"HA!"
A multitude of skeletons that were crowding around Garvin's shield were all pushed away with the heft of his arm. Gavin himself was unscathed as a result of the heavy leather armor he wore.
Even though adventurers were relatively well off compared to average citizens that still didn't mean they could afford full metal armor. Gavin himself didn't seem to care that much about getting new armor. He said that metal was a hassle to take care of. Kotori could see that his leather armor was well maintain despite it's worn look.
A pig-sized ball of fire roared past and struck another throng of a skeleton near them. The explosion instantly shattered their fragile bodies. Bones flew everywhere and clattered against the ground echoing throughout the ruins they were in.
Norbert would flit around the battlefield and pick up the occasional coin or rusty sword the skeletons would leave behind before they turned to dust and their mana dissipated.
Kotori had observed the loot Norbert was picking up and saw that the coins were old and faded with no semblance of any marking. The swords themselves were sold for scrap metal.
Kotori watched their trio and their surprising teamwork. Although it was unlikely that they had worked together for that long it didn't seem like they had any trouble meshing together.
She herself was standing at the sidelines with Amelie and her Spirits. Although she could also fight she wasn't really in the mood to do so and also didn't feel like giving the kingdom any her of labor if she had to. The skeletons were actually quite weak in comparison to her but they could be dangerous in large groups which is how they spawned in this dungeon.

She still thought it was interesting that skeletons would spawn in the first place. The process as to how dungeons monsters spawned and what determined it was still lost on her. Skeletons would seem apt in these ruins but they were completely artificial.
Incidentally, the dungeon they were in was a "cave ruins" type which meant that the main enemies would be these skeletons, cave rats, and higher ranking undead. They had already run into a few skeletons captains who were higher stated and able to control other skeletons to some extent. Not that it mattered since the orders they gave were very rudimentary. All of it amounted to
"Run in and hit invaders"
Which wasn't much different from the skeleton's base behavior in the first place...
Amelie and Kotori continued to watch the adventurers make quick work of the Skeletons in the section of the ruin they were in. They themselves were chatting while eating small snacks. Shu had made a small table and chairs and they were relaxing while the others were doing their work.
Since Kotori and Amelie wouldn't be able to profit off this dungeon run they simply told Gavin and Co to take all the loot for themselves. This was why the other adventurers didn't bother them while they sat in the corner. Kotori would occasionally activate [Hunter] and give some MonMochi to Shu and Umi. The amount of mana the Skeleton had was pitiful and thus she didn't bother trying to eat them herself.
"They've got good coordination," Kotori remarked
"Mhmm" Amelie said as she crunched down on a small biscuit.
The ruin had a very symmetrical layout with a steadily descending floor and each time they descended another floor Kotori would have Shu set up their table and chairs in a corner and they would watch.
[Dungeons exploring is quite relaxing when you don't have to work] Kotori thought.
She herself was a lazy person and quite liked this arrangement. Shu and Umi seemed to take the role of manservant and maid like this and would often hold their bags and fill the small clay plate they had with more snacks. If Kotori was thirsty Umi would use some of the water in her body to pour a cup for her.
Kotori had not ordered them to do this. It seemed that both of the spirits insisted on doing.
[Well, it's not hurting anybody and they seem to enjoy it so I guess I'll let them keep doing this] She thought
The adventurers had finally finished up this section and floor of the ruin and were now moving on.
They were chatting amongst themselves. Kotori eavesdropped a bit of their conversation and learned that they were talking about the bar they were going to frequent that night. Apparently, Norbert was quite partial to a waitress by the name of Yulia there.
The next few floors were rather simple and straightforward like the other ones and they continued deeper.
Eventually, they reached a dead end.
Well, to call it a "Dead end" would be incorrect.
They had finished their room and walked into a large hallway. The Hallway was markedly different than the stone caverns and rooms they were in. The Hallway had an extremely high ceiling and tiled floors. The floor was very clean which was unusual considering the fact that there was no one who would bother to clean a dungeon in the first place. At the end of the hallway was a large double door. The door had several inscriptions on it and depictions of armies and monsters locked in heated battles.
Gavin and the other immediately turned back upon seeing the hallway and the doors;
Now, the floors in a dungeon would get steadily harder as the mana concentration in the area increased, and thus the deeper you went the harder monsters you would find.
Although Gavin, Delvin, and Norbert seemed able to take on their current floor they still didn't seem to want anything to do with the hallway and the door.
"Wait wait wait" Kotori called out
"Why aren't we taking on this part of the dungeons"
Gavin looked at them with a knowing glance.
"You young'un don't know about this room"
He tapped the ground with his shield.
"Past this hallway is the boss room, it can be considered the source of the dungeon. For one, it's bad manners to take it since the dungeon stops existing, and second, the boss in there is insanely strong. Don't let the skeletons fool you. The boss in there is a real handful, not even that Yooma was able to take it down."
The other adventurers nodded their heads.
"I was there and I can say that monster is strong enough that the King's Queen would not be able to take it down"
Delvin added
[Queen?] Kotori thought?
This was a thought that was quickly followed by another
[Sounds tasty!]
How can a person be so stupid and so selfish. In addition to selling her only friend without asking anything about it, she didn't even bother talking to a girl I'm really thinking about dropping this novel but just because everything that happened before she left the village of the forest elves was wonderful, I'll give it a chance but it's already annoying
Genuine question since I’m always looking to improve. What did you like about the wood elf arc and what do you dislike about this arc?
I’ve always thought the wood elf village was one of my weaker plotlines and scared it would sound contrived
@Newfypuppie The thing is that you build an arc developing the bond between FC and Amelie, showing the powers of Hunting and pointing out the goal for FC and the next arc you just... wipe out everything. Between destroying Amelie by making her a slave and making FC working for the same people that made that...... I just dont understand it.
And Im seeing that FC is going to befriend this Yooma guy or something and meanwhile Amelie is wondering why her friend, the one who made her gain courage to leave her home, is selling her and now she is a slave? I just dont understand.
Im sorry if this commentary looks angry but im not good at expresing myself and English is not my main languaje. Apologies.
@Ganandorf98 No this is very true, I think perhaps the idea that this was meant to be a force choice was not part of the equation
"Join or Die" was what I was trying to imply. Not "Sell out my friend"
@Newfypuppie the thing I don't like about wood elf forest arc is that it was a time of powerlevelling the mc and finding more about powers she is strong but got her ass handed in fight , mc seriously needs a buff
@Newfypuppie Yooma is a Asshole and the MC still not figured out that it was a setup! And yes its kind clear you think Yooma will be a good friend.. Please do not do this Everyone here Already hates him. WE LIKE Hating him . we all want him dead.. And the reason we are pissed at the MC is she did not ask Amelie. Yes they had no choice but she still should of asked. And its clear that the reason only one that got the collar was Racist reason.
And Yooma kind stinks of a Mary Sue.. We are supposed to hate him then realize there wear reasons and then you are supposed to get us to like him?
Nope the Novel will fail if that was the plan. First impressions matter . In fact they are all that matter. If it turns out we had it all wrong and he had no Idea that His Bosses set the Girls up and He frees them ect ect ect the Entire redemption bit witch is what every reader thinks is coming. You will just leave us unsatisfied.
Yooma a Jerk and instantly dislikable. We want him dead slowly.. Nothing you can do as the Author can fix this Period. If He laughed and admitted he set them up maybe even Attacked and raped Amelie then that piece of crap could work his way to redemption.
But you played him as Perfect Hero! And Nothing is More Hate inspiring or detestable ! We all Had to deal or will deal with a Yooma in are lives or will have to and we hate them. It why Rey in starwars has so much hate or Captain Marvel in the MCU. Its the Absolute certainty the Author trying to convince us that this is a Hero LIKE HIM! And Nothing will ruin your story Quicker.
I created a character for a game once that was a Saint like healer Dr Kindos Everyone hated him. The more I tried to make him Likeable the more hate he inspired . I built a New Character Val Savan ! My Vengeance on the Party . A complete degenerate selfish backstabbing Scumbag. A thief a traitor.. And Everyone Loved the Guy!!!! I was like What the F%^& ! A Player Explained it this way .. Val Savan was Fun to be around. He was screwed up Evil crazy but funny but interesting and felt real. He Wrapped his face in tar and bandages to hide a curse that disfigured him(showed his true heart). The Exact Opposite of Dr Kindos. Who was Moral and forced and dull. People Loved Val Savan because even though they knew he might drug them and sell them into slavery he make every minute with him fun Interesting.. Dr Kindos was a good man and a DULL MAN! And if you thought about it Dr Kindos would betray you for a high good. Just like Yooma. Just as fast as Val Savan. If not faster!
Val Savan was like "I am scum if you trust me you only have yourself to blame! " Smile kiss you and give you a rose! Then try sell your soul to a demon lord!
When you make a character this instantly detestable and hate inspiring do not waist it by trying to fix it instead use it as a villain. Or fan service death. Nothing more fun than killing the self righteous.
Yes he is self righteous as a defining trait of his character.. And like a Human turd served on a Dinner Plate of a 5 star Meal, he ruins the story by his very Existence. .
@dragondeathlord Ah yeah. There are plans for a rewrite of this arc.
Yooma was poorly planned out as a character. Archetype was supposed to be "Samurai who well-meaning but loyal to a fault" But I wasn't really executing it well. I have plans for making him a bit more bearable as a character.
@Newfypuppie wood elf forest arc Felt Organic I wish we got to find out wear all the male went and more about the BOSS! But it was very fun!
@Newfypuppie DO NOT DO THAT! Quote"Samurai who well-meaning but loyal to a fault" But I wasn't really executing it well. " He is GOLD! He is so hate inspiring you will be wasting him making him bearable as a character. We Hate him who said thats a bad thing?
When Hannibal Lecter was created by Thomas Harris he was meant to be a petty criminal .. But Thomas Harris used this modification on memory Palace to play out scenes in his head. Anyway he nearly Deleted Hannibal Lecter because when he tried to play out the scene he saw Lecter Looking straight at him! And KNEW he was a Character in a story and Thomas Harris said he nearly wet him self. His Imaginary Character scared him. And he knew he needed to his story later "Silence of the Lambs"
Characters need to inspire great feelings !
Yooma Dose that Perfectly just not as you intended.
You be Able to create something to Really piss us off with him . But yes he a turd. Your Dr Kindos .
Unbearable as a character.
You will struggle to make a villain this hate inspiring!
When he is ruined and crushed it will be so sweet.
He Reminds me of a DMV Official or a IRS man.
@Saver shes 9 years old. I think its reasonable for 90% of the world to wipe the floor with her in a fight
@drakensji now you say it like that I think you are right it's just I expected her to get little but more strong
@drakensji Ahh I still say he will make a damd fine punching bag villain!
