Chapter 2: Chains and Choices 

“It's weird right? I mean come on, I'm a vampire but i got caught easily, and to make it worse, they left me. The people i grew up with just abandoned me like i was nothing, they didn't even hesitate, now I'm suck in the fucking cell, no where to go. Nowhere to hide, just waiting to die”

 

Kuro's eyes slowly start to open as he wakes up in an unfamiliar place, as he looks around he noticed, no windows, very little light, and the smell of damp, a faint like comes from a small barred hole in the door, sounds of running water can be heard dripping from the ceiling, sounds of chains echo through the room as he moves

 

“H-huh Where am i?” Kuro said as he went to stand up but then noticed chains holding him down “oh that's right. They left me..”

 

Kuro begins to slowly look around the room to see if he can find anything that would let him escape but nothing, just an empty room filled with a boy that was abandoned 

 

Kuro behind to pull against the chains to try and break them, as he does the chains begin to glow as they burn into his skin

 

 “Ahhh! Damn it!” Kuro shouts in pain as he feels his skin get burned by the chains “Let me out!” he growls as he looks at the door

 

As Kuro spoke a guard looks through the small barred window “shut up in there” the guard grunted as he hits the door

 

Kuro begins growling as he remembers what the others did to him, he begins to pull hard at the chains with anger, "Let me out of here!” He shouted in pain as blue sparks comes from the chains as they burn him

 

The guard hits the door again this time hard “I won't warn you again, shut up!” The guard then goes back to leaning against the wall next to the door

 

Kuro starts to pant as he stops pulling on the chains, he then closes his eyes and takes a deep breath as he listen to the guards talking outside

“So what do you think he is'' a guard said to another guard “20 bucks says he's a demon” the guard replied “you kidding me? He's too weak to be a demon” the first guard laughed

 

Footsteps slowly approach the door “Ryuji sir!” the guard stoke at the same time and saluted

 

“Is he awake?” Ryuji said speaking in a soft tone

 

“Yes it's awake” The guard turns to the door and opens it “please be careful, he could still be dangerous” 

 

“Yeah yeah i know the drill” Ryuji laughed as he slowly walks into the cell and looks at Kuro

 

As Ryuji walk into the room, Kuro slowly opens his eyes looking at him as they turn a deep red, his fangs showing as he growls in a low pitch 

 

“You hungry kid?” Ryuji said as he places a bowl of food in front of him

 

Kuro just continued to stare at Ryuji “come on kid, I'm not going to hurt you” Ryuji said in a soft voice,” you must be hungry, so eat up”

 

Kuro says nothing as he looks away from Ryuji 

 

Ryuji sighs to himself “you got a name kid?” he moves so he can see Kuro face

 

Kuro quickly snaps his head towards Ryuji and growls “what is it to you? If you're going to kill me then kill me!”

 

Ryuji back up a little “well first knowing your name makes it easier to talk to you and second, i already said I'm not going to hurt you”

 

Kuro scoffed to himself and looks away again “then what do you want with me? If you don't intend to kill me then let me go”

 

“You know kid...I can't work out what you are, you're not a demon, I can tell that by how you fought, so what are you? “He looks into Kuro eyes with a curious look

Kuro looks back at Ryuji before spitting in his face “That's non of your business, so fuck off or kill me already” 

 

Ryuji sighs as he wipes the spit of his face “now why would i do that, in my eyes you're still a kid, you cant help how you was raised”

 

Kuro grows annoyed at Ryuji calling him a kid “stop calling me a kid!” Kuro growled 

 

“So you're not a kid? Not only are you acting like one but you also seem like one” Ryuji said he as laughed a little

 

Kuro sighs and looks at him “I'm nineteen, I'm not a kid!” he said with anger in his voice

 

Ryuji smiles at Kuro “so you do know how to talk about things, and nineteen is still a kid to me” he said as he picked up a cup of water “here, drink this”

 

Kuro looks at the cup then back at Ryuji “let me guess, poison?, sorry but that won't work on me” He said looking away again

 

“No, it's not poison, see?” Ryuji takes a sip of the water as Kuro looks at him “so here drink up” he offers the cup to Kuro

 

Kuro slowly takes the cup and looks at it “did you find them?” he asked before drinking the water

 

“You talking about the guys who left you?” Ryuji said as he sighs “sadly no, they got away”

 

Kuro growls” when i get out of here, and will, i will hunt them down and kill them” as Kuro talked Ryuji could feel the bloodlust in the air

 

“Sorry to say kid, they are long gone” Ryuji said as he stands up slowly “hopefully next time we speak, you will be willing to share you name” he said as he turned to leave

 

As Ryuji was about to leave Kuro opened his mouth and spoke “why haven't you killed me?”

 

Ryuji smiled as he stopped by the door “Maybe once I know your name it tell you” he said as he left the room

 

The guard look in at Kuro was disgust as he closed the door and locked it, 

 

“What the hell that old guy's problem?” he questioned and he looks around the room again

 

A few hours later

 

“Come on” Kuro says quietly as he was slowly trying to pull his hands out of the chains, his wrist was blooding and burt from trying to escape. Kuro suddenly stops moving as he hears footsteps come towards the door

 

The door suddenly opens as a man walked in. He had long brown hair, an angry expression and a hint of bloodlust follows him, Kuro looks up at him

 

“Who the hell are you?” Kuro said as he looked up at the man

 

“That's none of your business” the man said as he looked down at Kuro “so your monster? What does Ryuji see in you. Why don’t he just kill you already?” The man spoked annoyed

 

“I ask myself the same question” Kuro laughed to himself as he looked away

 

“You think this is funny?” The man said as he kicked Kuro in the face, as the man kicked Kuro in the face the back of his head hits the wall behind him, blood drips from his nose

 

Kuro continues to laugh as he spits blood at the man “is that all you got?” 

 

The man grows angry as he places his food on the top of Kuro's head before slamming it into the ground “you still think it's funny?” the man said as he pushes his foot down on Kuro’s head

 

Kuro laughs but also groans in pain “you humans are all the same” he said but as soon as he finished speaking a sharp pain fills the side of his face as the man kicks it,

 

The man grabs Kuro by the hair and forces Kuro to look at him ” you are nothing but filth, you have no place here with us humans!”

 

Kuro's eyes were bright red as he looked at the man, he slowly started to smile not saying anything but then a heavy bloodlust filled the room “is that all you got?” Kuro said in a cold and lifeless voice

 

The man throws Kuro head and backs up a little “h-haha, you think you can scare me?” He laughed nervously 

 

Kuro smiles again and lets out a small laugh but then suddenly stops as he looks down

 

“What's so funny?” The man goes to kick Kuro again but as he does Kuro looks up, the man's foot hits kuro straight in the face

 

Kuro looks up at the man as his foot was in his face “when i gets out of these chains, your gonna be the first one i kill”

 

The man looked annoyed as he pushed Kuro down one last time “I like to see you try” he said before leaving

 

*all humans are the same, its like they taught me” he raises his head and spits blood “it's kill or be killed” Kuro said as he looked around the room “i just have to wait for the right moment”

 

Three days later, Ryuji was busy taking care of business he had in the village so hasn't been able to check in on Kuro, but the man came to Kuro every day 3 times a day, punching, kicking, hurting Kuro as much as possible

 

Footsteps slowly approach the cell door, Kuro slowly looked up towards the door, he was beaten, Bruised and broken. The door slowly opens as Ryuji walked in

 

“You willing to ta- What the hell happened?” Ryuji's eyes widen as he sees Kuro in a bad state, he then rushes to Kuro

 

Kuro looks up at Ryuji weakly “l-like it matter” he coughs a little blood

 

“It does matter! Who did this?” Ryuji starts to clean Kuro's wounds

Kuro was breathing weakly as he moves his head away from Ryuji

 

“Looks kid I'm trying to help, talk to me” Ryuji said as he tries to treat Kuro's wounds 

 

Some footsteps can heard heading towards the cell as the man suddenly walk in” Oh here Ryuji Sir” the man said as he was surprised to see him there

 

Kuro looks up at the man and growls slightly 

 

“What are you doing here Shin?” Ryuji said as he looked at the man

 

Shin smiled as he looked at Kuro “oh nothing, just making sure the prisoner is behaving”

 

Ryuji looked annoyed “how many times do i have to tell you, he's not a prisoner”

 

Shin walks towards Kuro and raises his leg going to kick him “well its looks that way to me” 

 

Ryuji quickly grabs Shin’s leg to stop him kicking Kuro “What the hell do you think you're doing?

 

Kuro looks around as Shin and Ryuji was focusing on each other, he places his arms behind him grabbing his wrist, he then grits his teeth in pain as he breaks his wrists, as he does he slowly moves his arm out of the chain, he then does the same with his other wrist

 

Shin then faces away from Kuro looking at Ryuji “This thing needs to die! He is a monster after all! All monsters ne-” 

 

Ryuji stops Shin from talking “Shin, what you are doing is inhuman!, he might be a monster! But its because of how he was raised! He's still a kid!” Ryuji looks towards the door “leave now and don't come back!”

 

Kuro smiles as his eyes glow a bright red, this fangs grow pushing through his gums revealing itself

 

Shin growls at Ryuji as he goes to walk towards the door “your going to regret this!, i will let the higher ups know”

 

Ryuji sighs “Shin your the only one who's going to regret this, one day your going to piss off the wro-” Ryuji’s eyes widen as he sees Kuro stand “h-huh?”

 

Kuro smirks as he looks at Shin “he's right you know” the room fills with pure bloodlust

 

“Shin get back!” Ryuji shouts at him as he then thinks to himself “this bloodlust”

 

Shin looks at Kuro and laughs “Why would I? He's we-” Kuro suddenly grabs Shins throat crushing it despite his wrist being broken and bleeding 

 

“Weak huh?” Kuro said as he smirks but then he opens his mouth slowly showing his fangs

 

Shins eyes open in fear as he starts to struggle against Kuro but Kuro’s grip was to tight

“You don't have to do this kid!” Ryuji shouts at Kuro

 

Kuro looks at Ryuji “your right i don't, but i want to” Kuro said before biting down on Shin neck

 

Shin’s eyes starts to lose colour as Kuro drinks his blood, as Kuro was drinking Shin’s blood his wounds starts to heal

 

“V-vampire!!” Ryuji said shocked as he goes to stop Kuro

 

Kuro takes his mouth away from Shin’s neck, blood dripping from his lips down his chin as he slowly licks his lips “that was nice, but I'm not done!”  he then rips Shin’s throat from his neck as blood splat on him and Ryuji

 

Kuro leaves go of Shin as he falls lifeless onto the floor, “What the hell did you do!” Ryuji shouted

 

Kuro looked at Ryuji and tilts his head “I killed him duh and if you want to live I suggest getting out of my way” he said looking at Ryuji before walking to the door

 

Ryuji then dashes towards Kuro “you know I can't let you do that!!”

 

Kuro’s eyes suddenly dart to Ryuji as he goes to attack him, but Kuro blocks his attacks “you know, when i drink blood, im stronger!” Kuro quick grabs Ryuji’s arms and jumps into the air, as he does he knees Ryuji backwards

 

Ryuji staggers backwards as his nose starts bleeding from Kuro kneeing him in the face, but he quickly gains his footing, Ryuji quickly ducks down as he tries to leg sweep Kuro

 

Kuro jumps over his leg sweep and smirks as he kicks Ryuji into the wall “I won't warn you again, stay out of my way!”

 

Ryuji jumps off the wall at Kuro but Kuro side steps his attacks “Why did you kill him? You could have let him go!?” 

 

Kuro laughs as he looks at Ryuji “i killed him because he pissed me off”

 

Ryuji grows angry as he shakes his head “you killed him because you were pissed off?”

 

“For the last 3 days, he's done nothing but abuse me! Took my food! And all I did was exist! You humans are the same!” Kuro said as he growled 

 

“Not all humans are like that! “He says looking at Kuro “By the will of the gods, I ask you to stop my target” he says as he does a hand sign 

 

Kuro body stops moving as his eyes widen “w-what the hell did you do?”
He tries to move but can't, his eyes then turn back to normal

 

“I used a seal on you when i first knocked you out” He said as he walked to Kuro “and your wrong, not all humans are the same”

 

Kuro growls “is that was true then why am i the last of my kind? All you humans do is kill us? Why because we exist!” Ryuji drags Kuro back to the chains and starts to put them on him

“Your a vampire ain't you” Ryuji does a hand sign and Kuro can move again

 

Kuro looks away as he is chained back up “so what if I am?” he says

 

Ryuji sighs “look kid I me-” Kuro interrupts him

 

“My name isn't kid its Kuro!” He growls at Ryuji

 

“Ok Kuro, I mean what I said” He looked at Kuro with a soft look

 

“That all humans ain't bad? Then why does everyone always try to kill me!” he said with tears in his eyes

 

“Well I didn’t do it?” He said looking at Kuro then at Shin’s body “what am i going to do about this” He sighed 

 

Kuro looks away “i don't regret what i done, in fact if I could do it again i would”

 

The guards come on and Ryuji orders them to take the body “Look Kuro, you should only take a life in you need to, life is important, no matter who it is” 

 

Kuro growls as he looks at Ryuji “its killed or be killed! And I prefer doing the killing”

 

“Its sad you see life that way” Ryuji said as he stands up “one day Kuro i hope you know how it feels to save a life...not take one” 

 

“Yeah whatever” He sighs but notices one of the chains are lose

 

A guard suddenly ran in painting “Ryuji sir! It's your daughter!”

 

Ryuji face fills with worry “What's wrong” is voice broke

 

Guard “S-she's missing!”

The Guard and Ryuji run out of the room quickly, as the leave Kuro takes off the chains and stands up, he then thinks to himself “did he leave them lose on purpose?”

 

Kuro then sighs as he remembers the past when he was training with Hiroki

 

9 years ago

 

Kuro sigh and looks down “why are humans so mean, i don't understand”

 

Hiroki looks at Kuro “like I said before boy its kill or be killed”

 

Kuro looks up at Hiroki “but why? Why does it have to be that way? Why can't we just live in peace?” He said sadly

 

Hiroki sighs heavily and shakes his head “Kuro the world you dream on is just that a dream, reality is harsh and unforgiving, humans will kill you on site” 

 

“But i don't want to kill anyone! "he said as he looks at his hands “I just want them to accept me!”

 

Hiroki stands up “your being a fool boy!” he then leaves the room, a few moments later he comes back with a human” Kuro, kill this human!” He said throwing the man on the floor by Kuro

 

The man looked scared as he looks at Kuro “please i beg you, don't kill me!”

 

Kuro looks away with tears in his eyes “i-i can’t, I wont kill anyone”

 

“You leave me with no other choice” Hiroki said as he pulls a knife out of his pocket and throws it neck to the man “if you kill him, you get your freedom” he said looking at the man

 

The man picks up the knife and slowly walks towards Kuro, Kuro’s eyes widen as he looks at the man “p-please don't do this!”

 

“I'm sorry its me or you” The man swings the knife at Kuro but suddenly an arm goes through the names chest

 

“Do you see now boy! It's us or them!” Hiroki shouts as he throws the man’s body away “now clean this up!” He growls and leaves

 

Present day

 

“What the hell is wrong with me? Why am I remembering this now?” Kuro said shaking his head before escaping from the cell, he then sneaks through the village and end up in the woods

 

“Now it's time to hunt them down and get my revenge!” Kuro said to himself as he walks through the woods

 

Kuro stops in his tracks as he hears someone running towards him “great, Now what?” He turns and looks towards where he hears the running 

 

A small girl falls out of a bush and onto the floor, the girl doesn't look older than ten, he hand short blond hair, but her eyes was different one was blue while the other was green

 

“H-help me!” She looks at Kuro with tears in her eyes

 

“Huh? A human? I guess i could use a snack” He says as he walks towards her but then stops as something comes out of the trees

 

A demon comes from the tree’s this demon didn't look human, in fact it looked like a monster, the demon looked at Kuro then at the girl, it then started walking towards the girl again

 

The girls face fills with panic as the demon comes closer to her “P-please! I don’t want to die!”

 

“N-not my problem” Kuro said as he starts walking away

 

The demon ignores Kuro as its growls at the girl

 

The girl starts to cry hard “SOMEONE SAVE ME!” she shouts as loud as she can

 

The demons swings at her with full power

 

Kuro quickly tackles the girl out of the way as the demon hits the ground the area around them breaks and shakes

 

“What the hell am i doing!” Kuro stands back up and looks at the girl “you ok” he said softly

The girl nods but then whimper in pain “I hurt my leg” She says her voice filled with fear

 

“Great” Kuro said as he looked back at the demon “just stay behind me ok?”

 

The girl nods as she stands behind Kuro holding his shirt

 

“I didn't mean that clo-” Kuro quickly picks the girl up and jumps backwards avoiding an attack from the demon

 

The demon lets out a blood curdling scream as it looks at Kuro

 

“Listen I need you to stay here” He said putting the girl down, he then looks bac at the demon “Look I'm in a bad mood so if you would kindly fuc-” Kuro jumps over the demon as it swing at him, but as he does he turns his body and kicks the demon backwards

 

Kuro lands on his feet as the demon slides backwards “I guess everything just wants to piss me off”

 

The demon roar at Kuro as it does it hits a tree sending it flying towards Kuro, Kuro quickly blocks the tree as it does it breaks around him

 

“M-mister are you ok?” The Girl said as she tries walking towards him 

 

“Stay back!” Kuro shouted as the smoke cleared but then he notices the demon swing at the girl

 

Kuro body seemed to react on its own as he dived in front of the attack, as it does the demon's hand goes through Kuro's side, Kuro grits his teeth in pain and spits blood

 

Kuro growls as he grabs the demon’s arm that inside of him “ w-why the hell did i do that?”

 

The demon growls as he twist his arm in Kuro “M--mister! "The Girl shouts as she got tears in her eyes

 

“Stay back!” Kuro eyes glow red as punches the demon in the face, as his fist hits the demon it creates a shockwave sending the demon flying through the trees, Kuro coughs blood as the demon's hand rips from his side, he falls to his knees

 

The girl cries more as she looks at Kuro “p-please just run! Your already hurt because of me”

 

Kuro slowly stand up and growls “just shut up and stay behind me”

 

The girl flinches and nods “o-ok” She said as she shakes a little

 

“I'm finishing this” Something takes over his body as blood starts to spiral in his hand, he then jumps into the air and raises his hand, the blood spiral turns into a compact ball, he then swings his hand towards the demon throwing the ball of compact blood

 

Kuro lands on his feet as the ball hits the demon, Kuro then clicks his fingers as he does the blood on the demon glows “Blood Magic: Impact!” Kuro Shouted as everywhere the blood touched blew up

 

“W-what the hell was that” Kuro said as he looked at his hand but then his vision when blurred, he then falls to his hand and knees “that took it ou-” He passes out as he its the ground

 

“M-mister!” The girl limped to Kuro and starts to shake him

 

“Akari! Where are you?” Ryuji voice can be heard in the distance 

 

Akari shouted “D-Daddy? Daddy over here” she said as she waved her hands

 

Ryuji sees her and runs to her “Akari? You Hurt? What happened?” He sounded panicked as he checks over her “the guards said you when missing you had me so worried” He said as he hugs her

 

“I-im sorry, i was a cute butterfly and started chasing it, next thing I knew I was lost, but then a monster attacked me” she starts to cry as Ryuji hugs her “but then he saved me” She said pointing at Kuro

 

Ryuji wipes her tears “It's fine as long as your safe” He said then looks at Kuro “Akari are you sure he's the one who saved you?”

 

Akari nodded as she looks at him “h-he even got hurt protecting me”

 

Ryuji stands up and walks to Kuro “what's going on?” his eyes widen as he cant believe what he heard

 

Kuro was passed out and bleeding from his wound Ryuji then kneels down and looks at him “thanks you..” He picked Kuro up as another guard pick Akira up “Let's go home”
