A woman who looked like someone in her forties sat on a throne in the ruins of what should have been a castle. She wore a mage’s robe with no adornment, she only had in her hands a grimoire. Looking around the ruins of the castle, words could not describe the battle that had brought this once-majestic castle into its current state. Parts of the castle were still burning as smoke rose up into the skies. Some walls were covered in cuts and dents from cold weapons like swords and clubs. The entrance to the palace was divided into two by two serpents; one was made of ice and the other made of fire. They danced until they strangle each other to death leaving behind crystal shards of ice and a pool of lava at the entrance.

Sigh

It had been 20 years since the world had ended. Today was the very last day that earthlings stood their ground united under the banner of the [Earth Forever] guild, and today would be the day that I die.

How did it get to this point?

I looked back at my life: over the past 20 years, we earthlings constantly struggled to survive, fighting for our freedom from this goddamn system. At the start of it all, we were clueless about the new world, but we were good at adapting to its changes. It was human behaviour to associate changes of this nature with something easily comprehensible, but this was our first mistake. People believe we were in a game, a game with unlimited revive. A game where everyone could be heroic. Leeeeeeeeeeeeeroy Jenkins, that became a way of life, charge first, plan later. Everyone wanted to be recognised, a vast majority chose to be damage dealers, frontline attacks, glass cannons who could wreck a whole boss lair by themselves with advanced high damaging skill but little thought on defence or protection. This imbalance slowly became the norm, Tanks who were needed in a party to control monsters and defend became none existing after the Class-Change potion was unveiled. This imbalance also brought along with it greed, people already had an unquenchable thirst for power; this led to internal strife, and schemes that drove humans to extinction.

Those who were treated as royalties due to their achievements here in the new world were the first to abandon earth, betraying their own kind for their own survival.

Sigh

I looked around as corpses of both humans and aliens alike filled the hall.

“Mia Rose, I know you are in there. You are not one to die so easily, it would have been boring otherwise. Your castle is in ruin and you have been surrounded. Come outside!

I have vouched for your skills; they are willing to accept you; if you surrender and perform the race change ritual. Do you remember what I told you 10 years ago? we do everything for survival, I did what I had to do to survive now the choice is yours” this was announced by a red-skinned succubus with two long horns growing out of her forehead, she wore a belly crop top with a mini-skirts which barely hid her underwear. Behind her was a reddish-black tail that kept moving with a mind of its own.

‘How can I not hear you, Michelle Vereen!’ I thought to myself. Michelle was ranked 5th out of 10 billion earthlings that were suddenly transferred to the new world. She was like a big sister to everyone and people looked up to her. This was until she found the criteria for learning a special skill was to become a demoness, now an uncountable amount of human blood had been shed by her.

“Michelle, You sold yourself to the demons and sabotaged my castle, the last castle earth had. I was a fool to have trusted you with everything. Like you everyone who had the power to change how things turned out ran away. It might be better this way, we can all rest in the underworld or whatever, at least we would not have to deal with this godforsaken system ever again” I shouted out from the castle, my voice echoed in the empty room. I realised that I was already crying as I dried off the tears on my face. I wasn’t scared of dying, I was actually relieved knowing that I was the last one left. My death will end it all.

Sigh

I slowly got out of my throne. I opened my grimoire to the last page. The grimoire was an item a mage used to store their spells, compared to the rest of the book, which had white papers, the last page was blood red in colour.

This was a spell I had never used. Like Michelle who chose to join the demons in order to learn a special skill, I also possessed a special spell with a very unusual condition; the tooltip ranked the spell as a forbidden spell with a very high destructive power, but it could only be cast using the caster’s health a resource.

Putting all my mana into my grimoire, I slowly chanted the spell incantation.

A voice popped up in my head.

[You have cast Forbidden magic – Origin. This spell uses all your mana and HP as resources to cast the spell. Warning, you have 30 seconds before you self-destruct.

A count down slowly ticked away. 30, 29, 28, …]

Status

Name: Mia Rose

Race: Fallen Race

Class: Arcane Mage *Hidden Class*

<Active> Title: Last Human Standing <Active>

I once again sat on the throne. With all my remaining strength I shouted these words.

I am the last human standing!

BOOM!

Everything from the castle to a 20-mile radius disintegrated into nothing.
