Chapter 10— Spells

"Huh? Maybe now ..."

It had been a long time since the storehouse was built in the back of our house by an amateur who piled up bricks.

One day, suddenly, without any warning, my magic made progress.

Since I was a kid (although I'm still a kid), I've been learning and using magic on my own.

Apparently, only earth magic is used systematically, but there are more variations.

Unlike when I was just messing around with the fields in the back of my house, I've been helping to take care of the fields that make wheat, which is collected as a tax these days.

It seems that all of my ancestors have desperately dug up the earth and have grown the fields for generations.

However, the shape of the field was greatly distorted by the effort.

If this was in my previous life, it would be difficult for machines such as tractors to enter, and there were mosaic-like fields with curved shapes.

 The beauty isn't enough here.

I don't think I should care about the details, but I couldn't forgive the shape of this field.

So I started using magic to level the fields.

The roads and ruts created in strange places are smoothed so that the rough ground is as flat as possible.

I developed the magic of turning the bumpy fields that had been up to that point into vacant lots by combining them with stones and tree stumps that were in the way.

It was my secret pride that only our field in the village had a special appearance.

In addition to such magic, I could use magic that strengthens my entire body or only specific parts in addition to the magic that has been used frequently to cultivate fields.

And more recently, I've been able to make bricks using magic.

However, a little question came out again.

The magic that allows me to make fields and make bricks would be hard to give it a name.

Even if I'm the only one currently using it, I'm curious.

However, just chanting the magic name like the life magic used by my parents does not activate the magic.

It wouldn't make sense to give it a name.

I thought it would be good because I could use magic without chanting.

However, chanting spells and activating magic was a longing that remained in my heart.

Therefore, although I was a little embarrassed, I was just casting a spell.

Every time I cultivate a field, I say [Soil Improvement] even though it is not necessary.

It was almost meaningless, and I was in a state of chanting with a habit.

However, the moment I said this magical name that I was chanting somehow on that day, the magic was activated.

Until then, although I was accustomed to it, I manipulated the magical power inside my body to send it out of it, creating a solid image in my head and then activating magic.

However, this time, the magic could be activated at the moment of speaking.

[Soil Improvement], [Soil Improvement] ,[Soil Improvement].

Just by saying the magic name many times, the soil in the field will change as if given permission.

It's transformed into a nutritious type of soil like I've done so far in other places.

"Finally, I've developed an original spell ..."

I was so happy that I made a fist for a while and kept myself in a guts pose with my hands raised, and kept looking at the fields spreading in front of me.

 * * *

 Creation of spells.

This turned out to be more effective than I expected.

It saves me the trouble of concentrating my mind and manipulating my magical powers, imagining the effects of the magic in my head, and then activating it.

It sounds good to say that the conventional method is non-chanting magic, but overworking the brain every time is simply tiring.

In that respect, I am very grateful to say that the magic will be activated the moment I cast the spell.

The downside is that the effect has become quantitative.

If I do not chant, I can activate the image inside of my head as the end product of the magic as it is, so I can freely change the range that can be cultivated with [Soil Improvement].

At that time, the magical power used varies depending on the cultivation range.

However, if you cast a magic by casting a spell, the range of effect will be the same each time.

Maybe this is because I used it to grow Hatsuka behind the house.

I think it will be about 10x10m.

I felt that the amount of magical power consumed at the moment of casting the spell was about the same every time.

Why is it possible to do this?

I think the reason itself was because I chanted every time I activated the magic.

With that in mind, I started the experiment again.

I didn't need them because I had already built the storehouse, but I decided to mass-produce bricks.

The result of this experiment was successful.

Every time, I succeeded in creating a brick of the same size and mass just by casting a spell.

And I have learned from that experiment.

Perhaps this is what is called a pavlovian dog.

It is said that if you try to ring a bell every time you feed a dog, then the dog will just hear the bell and saliva will come out of its mouth. (TLN: Here: https://www.dictionary.com/browse/pavlov-s-dogs )

Organisms produce saliva when they eat food.

By repeating the process of listening to the sound of the bell and then eating food, it is made so that saliva is produced just by listening to the sound of the bell.

It seems that the moment you see the pickled plums, saliva comes out in your mouth.

So, spells are the key to the same thing happening when you cast magic.

When I first tried to use magic on the street, even if I muttered appropriate words like a spell, the magic did not work at all.

It may be that the order was different.

This is how I got a new technique called spellcasting.

I have to name the magic of physical strengthening and leveling.

After learning that, I was seen by the villagers as a strange child who muttered the same words alone and by himself.

TLN: No more chaps for today. More will be here at the same time tomorrow. By the way, it is 3 a.m. where I live…..
