, Athena should be calm, elegant, eloquence with a sharp with and an engaging personality. She read enough books. Isn’t that like living someone else’s life. After all, having someone else’s memories isn’t exactly the same as living through their experiences. Or maybe watching movies is a better example. The viewer gains the knowledge without the painful experience. Isn’t the same thing as inheriting the original body memories?
And manners.
Let’s not forget manners and etiquette. There a reason why heirs to the aristocrat families back in the dark ages were drilled in deportment, manners and etiquette. Ladies, before they made their debut, had governesses train them in table manners, court etiquette and dancing.
Back then, everyone socialized and dance. Dancing is a must.
Athena stared at her two left feet.
Is there enough medieval movies showcasing the actors dancing gracefully for Athena to obtain a swan like grace. She can dance the waltz without stepping on people’s toes. Like that girl in Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen.
Slowly Athena phantom mime the waltz she imagines in her head. She was held by a dashing hero as he swept her on to the dance floor and off her feet.
Ouch!
Athena grabbed her aching shin, hopping on one leg and yelling at the top of her lungs, “Where did that desk come from?”
Bang, bang, bang.
Down a little girl fell.
“What the hell, I was a mile away from that bookshelf.”
Plop, plop, plop.
Stupid books!
“Huh?”
Athena read the title of each book closely. Introduction to common professions, Beginner’s Art of Weapon Refinement, Beginner’s Art of Talisman Making, Beginner’s Art of Arrays, Beginner’s Art of Alchemy, Beginner’s Art of …..
“Golly gosh, this ring is a newbie beginner collector’s edition starting kit.” Athena pondered, “This was made for me. Starting background information, starting crafting material, starting introductory guide and world information. No wonder Asalia believed Dugu Shi Xiao loved her. He prepared everything she needed when she awakens her Immortal Potential.”
Athena sighed, “Fate is a bitch.”
I completely with the idea that just inheriting the memories doesn't really mean anything. Almost all the stories I've read with inheriting someone's memories. The Main character will always act as is the person is still alive since they have their memories. It also is a bit annoying how they will always get a revenge boner for something that didn't even happen to them. I could understand if it's just the MC finding someone's personality obnoxious and is wanting to mess with them.
or if the memories properly integrated, so the mc actually felt like it happened to them, rather then being some mass of memories the mc can dig into whenever
And they all know how to create riffle and black-powder, steam-machine motor, and other old-tech to make a kick-start and gain big money. Survival stuff, fighting art, history sh1t incredibly complexe and other like that "just the kind needed for the slape-face the badies" of the previous bodie (armor plot and deus-ex-machina for easy and cheap author, we are there ).
That, or other silly trope like that who come from nowhere. Like the guy/girl where training themself for transmigrate for years just "why not ?". So yeah, great to see a author who DON'T use them for once
Still think he loves her, but maybe not in the future
I wonder how the MC's were so sure that the original died and their soul was no longer in the body
Yea I already hate this mc what an ungrateful bit*h not only a body and second life but also food material and knowledge and you become and ungrateful bit*h she deserves to die or have the original owner of the body absorb her soul and for Athena to never exist again really hate people like they are the reason the world sucks and why we can't have nice things
The viewer gains the knowledge without the painful experience. Isn’t the same thing as inheriting the original body memories
It's not. TRUST ME, it's not. Knowledge and experience are separate terms for a reason. You watch, read about, and be told about something as many times as you want, but you'll never truly understand until it happens to you. Or at least, until something similar happens to you.
Is there enough medieval movies showcasing the actors dancing gracefully for Athena to obtain a swan like grace.
Hahahahaha, no. Nope. Anything regarding actual motions is even worse. Some people can learn movements just by watching, but most wouldn't be able to replicate it without extensive practice. All that gives you is knowledge of the end goal, but since you can't see yourself from outside without a mirror, half the time you won't even know if you've done it right.
The thing about inheriting memories is that it's usually done one of two ways. First is that it's like a video that the protagonist can view whenever. Which would be the one that fits your arguments, seeing as it's basically the same as if you watched an actual video. You just have some smells and stuff mixed in.
The second type is the one with real advantages. Where, rather than just knowing what happened, you can tell what was going on, why they acted the way they did, their emotions and motivations, all that stuff. All that helps cement the memory as an experience rather than just knowledge.
I think it's probably easiest explained with a scary moment. If you encounter something the original would be scared of, MCs with type A would just go, "Oh, the original was scared of this, weren't they?"
Whereas MCs with type B would feel genuine terror, or at least a strong aversion, even if they wouldn't have before.
Anyway, as with anything else on the internet, that's an opinion. Thanks for listening to my TED talk, and I bid you adieu.
