Some little snippets:
Raelynn leaned over, her hair brushing Kai’s shoulder, “C’mon, Kai!” she said quietly, “We can’t spend all day reading!”
Kai twitched uncomfortably, even after all this time they still had a hard time being in such proximity to someone. Sure, it was much better with Raelynn than anyone else- but there was still a long way to go until Raelynn was able to be so close to them without startling them.
Kai smiled and slowly leaned back onto Raelynn, “A little longer?” They whispered.
“Sure…” Raelynn looked back out into the ally the two of them were currently hiding in, “A little longer.”
Kai didn’t understand why Raelynn was so annoyed. They were just hungry- and hadn’t eaten anything in two days. “I’m just saying!” Kai was muttering, “If you hadn’t been so lazy about getting food from that guy yesterday- we would have some today!”
Raelynn’s eyes flashed “I wasn’t being lazy! I just didn’t want to punch some random old guy! Is that illegal? NO! Cause’ it is more illegal to punch an old guy!”
Kai wrinkled their nose- they hated it when Raelynn got angry- but it was sort of their fault… “I’m just so hungry…” They whimpered, pulling their knees up to their chest and fidgeting with the loose stones on the ground.
Raelynn dropped down next to them, “I know… and I’m sorry but- together?”
“Together,” Kai smiled slightly as the two of them cuddled away the hunger.
Maybe make it a fictitious location, as not to offend those that live there. This will also allow for fantasy elements.
And another escape story? Am i sensing a pattern?
Yeah, that's a good point. And- it's not too much like my last book- it's not really an escape story... yet sort of is. The protagonists actually have a goal this time. I got inspired by fanfiction for *Lams*. SO........ yep. I'm still figuring out a plot.
No Kai from the voice of a dragon and this Kai aren't the same. They are completely different. I just really like the name. Kai's (this one) dead name is 'Kylie' so it just made sense since they are nonbinary
