3rd POV

 

In a room filled with numerous monsters submerged in a tub of green liquid, a girl stood before a large tub. She inspected what appeared to be a report detailing the behavior of the monsters in front of her. Giving it a nod of approval, she then muttered while smiling,

 

"Soon, my dream will come true. Soon..."

 

Z City

Rena POV

 

*BOOM*

 

Nyan caused a spark with his claw, igniting nearby gas and causing an explosion.

 

"Are you trying to block my vision, Nyan?" I glanced around, attempting to locate Nyan with my senses. Quickly, I looked downward and spotted Nyan attempting to touch my feet. Reacting swiftly, I leaped high, only to see Nyan also jumping high in an attempt to reach my feet. Surprised, I teleported myself to the ground and promptly looked upward. However, Nyan was nowhere to be seen. Suddenly, I sensed something approaching from the left and swiftly dodged. Nyan unleashed several slashes at me, but I easily evaded them.

 

"Is that all you've got, Nyan?" I taunted, evading his attacks effortlessly. Several minutes passed, stretching into an hour, until finally,

 

"I give up," Nyan declared, raising both his cat arms. Then he continued, "You didn't even use your psychic power." Nyan shrugged and reverted to his cat form, leaping onto my head and promptly falling asleep without a care.

 

"Feeling sleepy, Nyan?" I inquired as I began walking.

 

"Yeah, I'm a little tired. Just let me sleep on your head until we reach home," Nyan replied. Hearing that, I smiled and agreed, "Okay~"

Several minutes have passed since I started my walk. But unexpectedly, I encountered someone unexpected.

 

"You must be Amanozako Rena, correct?" A handsome young man with blue hair addressed me. I was momentarily shocked before responding, "Yes, that's me. Do you need something?"

 

'I forgot that Amai Mask would pay a visit after learning there's a new S-rank hero in the association. Though I've seen him wandering around Z City a few years ago,' I thought.

 

"I'm Amai Mask, Class A Rank 1," Amai Mask introduced himself, glancing at the cat on my head. "Is that your cat? It's as cute as you," he remarked with a warm smile, brushing his hair aside.

 

'IS HE HITTING ON ME?' I wondered.

 

"I heard you were certified as a Class S by the association," Amai Mask continued, still smiling warmly.

 

"Yeah, so?" I replied blandly. Amai Mask momentarily broke his smile before letting out a small chuckle. "This is my first time hearing that kind of response from the opposite gender."

 

"Is that so?" I responded, tilting my head.

 

"*cough* Anyway, I'm here to congratulate you on joining the Heroes. How was the exam?" Amai Mask asked, adjusting his speech and posture.

 

"They were a piece of cake," I answered, blandly again.

 

"Hmm, I see," Amai Mask said, extending his hand to me. "I welcome you to the team, Amanozako-kun." I reciprocated by stretching my hand and shaking his.

 

"I expect great things from you," Amai Mask said, tapping my shoulder before walking away.

 

"Okay...?" I watched Amai Mask's figure until he vanished from view, then continued my walk back home. With only silence, I continued my journey. A few moments later, Nyan finally broke the silence.

 

"That was an awkward meeting, I should say. Also, his face irritates me for some reason," Nyan spoke from the top of my head.

 

"Hey Nyan..." I halted my steps.

 

"Hmm?" Nyan replied, looking at my face from the top of my head.

 

"I've actually been thinking a lot about this. About the words you spoke, about joining the Heroes..." I spoke my gaze drifting downward.

 

"Hmm~" Nyan stepped down from my head and transformed into his humanoid form. "At that time, I only sought enjoyment, so I consented to join the Heroes. You see, Nyan, my life lacks joy, so I relentlessly pursue it. Playing with them is undeniably enjoyable. Despite Saitama's occasional oddities, susceptibility to taunting, and his baldness... playing with him brings joy. Genos desires to be his disciple and holds him in high regard, much like he does with me. He's overly serious and fixated on strength, yet he, too, is delightful to interact with. As for Bang-Sama, though our encounter was brief, I can imagine numerous enjoyable moments with Saitama and Genos."

 

I then turned to Nyan with a tender smile and continued, "It's also immensely gratifying to spend time with you. Despite your occasional grumpiness and frustration towards me, I understand the best, that it's for my own well-being. I harbor no regrets about our friendship; you are my closest companion in this world. And as for Black Sperm, though he's been distant lately, he remains my first and dearest friend."

 

Facing forward, I looked up at the sky. The sun had disappeared, leaving only the radiant glow of the moon. "Tat-Chan holds a special place in my heart. Through her, I've experienced emotions I never thought possible. My life has been transformed since meeting you all—Black Sperm, Tatsumaki, Saitama, and Genos. My soul resonates with myriad emotions, shaping me into who I am today. I've come to realize that I am the happiest I've ever been. That's why I've decided it's enough. I'll put an end to this pursuit of pleasure and begin earnestly considering my origins."

 

Glancing at my right palm, I spoke softly, "Though it may bring me sadness, I've had my fill of joy. Perhaps I'll regret this decision, perhaps I'll long to turn back time, but it's time to stop. It's time to embark on a journey to the place where I truly belong." I clenched my right hand tightly before turning to meet Nyan's gaze. Seeing my expression, Nyan's eyes widened in understanding.

 

Tears welled up in my eyes as I whispered, "Hey Nyan... I'm ready to follow the path where I belong." Hearing this, Nyan's smile widened.
