When I finally woke up, I almost died of brightness.

‘Who the fuck turned up the brightness setting?’

“Good morning Eve. Gosh, you are just as cute in the morning, as you were when you’re sleepy in the evening yesterday.” I could hear Arisa drooling over my cuteness again.

‘Am I really that cute?’

“G-good morning…” I answered still sleepy.

“You really should wake up, because today you are going to assigned a duty as one of the maids.”

‘The cockthinker is finally going to assign me a duty as one of the maid assistants.’

After getting out of bed and feeling significantly better, I got a command.

“Follow me.”

So I did as she said and followed her. When we finally reached a room, which if I had to guess was an office, Arisa knocked on the door.

“Who’s there?” I heard a voice ask.

“Arisa. I have brought the named demon fox.”

“Good, come in.”

“Excuse us.” Arisa opened the door which led to a room with a writing desk and lots of bookshelves. The cockthinker is sitting on a chair, but behind him I can see another shadow.

“Come out, no need to be scared. She is the same age as you.” He told the shadow behind him.

“My lord, I don’t think that’s the problem. Your daughter might just be shy.”

“I’m not shy!” I saw the shadow leave and here stands a girl that ‘looks’ the same age as me. She looked to be around eleven years old.

“She is the lord’s daughter, her name is Elise.” Arisa introduced her to me.

“I’m Eve.” I introduced myself normally.

“She just said that her name is Eve.” Arisa translated everything that’s been said.

‘She is going to be doing a lot of translating then.’

“What is my duty?” I asked Arisa, because that’s why we came here.

“Ah, yes.” She realized why we were here and turned towards the cockthinker.

“My lord, what is the duty that is to be assigned to Eve?”

“Her duty is to help my daughter in demonic language studies whilst learning human herself.”

“I have a question my lord.”

“What is it?”

“Why don’t you assign me to help your daughter?”

“Because you are the only one who can speak with the elves, although for now you will be helping Eve and Elise.”

“I understand that. Shall I begin immediately?”

“Yes, the faster the better.”

“Understood.” She turned to me.

“We are going to teach you human language and help Elise learn demonic.”

“Okay.” I answered as shyly as always to maintain my image.

After I got assigned my duty as Elise’s helper, we walked into a huge library with even more books. I got excited just from looking at them.

“Amazing, isn’t it! This is my dad’s library!” Elise started bragging, gladly I can’t understand what she is saying. I was so excited, that I could feel my tail wagging.

“Looks like someone’s happy~” I heard Arisa mumble in demonic, then I realized that I was wagging my tail like a puppy that was happy. I became as red as a tomato.

“Don’t worry, Elise doesn’t know what’s happening.”

“Why would I care about her knowing?”

“That’s because she would definitely be making fun out of you.”

“Come oooon. What are you talking about in demonic?”

“Nothing, just explained her some things.” Arisa smiled awkwardly and grabbed a book from the shelf.

“Let’s try to learn something today, shall we?”

“Okay.” I answered at the same time as Elise. After that we kept learning, I tried learning human, meanwhile Elise tried demonic. Human language is hard, I couldn’t even understand the letters and what they mean, the same was happening to Elise also.

“Seems like it’s going to be hard for you two.”

We kept trying hard until evening and we had to rest for the night. Honestly, I could go even longer, but I was feeling exhausted and sluggish, so I decided against it. Arisa told another maid to help Elise, while she took me back to where she slept.

“You can get in the bed with the dress, I’ll be joining you in a bit.” And she left the room, I started rethinking everything I did today.

‘Human language is actually very hard, it’s as if an English speaker tried learning Chinese. It’s not impossible, but it’s hard as hell itself.’ As I was rethinking everything, Arisa suddenly popped up besides the bed and scared me so bad, I thought my soul itself jumped out of my body.

“Hello!” She hugged me.

“Kyaaaaa!” I screamed at the top of my lungs.

“Sorry, I didn’t know you would be so easily scared.” She starting petting me.

‘This feels oddly good.’ Just like that, whilst being pet like a cat, and in her hands, I dozed off into the dream land again like last time.

I woke up the next morning earlier than Arisa, when I looked to the right side, I found her sleeping next to me. That was when the door opened and the maid No.1 entered.

“Wake her up.” She commanded to me, me who couldn’t understand a thing she said was just sitting in the bed. I decided to wake Arisa up regardless.

“Huh? Oh, it’s just you, Eve…” She was mumbling something in gibberish again, I tried harder. When she looked towards the door her face went as white as a sheet.

“Ah! I’m sorry! I’ll get ready in a flash!” She started panicking.

“Calm down. Since today you have a free day, I was going to ask you to go shopping in the neighboring city.”

Arisa’s face lit up like a Christmas tree.

“Can I take Eve also?”

“That goes without asking, since you’re the only one who can look after her you are forced to take her with you.”

“Roger that!” Arisa shouted back to the maid No.1 and the same maid left.

I, of course, didn’t understand a single thing.

After Arisa was done changing, she decided to translate everything that happened here.

“She said that today we’re going shopping to the neighboring city, of course I’m taking you with me.”

“Okay.” Was all I could say.

Arisa took it quite slowly, she took half an hour to get ready for departing. When we were finally outside, she had a list of what is needed at the mansion. Once I stepped outside, the terrible stench hit me again.

“Are you alright?” Arisa asked me.

“There is something that smells terrible.”

“Oh, I don’t know what that could be.” Then she rummaged through a bag she had on herself and pulled out a light blue piece of fabric and tied it around my neck as a ribbon.

“There. Let me explain, you are a demon fox, and no matter what, are you a named demon fox or a normal demon fox. You have to wear something around your neck that would indicate you belong to someone. Whether it would be a slave collar or this ribbon I just tied.”

‘Tch, I have to wear something that would indicate whether I’m wild or tamed? Tch fucking humans.’

Suddenly I heard a voice near my right ear.

“Kill, kill all these humans and take their life.”

Another by my left ear.

“Oh, I so envy those humans. They can do whatever they want and get away with it.”

It was getting cloudy in my eyes and I started feeling weak.

“Eve?” Arisa asked.

“Eve? Are you alright Eve?” Arisa asked me again.

“What is happening Eve?” Arisa was getting scared.

I clutched my head, I felt my nails have regrown again and were even sharper than previously. Suddenly I felt pain in my bottom lip and something warm started dripping, I must’ve bit it.

“Eve! Are you alright!?”

“Heh, heh, he.” I started to laugh sinisterly.

“Eve? You’re scaring me.”

I turned to her, all I could see was dark clouds around Arisa, suddenly someone spoke.

“Oh, I’m so envious. I’m so envious I could kill everyone here!” Then I realized that it’s my own voice.

“What are you talking about?”

That was when I started getting back to myself, everything was as clear as day and I could hear everything that Arisa is saying.

“Eve? What just happened?”

“I-I… I don’t know…”

“Suddenly everything just went dark and cloudy, it was scary. I wasn’t myself.” I explained.

If only for a brief moment, if only for a second, I saw Aria’s face turning into an evil smile.

“I see, it’s hunting season soon.” I could her whisper, but I picked it up clearly.

‘I need to run away from this place as fast as possible.’

“Now that you have come back, let’s go shopping.” She suggested to me with her usual smile.

“Okay.”
