Many many years later…

Maggie’s view

After reviewing the latest reports, I spoke. “It seems a hero has finally made it into our lands.”

“Really? What do they hope to accomplish? Are they going to assassinate the king?”

My dear friend Yvette was (as usual) having similar thoughts as I did.

“Wouldn’t be much point even if they could, our kingdom won’t fall apart from something like that.” I replied.

Really, this whole thing seemed kinda silly. In the past, most acts of aggression were from the monsters launching raids on human lands. Humans would sometimes form an attack force to cause havoc in our lands and that would result in more peaceful times for humans for a while. Now though, we aren’t attacking them at all. Have our roles reversed? Do we need to form an attack squad to cause havoc in their lands to get peace for a while?

Hero’s view

I’d heard the tales of the monster lands. Tales of how it had once been a thriving human kingdom that fell into the grasp of a monster god that corrupted the very land and all who inhabited it. Still, it didn’t really prepare me for what I saw.

Strange skin colors, horns, extra eyes or missing eyes, tails, strange animal ears, everyone was different. Yet all seemed almost human except for a few of these bizarre traits. Corrupted indeed.

Unfortunately, the scope of my task was clearly beyond what I could hope to accomplish alone. I’d have to take my time and seal a few here and there until I can either make a plan to capture more, or I have enough to be worth going back to get them purified at home. If I’m lucky, maybe some of the purified will be strong enough to bring with me when I return.

… eh? Why do I suddenly see eyes appearing on the walls? Light! I’ve been found again!

***Author Note***

This wasn’t how I intended the story to go… I haven’t even plugged up all the plot holes yet. There’s so many of them! *sigh*

Hmmm… Jame’s security: 19
Hero’s stealth: 2
I think it’s clear who’s winning this. I swear, that freaking d20 has really really been favoring the war ending. With the hero failing this pathetically, I don’t even have a proper excuse for the kingdom under Lae’s influence to launch a counter-offensive.
