The Queen eyes the corpses of its fallen clones with sadness and anger. Its piercing eyes landed on Ren and Eva.

It screeched.

Everything was ruined! Its whole colony of ants were gone. Its body was injured and its mound had been demolished.

The queen directed its hatred towards Ren and Eva.

Regret filled her mind.

Why had she not killed the Snake when she had the chance? Why had she not been stronger…?

Ren coldly stared at the Durant Queen. It was finally time to finish this.

[Ding! Enemy will provide 20 bioenergy.]

The sweet notification of the system went off within his head.

 

Ren remembered.

The memories of him being frightened by the Queen’s skills.

Of him running away from the hordes of Durants.

Of him fighting the Durant Hunters and the Durant Avatars.

It was finally going to end.

He was no longer the prey.

He was the hunter!

The Durant Queen desperately activated her mind skill.

[Frighten]

An dark and gloomy aura emanated from the Durant. 

Ren easily protected his mind with his mental defense. The Durant Queen did not take the opportunity to attack Ren and Eva.

It began to crawl away.

Ren was surprised for a second before nodding his head.

It made sense. The Queen was not suited to battle. All of her abilities lay in the creation of offspring.

Ren grinned.

‘So you’re weak…’

He approached the queen.

The Queen began to crawl faster. Her crushed legs impaired her ability to move.  An intense desire, a desire that it never felt before filled its mind.

To live… to survive.

‘You feel it right. The Desire… the thing that you took away from so many… Its going to be stripped from you.’

Ren used the last dredges of his spirit to create a sword.

‘Slice.’

With a single thought, the sword cut through the neck of the Queen.

Without a single scream, the Queen died.

It was a clean and easy death.

Ren stared at the corpse of the Queen before beginning to laugh.

‘Yes!’ He shouted out. He had done it. A yellow ranked Pokémon… the top of the food chain.

Eva floated to his side.

She scanned his body and made sure that he had no injuries.

‘Good.’ She said calmly. ‘Ren why are you laughing?’

‘We defeated one Eva! We fought an A tier Pokémon and won!’ Ren said.

‘Is that something good?’ Eva questioned as she tilted her head.

‘Of course… It’s…’

Ren stopped his sentence. Was it really that good? An A ranked Pokémon within one corner of some remote island?

It was definitely an achievement… but…

There was still so much to fight… so many stronger and stronger Pokémon to battle.

Heck they had not even fully explored a quarter of the island yet!

‘Eva! Let us divide the corpse of the Ant queen in half! Then we will go and explore!’ Ren stated loudly with newfound determination.

He was done with this region. It was time to find out the reason for these weird circumstances.

‘Un!’ Eva agreed happily. As long as she was with Ren… she could not be happier…

Ren stood on the ledge, overlooking the rest of the island.

A sea of greenery spread out beneath him.

The cool mountain breeze spread out over his body.

This was what it truly felt like to be alive!

He lost himself in the tranquility for a few seconds.

He looked back at the plains that contained the ant nest… to the jungles that he had hunted in… to the stream that he had lived off….

He was leaving it all behind.

He was sad… yet at the same time filled with excitement.

He stared at the mountains in the distance and the Large mountain in the center.

Something told him that hard battles stood in their way.

Ren wanted to see the rest of the island… the rest of the world.

His dream did not change.

Ren wanted to become strong enough to get back.

‘I think I myself have changed a bit…’ Ren thought as he eyed the excited Ralts floating to his side.

‘Eva!’

‘Yes Ren.’

‘Are you ready?’

‘Wherever you go, I will always be there.’ Eva replied with a bright smile on her face.

‘Good…. Then let’s set off…’

On to the next adventure!

 

End of Volume 1: Humble Beginnings

 

The official end of the first volume! Hope you guys enjoyed it. 

The second volume will be much shorter and will detail the rest of the island arc. After that, Ren will go into human society. 

I will continue taking 1-2 days off per week. I am currently working on another Fan-Fiction. More updates later.
