Also, if you're trying to do an escapist novel, as most isekai's are, making the race ambiguous, unless truely important to the story, allows for the reader to self insert better.
Also also, stating race just seems awkward most of the time.
I think all humans no matter how good or bad their life is will always want more, especially those who have less, you may not have a desire but that doesn't mean you wouldn't want your life to improve in some way (lover, money, etc...)
