Chapter 43 – Inheritance

Emanuel reread his manuscript. He was writing another novel about an old man who saw his doppelganger when he was a boy. He wanted to be sure his thoughts and feelings were conveyed.

“As the boy experienced each day passing with his life decreasing and mental faculties deteriorating, he couldn’t help but recall the only chance he has.”

“I should’ve killed him; he declared in a deranged manner. He hated himself for being soft. Just because they befriended each other? Yet didn’t the former stab him in the back in the end?”

“In the end though, he won. That’s what he thought.”

“He didn’t know that the longer his doppelganger lived, the more dangerous it was to him!”

“The latter was stealing his life and identity!”

While reading, Emanuel was also thinking about what his shadow did in secret. He was sure this bastard had done something corruptible.

The latter sneered inside knowing what Emanuel was thinking.

Illinois noticed his dozing father’s maniacal grin and knew the latter was imagining things again.

“I’ll tell Mom about this pervert.” He snickered and went to the kitchen while picking up a cat to cuddle.

Aurora grinned at the incoming Illinois before turning to look at her excited mother.

“My baby.” Tears welled up in Cleo’s eyes before an expression of admonishment appeared on her face. “What have you done?! You rascal! Since when!”

Aurora could easily dodge Cleo’s palm but she prevented herself. She got smack in the head yet a sense of warmth filled her entire being.

“Mom, I was wrong.” Aurora hugged her mom for the nth time.

Cleo sobbed as she recalled the news about Aurora’s death. Her heart fell to the ground and broke into many pieces. She felt empty inside.

Fortunately… She was alive!

Earlier, Emanuel explained to her that Aurora had only gone hiding after suffering a heavy injury. Cleo became worried and asked where Aurora got injured. However, the latter shook her head and said it was scary. She reassured her that she was totally fine. Only then Cleo stopped pestering her and hurried to let her rest.

Cleo looked at her son. She also received Emanuel’s explanation about the latter. The boy lost his memory. For her, it was a good thing. She decided not to provoke him with the things that could awaken his memories of the past.

Aurora entered her cute room. Her brows knitted. A sudden chuckling sounded behind her. She turned around and saw her father grinning at her.

“Let’s talk. Tell me everything you’ve experienced.” Emanuel patted her head.

The young lady shook her head and smiled. “No, how about you tell me what is happening.”

“Aiyo. You want some spanking, don’t you? You learn how to talk now!”

“Heeheehee. Just tell me, Dad. I was truly dead back then. Did you clone me?”

Emanuel looked down and saw her sparkling eyes. He knew what this lass was thinking!

Unlimited lives equals unlimited chances!

He felt helpless. “My good daughter. Please stop with your dangerous adventures. Your mom cannot take it anymore. What if she got sick from worrying too much?”

“But isn’t it great! I can no longer die! We can no longer die! She won’t have to worry anymore!” She licked her luscious lips. Devilish plans sprouted on her head like mushrooms.

“How can you conclude it like that?” The father shook his head. Most people would feel worried about cloning and start questioning their existence and morality. But his own lass was kind of a weird one.

“Dad, just tell me. And why is my brother with me back there?” Aurora’s sharp glance targeted Emanuel’s sneaky expression.

Emanuel felt he was stabbed in the stomach. He thought Illinois was perfectly safe with cats guarding him. But to think he didn’t manage to calculate the extent of Illinois’ possible actions!

In this case, he already created another memory in Illinois’ mind so he won’t even know he’d died already nor experienced those awful things. The boy just knew they left the city and entered a new school. Only he left Aurora’s memory because he literally had to mind-wipe her from the very beginning which would lead to serious repercussions.

“Hehehe, Ninth, you are still too young!” A sarcastic voice sounded inside him.

“Ehem. Ehem. Instead of you running out with dangerous gusto, might as well work with me.” Emanuel took out a tablet and showed her some images and information.

“You should know already… There are tons of inheritances in the world. You have ‘Bioengineering’ inheritance in you which means you have joined a very powerful organization. Don’t say that it was your Skeleton Snake because I know you are inside another circle.”

A murderous light flashed in Emanuel’s eyes. “And they are the ones who killed you.”

Aurora nodded. “They are called the Secret Federation. They mostly operated in the west with some of their shadows encroaching on the east. Only because the Tiger Republic and Battle Country shield the east that’s why they are hard-pressed to do what they want.”

In response, Emanuel shook his head. It wasn’t because of these two countries why Secret Federation didn’t dare to be arrogant in the East. He knew more than his daughter but he didn’t want to tell her more than necessary.

“We just have to destroy Secret Federation, no?” Emanuel gave her a side-eye. He showed a few pictures on the monitor. “We just have to kill these bastards. Then, we can worry no more.”

Aurora was taken aback. Even though she was excited about the prospect of unlimited lives, it didn’t mean she wasn’t infallible. The Secret Federation was a huge entity with its palm covering the entire west. Even with such a cheat wasn’t enough to shake this huge tree.

But for her father to utter its destruction with few words made her speechless!

“It’s ‘Cloning Technology’, isn’t it? It's a convenient inheritance. It’s really powerful.” Aurora shook her head. “But I don’t think it’s enough to defeat them.”

Emanuel shrugged and clicked his tongue before he flicked Aurora’s nose which to her annoyance.

“Rain, come here!” Woosh. Rain galloped and slcutelyner before Aurora’s eyes.

“Dance around, will ya?” Rain tilted his head before understanding his owner’s intention. Shua! He disappeared in a heartbeat!

Aurora’s eyes widened because she couldn’t see Rain anymore until she felt a fluffy texture on her back. She looked back and saw Rain rubbing his head against her!

“What a good kitty!” She was both mesmerized by his cuteness and shocked by his speed!

“Now, it’s showtime.” Emanuel winked at Rain and the latter didn’t disappoint. It belched out a metallic ball that rolled on the bed. Rain tapped it and the sphere melted on his paw before spreading over his body!

Rain hissed! A helmet covered his head, a wristwatch with a monitor on both of his front paws and a backpack sat on top of his luscious fur! He was a combination of cute and cool!

The cat dashed away from Aurora’s arms. This time he showed off some of his gadgets. His bag opened on its own and a mechanical propeller appeared.

Rain flew around below the ceiling. Next, blades jutted out and slashed midair in beautiful arcs before being retrieved inside the bag. Lastly, Rain fell down before tapping on his wristwatch. Machine particles spread from the bag all over his body. It was like a thin armor. Red dots flickered on his helmet before his entire body slowly turned invisible!

“Bioengineering and Machinery.” Emanuel drummed his chest and his forehead raised. “And guess what, it’s not like your trashy Bioengineering inheritance!”

“75% and 89% respectively.”

“!!!” Aurora froze in shock! But she couldn’t help but laugh seeing his boasting expression.

“How can you have such an inheritance?” Aurora couldn’t believe it.
