A freaking 50th floor! We actually went and skipped the forty floors! I know we were a bit overpowered for some enemies, but having that much of a skip, we can actually meet monsters much stronger than even the duke I struggled with!

Is the dungeon master insane? Sending us to a place that was practically our death sentence? Or was she just mad that we did something? I had no idea how we could anger the goddess managing this dungeon, but sending us that high really didn’t seem like a reward for me.

Unless the enemies here were weaker than I imagined, but that would be too optimistic for me to consider. Even though I lucked out of a lot of dire situations, it didn’t mean that my luck could go forever. Or could it? Maybe if I maxed out this luck skill…

Well, I’m sure there were adventurers with a lot of luck, that just didn’t get any lucky situations. Even if it would let me survive, it wouldn’t mean that my life would be successful. I could even end up in some shady company of weirdos that would do nothing but make things harder for me.

For example I could get a pervert to follow me, or a kid with mental disorder, or even worse a dumb girl that would constantly spend all my money on alcohol and while being useless blame everything bad that would happen on me?

No way, I didn’t want to end up like that. I already had a girl to take care for, so I didn’t need a party anyway. Not that I would find someone willing to adventure with a spider monster. Maxing out my luck would be a nice bonus, but I shouldn’t rely on it too much.

Now that we arrived at the middle of dungeon, as it had a hundred floors in total I had to find out exactly how bad was the spot we end up in. I left the girl waiting, since throwing her into a shadow again didn’t really make sense if there was safe spot even if she really wanted to stay with me.

I exited the cave, and noticed how different the area was from anything I saw on the lower floors. This time instead of forests, grasslands or swamps, we actually ended up on a rocky mountain, surrounded by even higher ones.

I was really stunned, and greatly confused by the view. The first one was because no matter how I looked at them, the mountains looked beautiful and majestic. The second one was because I didn’t have a slightest idea, how did they fit a whole mountain range inside a tree.

Well, the forest before had were trees inside a tree, so they were unusual too, but this was on a whole different level. I swear if the area was flattened, it would fit a small country, going by the view I had from our very high position.

Suddenly a gust of wind blew past me, nearly throwing me off balance, since I was standing at a relatively steep slope. I held to the ground and looked at what produced the gust. When I turned back to see it, I froze.

A large dragon, covered by a bronze colored scales, with spiked head, being bigger than any monster I’ve ever seen was looking at me, while hovering in air. I was at the edge of safe zone, so I shouldn’t be attacked by it, but it was still terrifying to look into its eyes.

What? Why did it fail? Well, it could be related to he fact that monsters didn’t really have skills, but there was other, more important matter at hand. Just how was I supposed to fight something like that? Was it a common enemy on this floor? Was it a boss?

Either way, I don’t think it would be possible to go any further without defeating it, since it seemed to be waiting for me to leave the safe zone. It didn’t do anything, it was just flying in place, while still looking right into my eyes.

[“Don’t leave the cave, no matter what.”]

I sent the message to Felicia, and still stood there stunned, too scared to move. I just hoped that this dragon would leave, but as the minutes passed, then nearly a hour, both of us still were in the same place as before. My heart was beating harshly, and I’m sure that I would be sweating from the stress if I was able to. My fear resistance leveled up three times!

I had no idea why didn’t I just go back to the cave, since it seemed like it couldn’t enter the zone. It was like I was glued to the rock I was standing on. Maybe it was a skill of this dragon, to prevent me from fleeing, making my only option to leave the zone, which was an actual possibility, since I was able to move a bit in the direction of the zone’s border.

Time kept passing, and I kept standing still while the dragon was hovering above me. I had no idea how long would this situation last, but then the dragon moved. It landed on what seemed to be invisible barrier, and then started scratching it with its claws.

Was it trying to rip the safe zone apart? Why was he so persistent? Was he that hungry? To my horror, the barrier started creaking. The dragon took visible damage though, but it didn’t stop it from digging further.

Finally, his hand got in, and he reached to grab me. This time, I couldn’t move in any direction, and he succeeded in catching me. A couple of seconds later, we were flying above the mountains, me being in its closed hand which had a smell of roasted meat since he got burned by the barrier.

Killed by a dragon, not a worst way to go I must say. Still, the cat might be sad if I don’t return.
