"First choose a fitting container, then fill it with a base, with the recipe of a basic healing potion I will use a small vial and water. You obviously want everything to be clean, impurities will immensely lower the effectiveness of the potion and can even stop its effect completely.
Next, you add the ingredients, these could be anything, but usually, it should be herbs, mushrooms, and monster cores. The timing is equally as important as the temperature. Add the ingredients in the correct order and water temperature and adjust them as you go. When adding the ingredients, you need to dissolve them using your mana, it takes very little mana but high control over it, that is why everyone could eventually become an Alchemist with enough practice. For this basic healing potion, we only need these two herbs, pay attention to the water temperature, timing, and my mana while I do this."
To me who is seeing this for the first time, and doesn't even have any Magic Circuits, it looks like she is just staring at the vial in full concentration while adding the herbs very slowly.
"Once all ingredients are dissolved, you either have to keep it heated up for a little while or just let it cool, the recipe will tell you. We are done here so I'll just put this vial on the holder and let it cool down.
Most potions have a grading of F to SSS similar monster cores, but they also have a purity grade, an F grade healing potion with a purity of 90% is better than a D grade healing potion with 5%-10%, so don't let anyone fool you when someone just tells you the grade and not the purity of a potion! The recipe decides which grade the potion has and the execution and ingredients decide its purity. Also, you shouldn't have a problem once you get the [Appraisal] skill, if you have enough experience grading even a single potion type the skill will start showing the purity for all types of potions."
Walking over to a shelf with incredibly thick books, she picks out a few, handing them to me.
"For now, you should memorize these if you want to know the basics of alchemy along with a few recipes."
You say that but after you stacked these books on my hands, I can't even see you anymore!
"This- H-how many pages are these?"
"These shouldn't be too much, maybe about 10,000 pages in total?"
"Maybe I'm not made for alchemy, I should just quit right now..."
"What are you saying? Where did your enthusiasm go? How can you give up with only such a small task, this shouldn't take more than 1-2 days!"
I miss the old Silvia, the timid Silvia, the blushing Silvia. Oh, old Silvia where did you go? Why did you leave me behind? Why do I have to suffer all alone?!
"While you read them, I'll prepare some practice sets for you, if you put your all into this I'm sure we can get you up to par in no time! You might even start making potions here in 1 or 2 weeks! Mm!"
No, why are you nodding so proudly?!
"Actually, I just remembered I had to do something really important!"
"What do you mean? Your training just started!"
"I'm sorry! I really have to hurry back!"
I quickly pick up my armor, sword and put the books in my trusted potato sack, and run out.
"I'll be sure to read these until next time, bye!
"Hey! Stop right now! Stay here!!"
Hah, even if I'm like this Silvia has no chance to stop me with my superior stats! Strategic retreat success!
* * *
"..."
I'm lost.
I trusted my stats too much, I thought I would be able to remember where I exited the forest. But it all looks the same to me!
"Fuck!"
No, even cursing can't remedy this situation. I need to find an actual solution.
I already know. If the intelligence stat fails me, all I have left is my luck stat.
This place looks good enough for me, Mm! Here I come Black Devil Forest!
Let's avoid as many monsters as possible, fighting only slows me down in this situation.
* * *
T-this, just where did I go wrong?!
Name | Golden Fury Ape |
Level | 730 |
Magic | 2,000 |
Strength | 25,000 |
Defense | 20,000 |
Agility | 25,000 |
Intelligence | 400 |
Luck | 3,000 |
Huge! Scary!
It either didn't notice me yet or doesn't care about me. I should use my chance and escape quietly.
But just as I thought that, the beast turns around and looks at where I stand, or rather it looks directly at me!
I quickly dash away with all the strength I can gather in my legs!
Crash!
The monkey brain is ignoring the trees in the surroundings while chasing me, at least they somehow slow him down a bit.
"Shit! Shit! Shit!"
Even slowed he is extremely fast, I'm managing to evade his slams for now but I don't know how long I can continue this. Is this my end?? Where did all my luck go?! Curse you, fake stats!
"GRWAAAAAH"
The monkey brain seems quite angry for not being able to kill me yet, I expected as much just looking at his name.
"Fuck!"
I messed up, in front of me is a clearing with a stone hill. This wouldn't have happened if I had that stupid mapping skill!
<You acquired the [Map] skill.>
"NOW?!"
During my frustration, the monkey jumps ahead of me and lands on top of the hill on the side facing me. But falls down, no, flies away. Eh?
The stones where he landed fall down, opening a cave entrance. THIS!
I quickly dash into the cave, full of hopes and expectations~
magic circuits get! trace on!
It's time to add servants it seems
@GodlessEmperor only if they r a multipurpose cool butler!
I really hope MC won't quit life on Earth. I meant, fantasy girls are nice, but Earth girls in harem novels are nice too.
No such plans, on the main timeline. Once I feel better I wanna write a few extra chapters with "what ifs" where that can happen, but the canon story wont have that happen. :)
You write interestingly. It is pleasant to read. MC lives in the modern world and has a house surrounded by forest. This black forest is a different world? That's how I understood it.
Thank you~! Yes he has a house in the real world that is connected to a house in the fantasy world. The house in the fantasy world is surrounded by a forest. As I'm still setting up the character I couldn't write too much of the real world yet, but I plan on doing that soon hopefully :)
When will mc get the magic
Today
Hermoso TFTC
Did he just.. stole those books?
Once again, increase in read count, and decrease in hearts. Coincidence?
Edit: no. No coincidense whatsoever. While previous chapter was bad - this one is FAR worse.
The m.c is sooo beta. I don't want to read about a bit*h who can't handle a women.....it's annoying...and this writing lacks any reasoning.
Really? Can you explain where reasoning is lacking? If it's something I can change I'll try to improve things.
@GodlessEmperor its the m.c and his agency. Why not just abandon earth or atleast the social obligations entirely? Why is he so stuck on following the story? We had one reason that it was to keep his knowledge of the future ,however the worth of that isn't much and already been busted by his actions. Also he is acting way too much like a dense m.c that right there is the straw for me. I don't mind him not f*cking everything he could, but being flustered by a set of tits is annoying and childish.
@Chaddts Hmm I think it's hard to abandon earth completely. The other side of the gate is immovable in the house and having someone else live there would be somewhat problematic. Also, earth has many uses for him right now. Yes, he could abandon social obligations but if he ever decides for whatever reason that he wants to return to having a regular social life he would have a hard time getting that.
I think I wrote it somewhere (don't quote me on that) that he only wants to visit high school and after that decide to throw away earth/normal life for good or not. Humans tend to fear change inherently, he is no different. That's why I put a compromise of a buffer time for high school. I think that's much more realistic considering normal human psychology.
Yes, his knowledge of the future is pretty much useless. Chapter 11 is actually the last time he really uses it/can use it/follows a major event. (don't quote me on this either, I have a horrible memory)
Since I'm gathering points, I want to improve on the final version/reboot anyway I'll put your points on the bucket list too. There is a lot of stuff I couldn't convey as well as I wanted to or simply missed in this version.
Now the dense/beta thing, I'll have to be a bit more defensive on this point. I can't do much about it, I know I'm still horrible at writing conversations but I don't think I ever had him be flustered over tits. He gets dumbfounded by people a few times but not flustered. There are few exceptions when skills/magic are involved, but not by tits. By Silvias enthusiasm for learning, sure. But not tits. He also isn't dense by any means. But if you think doing anything on a first encounter is a good idea, that's rapist behavior, our MC isn't a rapist. I don't plan on writing a psychopath. s*x aside, even implying a relationship at this point is just being a total creep. Sure, at the 2nd or 3rd time meeting when everyone had enough time to think about things, but not instantly. At least, that's what my common-sense dictates (e-dating dates and bar/club pickups don't count because the intention is different from a random encounter.)
About "f*cking everything", that's plain unrealistic even by a far stretch. I might write a few "what if"s at some point though, like the author of re:zero(?) did.
So yeah, I've written down the first points but the character thing I really can't change into that direction.
Thanks for the feedback. (I'm honestly grateful I haven't gotten any "ooga booga story trash gay puke" comments/critique)
@GodlessEmperor ill add a bit of real life experience...I have had only 3. 1st dates out of a dozen or so that didn't end up with sex. I'm 31 yes my name is Chad and i'm not even bragging. That just how things go.. I can't even count the number of random hookups etc and I'm rather introverted at that, just online dating got me a few multi year relationships and a wife and plenty of women. I find that for more normal than him being flustered by the merchant guilds antic...a women wouldn't even do that if she sensed a man...she only does that to mess with little boys.. and yes I meant run away because he didn't even follow up with the guildmaster which would be the natural thing to do. I sure as hell wouldn't take advantage of that favor with an unknown price tag.. seems like trouble that I'd either avoid by returning the card or confront to hash out details...besides all that why is he so adamant on not just going to the gaurds and getting an i.d???? Seems like he is causing himself issues....and yes running away from books like that was beta and cringe..very very cringe. He could of just manned up. But no he ran away like a little bit*h... none of reactions and decisions were normal at all they felt very contrived and not the kind of m.c I would read about...more like a compilation of fails....and his attachment to this earth life is meaningless because it's not his personal life but rather the body he took over. And I find it far more likely to leave earth during high-school than after. After is fun! during is bullcrap. Not a chance anyone would stick around to do those tests etc...hire a property manager and deposit some cash then dip out on an adventure after dropping out of school. He doesn't have yo even pursue either women at all. But being scared/naive/ shy/ passive like he is is just typical beta behavior. He isn't even honest with the alchemy chick. He just ran away. Cause books....yet he intended to go through japanese hish school when he only now speaks the language??? Can he even write it? Read it?? There are some serious issues that just annoyed reader finds..I think the current m.c lacks far too much confidence. To the point I'd consider it beta. Who gets so intimidated by tips he doesn't even notice the card in his hand??? And right infront of the alchemy chick no less???? Very cringe to not even have that level of control..
@Chaddts Ooh, you meant the Merchant guild thingy. I forgot that it was before chapter 10 so I thought you meant one of the other girls. That one wasn't even because of the guild master but had another reason. This sounds like a generic excuse but "this is a fantasy novel, there are fantasy elements not shown and explained all the time". That will be explained at a later time when more interactions happen there.
About the ID... yeah, that's my mistake when I wrote it. That part has a big change planned. Though it won't affect this version probably.
"His life" vs. "The life he took over" is another topic for later chapters. But as I've hinted (somewhere) it's not that simple. Again, not everything is explained, because not having anything to think about would be boring imo. Things are hinted at correctly though.
I'm sorry about your school life.
He doesn't have to take the tests seriously though. Other than tests school is pretty chill. It's one of the best places to make friends for most people too.
He can write and read fine, as shown and explained before.
I think he doesn't lack confidence but rather is realistic/careful. This is his only life. Being rash will kill him.
I think we can agree that some points are about my mistakes and some points are about your expectations. Nothing wrong with that. We just seem to have a different taste in the level of immersion for stories.
Edit: On a side note, your personal life experience has little value for this. Let's say I assume You're from the US, the lower average of relationships of a person is 1-2 while the upper average is 10-11. In the EU its lower avrg 1 and upper avrg 4-5. In Japan its lower avrg 0-1 and upper avrg 2-3. Obviously in everywhere you have the >1% that has 15+ relationships in their life. So yeah, it's both different depending on where you come from/live in, and per individual.
