Fuck! There’s a lot of them out there.”

Peeking my head out the crack of the library door, I said under my breath. Just a couple of feet in front of me was a gruesome scene. In the bloodied hallway in front of me was a group of people numbering close to twenty and they were munching on the bodies of my former schoolmates like there was no tomorrow.

“…Let’s try a different route.”

Slowly closing the library door, I surveyed the library for another way out. After looking around for about a minute, I found my escape route. It was the window on the second floor, it was slightly propped open. I can use that to get up on the library’s roof top and check my overall surroundings.

Wasting no time, I silently but quickly make my way upstairs.

CHOMP! CHOMP!

I heard the sounds of flesh being eaten in one of the aisles but I ignored it and quietly sneaked by. I’m not some ecstatic zombie killing aficionado, if I can avoid a fight I’m going to avoid it.

I arrived at the propped up window. It was actually a bit taller than I imagined, being at around nine feet.

“...”

I look back at the aisle that had sounds of chewing coming from it.

…I’ll need to make this quick.

Taking a few steps back, I get into a running stance and run towards the wall at full speed.

In one swift motion, I ran up the wall and managed to grab the window’s ledge. While the backpack on my back made hanging here a little cumbersome, it’s nothing compared to walking six miles up mountainous terrain with seventy pounds of full gear.

“Hmph!”

So with a muffled grunt, I pulled myself through the window and rolled onto the roof of the library. As I was laying there, I stared at the cloudy sky in a sense of absent mindedness.

I could hear the sounds of sirens blaring in the distance.

The shouts and screams of agony below me.

And the occasional sounds of gunfire.

Without even having to look up to observe my surroundings, I already know that it’s hell out there.

“This reminds me of being down range.”

I said as I got up. And as crazy as it sounds, I don’t feel the least bit scared. In fact, I feel comfortable, like I’m in my zone.

Ah, how I miss this feeling.

“Hmm, these rooftops connect. And thankfully, it’s connected in the direction of the parking lot.”

The less time I have to duck and dodge those rabid people below me, the faster I can get to Nathan and Nicole.

I hope they’re safe.

“Ah!”

All of a sudden, as I was making my way towards the parking lot, I heard a growl near me. Stopping dead in my tracks, I look to my right, near what I think is an electric box, and see a big man wearing a white hard hat and a tool belt decked out in an assortment of tools.

This guy must’ve been an electrician before he turned into whatever he is.

“Ah!”

He then sets his sights on me.

“Come on big boy. You wanna play?”

Pulling out my knife, I said as I got into a fighting stance. This guy was standing around six feet and was pushing about two hundred and fifty pounds easily. While I’m confident in my fighting ability, fighting against someone with that stature is a bit difficult.

“Ah!”

The man ran towards me with bloodshot eyes and a roar. And the moment he got close to me, the only thing I did was step to the side and watch him plummet off the room of the library and hit the concrete with a thud.

…I guess the saying is true, ‘the bigger they are, the harder they fall’ because he fell like a sack of bricks.

Anyways, I dismiss the killing of that guy and continue my way across the building rooftops. I don’t know if that guy was the only person up here but it didn’t take long for me to reach the building overlooking the parking lot.

However…

“M-my baby!”

Upon arriving and desperately searching for my bike, I found something I wished I never saw.

My bike was in tattered pieces. It had no front wheel and the frame and engine was bent beyond and dented beyond repair.

“Noooi!”

I hollered aloud. I no longer cared if those crazy people found me. Screw the apocalypse! I just want my bike back!

Thousands of dollars gone in the blink of an eye.

…Fuck they guy that ruin over my bike.
