After all, while the chance of such an opportunity appearing in quick hand-to-hand combat was quite big, Sukuna still felt that something was wrong with the whole situation.

It's just that to his surprise and to the shock of all those who were watching, his attack actually landed on its target and also managed to do damage for the first time since the battle began.
