Chapter 7: Redemption

“Everyone has done something wrong in their lives

It had been a ploy. We had fooled Brody into thinking that Elise and I were on enemy sides. The knife? Retractable. The meetings daily? I sent her off before she left. The Renzutzu meetings with the Shogun? She had known about it, all along. Elise was always on my side. We knew Brody would betray us. And we were ready. The reason we let him beat us was because this tournament was yearly. All we had to do was beat him for good on Earth after getting back next year, and he wouldn’t ever come back. Tournament winners could not compete in the contest again, since they already had one chance at a new life, and they died again. We had to get back.
