Chapter 2
Blood,Death,Reality
“This is your
first mission isn’t it?” said the man that looks like in his 30s,with a smile
on his face yet his eyes telling other around him that he is always on the watch
“don’t worry if something came close then our pesky ranger Clink will tell us”
with a clear expression of mocking shown within his face
“its rude for
someone like you to say Buld,but i cannot argue that its true,don’t worry kid,i
will know if a monster came close,just stick with us” said the man with bow and
quiver filled with arrow companied with relieving tone
A voice rise
up from a priest which in her hand holding a staff with a cross at the top “Stop
it you both,your story is not going to help,better shut up and stop scaring the
boy”
“oya,Kamiel
to be so rude... are you attracted to young boys,because not everyday you will
act like this” Buld said with one of his eyes closed and while looking at the
priest, “and you kid,not everyday you can see a plate mail,it must cost alot to
get your hand on it” he said while looking at chris with concerned face
Chris averted
his eyes before answering “someone gifted it to me as parting gift” then he
look straight again “eventually i didn’t know what is his reason,afterall a
gift is still a gift” He said as he smiled and knocking his armor to make sure
its tight put on his body
A brief laugh
heard among the party of adventurer as they walked to their destination,a quest
to exterminate monster that reside on a cave nearby a village,intentionally
they are just scouting party,if the mosnter was weak and able to be taken
down,they will,but if its too strong they will return and the guild will submit
a request for higher rank adventurer,in both end they will got payment,for what
they did
Clink signal
the party to stop with his hand telling that a monster is near “this is the
cave,i can tell from the foul smell,unfortunately the floor is also stone,no
tracks,shall we go in” as he look to the party while asking the obvious
question to the rest of the group
“that’s our
job afterall,we must go in,Clint lit the torch,Chris and i will be Vanguard,if
anything happens i’ll hold and you all run,clint if the monster big,you must
immobilize him with arrow,Kamiel you cast protection spell when i told to,and
Chris,you do your best and just flow with it,let your instict flow” Buld gave
the instruction in such detailed aspect to the whole group while leading the
way with his axe on his one hand and his shield with torch on the other “we
move”
As the party
walks into the cold cave deeper ,bones are starting to be seen a sign of
carnivore beast eating local wildlife and possibly another monster
“ogre,and
maybe goblin,probably that is what we are dealing with,numbers should be
few,judging from the wall scratch”Clink said while examining the surrounding
wall and ceiling of the caves “here it comes,goblins,number maybe 15”He said
again as the footsteps gets closer and closer
“Brace
yourself chris,don’t let them pass through”While he buckle his shield and axe
to front “Kamiel stay behind,Clink,don’t let anyone pass through us” as he
whisper last command as the goblins approach
One by one
approaching goblins are taken down by arrows,those who came close are killed by
Buld axe or Chris sword,15 goblins are nothing,especially in cramped place,but
caves are different it makes their number advantages disappear and must face
the enemy one by one,making them weak and easy to be killed
“do you get
any wound” Buld asked as the battle turns off and the goblin corpses laid in the
cave “if not then cut the goblin ears,we can exchange it for money at the
guild,each goblins killed worth 3 copper,we will cut the share once back in the
town”
Chris nodded
as he cuts the goblin ears,he indeed got some attack and the goblin land hits to
its body,but thanks to the armor,the hit is absorbed,either thanks to the armor
or the goblins poor weapon quality,as their weapons usually scraps thrown by
adventurer,a poison that feed the enemy to became stronger, a problem caused by
the nature of human itself
Chris hand
trembles as he cuts the Goblins ear,bloods fill his hands his pupil shows he is
shocked “do i just kill something” he said as he was shocked,traumatized “i
just killed a living creature” with his face full of disbelief and tears holding
at his eyes he look at the rest of the party “Answer me!!”
Buld grab him
and stood him up then punched him in the face “why now,why after you kill
them,why you even go to the guild at the first place” he look at Chris once
again “face it this is our fate,we are no nobles nor schoolar,we are just
peasant trying to live our live and we ]must kill to do it” he said with face
full of seriousness “we will press forward,if you are not ready then go back to
the city,take all the ears,consider it as your share if”
“shh you hear”
as clink said such it a trembling follows,the earth shake,and the party rush
outside the cave and soon Buld screamed through his breath “RUUUN!” following
his instruction the party runs towards the road leading to the city
“What is it”
ask chris
“Fire giant”
said Buld
“What is that
thing” as he screams once again while keeping his pace with the party
“A big fiery
creature that is so damn honor based,we probably crossed his territory but damn
that’s not important we have to run no way we can defeat it,wait we can but its
hard so we run”
“Buld.... its
coming close,this one is fast,do something”
“Alright...
Kamael,enchance me,after that run,drag that boy along,don’t let him stay....ITS
AN ORDER”
“why now....”
“ITS AN ORDER!!”
“Protection
of fall,Flame Cloak,Physical redemption,Greater Life Essence,Fleeting Feet......
thats all i can do”
“Now all of
you run,i will buy us time...
This is the harsh reality of our job....Berserker....Destroyer
Bash”
Along with
that shout Buld rushes his body to the fire giant bashing its axe to its feet
making the giant loses its balance,but not for long the giant regains its balance,as
his fate is sealed as death was certain and he knows all will happen when he
charged,the rest of the party fled to the town while Buld fend off the giant,a
sacrifice he did,to let other life on....
Indeed the
party reached the town,depressed and exhausted,the lose of a leader is such a
blow of morale,kamael cries,and clink shows only sorrowful face
Chris stood
at the tavern table on the corner,such reality hits him,that no comfort will
come to him
“Why am i
still alive,.... if he doesn’t die there... then none of us will.... will i
even make it out alive tomorrow....”
