Chapter 10 – Final Act

Woosh. Was this how it feels to fly? The exhilaration! Wind wafting against my skin. The woody texture of the handle. And the smoldering passion surging like waves of scorching flames!

It was the best! I AM THE BEST!

I became liberated! My limbs resembled boneless snakes swimming along the currents! This was my world! Only in this vacuum of space, I could fully use my ‘talent’!

My feet landed on the ground. Fast and sharp. His bodyguard hadn’t reacted in time. My blade swung in a circle and his hands helplessly clutched his neck.

A salivating bright red covered the two of us—me and Daimon. His expression told me he got stumped. Maybe the current information hadn’t filled his brain yet. Good for me because I won’t stop from just killing a crony. Thus, I brandished my blade once again.

I saw the terror in his eyes. He didn’t expect it, right? Right??? Oh, I loved it! It should be like this! All of my cells celebrating! Every dog had its own day! Today was mine, and his life was mine to claim!

Pshk.

Blood spurted like a fountain. The terror in his eyes increased by ten folds. I could even sense the gurgling sound of liquid foaming in his mouth. It should be a satisfying sight. Finally, I had my revenge. Yet, a question struck me hard.

“Why is it too easy?”

It shouldn't be easy, I knew. The world made me learn it every day. Hence, what got transcribed before me was rather disturbing.

An intense panic gripped my chest. Never I’ve been in this situation. My body responded by instinct as if I had experienced these countless times.

BANG!

“Shit!” Cursing out loud, I threw myself to the ground. But despite my adeptness, the explosion that seems to engulf everything, even sound, scalded my back. A long groan escaped my mouth.

Loud horns and consecutive breaking of glasses surrounded my senses. And yet, despite the raging situation, a large shadowy figure emerged amidst the inferno, growing larger by second. This sent a shiver down my spine. How could someone be with him?

I looked up and saw a man striding towards me. He wore a long overcoat, a red scarf encircling his neck, tight-fitting pants, and a handsome black rubber shoe. Such a man was a death-attraction to the opposite gender. Like the main lead in a romance story.

“NO! IMPOSSIBLE!!!” I didn’t know I could scream so much as if my lungs would burst out. Because there was no freaking way I would believe the one standing before me. He raised an object and pointed it at me. The cool barrel displayed a murderous sheen. I gasped as cold sweat poured down like rivers despite the heat in the surroundings.

I peered back, seeing the melting skin of the supposedly dead ‘Daimon’, his true face appearing. Curses and bile mixed, the result of overeating before. It was too nauseating thinking I was mistaken once more; It was too embarrassing to be outwitted repeatedly.

“Still a stupid lowlier than a cockroach, aren’t you?” Daimon teased. He resembled a Flame Emperor as the fire danced around him.

One step, two steps. He stopped right above me and leaned closer so that the gun rested on my skull. “Your story is already over and I’m satisfied. You should’ve holed up and been who you are.”

My eyes became bloodshot. I wanted nothing to tear this bastard into pieces. Suddenly, my mind played a scenario. My head flicked away the gun from his hands. Two hands pushed up, and I saw my enemy’s widened eyes. I sneaked behind him. It was a seamless move, no lie. As if I have practiced it countless times. My arms snaked around him, wrapping his head and body.

Fuuu. I exhaled, feeling his thrashing legs and seeing the bulging veins on his side face. I could even imagine how purple his face was. This was more refreshing than slicing the other’s neck. How euphoric!

A clap of sound woke me up. The upside-down world was all I could see.

Hiya! A shout became behind me and a force full-packed of power punched me in the back. I could hear the cracks–my spine! I gritted my teeth and put my legs firmly stuck in the ground. Along with a brief burst, I endure the gut-wrenching pain as I assaulted Daimon with unimaginable speed.

First with a chop. My foe flinched and, using that moment, I bodied him with my knee. I used his body as a platform and tangled around him. This time, I wrapped my legs around his neck. With two arms raised heads up, I pummeled his brain till mush while choking him to death with my legs.

The anger and hatred burst out like cannons. I wanted him to die! I wanted to kill him!

But then, my mind went blank. The smell of the earth roused me from a daze. The cold barrel was still leaning on my head.

I could still feel it… see it… the previous experience! And yet, it disappeared…

Goosebumps popped all over my body. Was it just a dream? Am I daydreaming even in this situation? So, I was just insane, damn it!

And then, while I am questioning my sanity, I saw Daimon smirking.

“So, that’s how you are going to kill me.” These words destroyed my entire being. I felt naked being seen by those beautiful but soulless black eyes. He was looking at me with wild abandon. As if his interest got piqued again. “You amazed me once more!”

“Sorry, though. I just don’t like seeing my story ending with your narrative, that’s all.” And then, with a bang, my body flopped down.

Ten seconds. I was still alive within these minuscule ten seconds. My eyes scanned his entire body until I saw a bracelet pulsating with silver lights around his forearm. It was beautiful and bizarre, something I would seek if I’m still rich.

Rich, eh? Am I still thinking about riches? I’m a stupid, ugly fuck who didn’t even have a shred of talent! The last thing I could do was to get revenge and live free afterward. But everything got dashed!

Anger! Hatred! Sadness! I really regretted entangling with him!

And before my time ticked out, left with nothing but regrets, he left a dialogue that left me confused, even in my last breath.

“Sorry, Agent Simons. You have forgotten everything but still amazed me, even with that handicap. I thought seeing you suffer until you break is the last scene of this story. Still, too bad. I am the author. All I need is to rewrite everything.”

Then, the curtains of my story closed, at the same time, the lids of my eyes became shut.

End of Act 1.
