Fallen Angel 14

At the Yamashina family house, Hinata Yamashina was listlessly gazing at her father, Morita Yamashina, as he happily looked over the gaggle of scientists busy with their work below him. They were all scrutinizing a test being conducted from cameras connected to the monitors on their worktables.

The screens showed two test subjects, both male and female, bound by leather straps, and were laid down on hospital beds. On each test subject's bed, a list of data detailing their biological profile was hung on one of the legs. Each of them were forced to swallow an unknown pill. Not a minute later, the unthinkable happened. The two shrank, and appeared to become younger!

From the glass window, Morita clapped excitedly. He smacked his lips, and thought, 'What a miracle! So that Karasuma relic was not lying after all! But still…'

Although the two current test subjects survived, they were only two out of eighteen lab rats his subordinates caught as sacrificial lambs. The man and woman in their fifties now looked like they were in their teenage years. The two were apparently twins who were separated from birth. How his people got them, he did not know; but he was glad that they did, because Morita now had living proof of the secret to immortality that he longed for!

For more than decades, Morita was worried about the fate of his family. While the Yamashina technically still existed, he was the last male that was left. That meant that after his daughter Hinata was married, the family name died with him.

He tirelessly looked for a solution for this problem, but all the illegitimate children he made who survived more than a month from artificial inseminations were female!

Like that, time passed him by, and the now seventy five years old Morita was forced to give up his effort to revive the family's past glory. He silently suffered when his foolish daughter took on the name of her husband. A small flame of hope reemerged when Hinata divorced her husband and took back her maiden name, but that tiny ember was stuffed to death when she told him that she was already seeing someone else.

Out of nowhere, an old family friend contacted him. The old crow told Morita that if he did one thing they asked him to, he would receive the elixir of life in return. Skeptical, but too desperate to reject the request, Morita told his daughter to do it.

His doubt did not leave him even when he received the promised items. Not until now, at least. Morita wasted almost half of the drugs on guinea pigs. They all died, and his regained hope turned into bitter thought of vengeance against the Karasuma for giving him what's essentially a poison. But then, he was told about the rare case where the victim survived by one of Karasuma's lackeys.

The kid called Edogawa Conan that his daughter often mentioned nowadays was actually Shinichi Kudou, the famous high school detective! Emboldened by this fact, Morita once again sent his daughter to do the dirty deed, but now was to take a sample of blood from the kid. And it was wise of him, because now, he knew he had a chance to achieve his dream of reviving his family line!

Whatever it was that his subordinate found in the kid's blood, it was enough to decrease the mortality rate of the pills to zero!

His smile was impossible to remove at this moment!

But then, the impossible happened. His smile stiffened, an expression of shock took over. He slowly turned his head, and he felt his blood chilled from the sight in front of him.

Standing not five feet away, his daughter was breathing heavily, tears were running down her face. Clutched tightly in her hands was the family tanto, a foot long knife usually displayed on the hallway of the residence. The knife, her clothes, and the floor between them was covered in blood.

His blood.

Morita Yamashina wanted to scream, but all that came out was blood. The blade had pierced him right through his ribcage, into his lungs. The old man fell to his knees, his hands were holding his wound, as if desperately trying to stop the bleeding. As darkness slowly encroached his sight, he noticed someone came out from behind the bookshelf.

Someone who looked exactly like his daughter.

Someone who, looking at his dying smile, only smiled victoriously.

At the age of seventy five years old, the head of the Yamashina clan died, carrying his grief and regrets to his grave.

The two 'Hinatas' watched as the eyes of the elder Yamashina turned vacant, his soul left the bleeding body.

The one holding the knife dropped down to her knees, sobbing uncontrollably from what she just did. Meanwhile, the one who had a smile on her face reached out her right hand below her chin, and ripped open the mask she was wearing.

The crying Hinata looked over to the undisguised Vermouth.

"Please, you promise… Give Conan-kun back!"

She was pleading like her son was about to be murdered; and in a sense, that was exactly what Vermouth was threatening her with.

Hinata was someone who could not have any kids. She had checked with several doctors, and all of them judged her to be infertile. It was ironic, because anyone who knew her always described the plump woman as motherly.

So she cherished every child she came across. Even if they were naughty, Hinata had always managed to soften their hardheadedness. Then, she came to know Conan, the kid living with Kogoro and the Mouri family.

At first. Hinata treated him like any other child. It was later on that she realized the resemblance Conan had with her and her current lover, Kogoro. Somehow, looking at the boy was like looking at the son she and Kogoro would have had if she wasn't barren.

Now, she did not know where the boy was. Vermouth had taken her son and threatened her with his life. The blonde woman had forced her to kill her own father!

Hinata could not stop the tears rolling down her face, feeling something broken inside of her.

Looking at the grieving daughter, Vermouth closed her eyes and let out a tired sigh, before she leaned down and whispered to Hinata.

"...Once your lover finds out about your father's deed, the two of you would be glad that he is now dead. And don't worry about the kid-" Vermouth paused for a moment to look at her phone, and then resumed her sentence.

"-he is with that damned detective. And-"

Hinata was about to bolt to where Kogoro and Conan were then, when Vermouth grabbed her shoulder and told Hinata to slow down.

"Clean yourself first! I'll handle everything else."

While what the blonde said was for her own good, Hinata did not give her any response. She shrugged Vermouth's hand off, then left the room without looking back.

Now alone, with only a cooling corpse as her company, Vermouth's gaze turned cold as she began the second phase of her task: taking over the Yamashina family.
