So like, Author here, Like I feel conflicted here man. Like this story is called Might of Magic, but there is practically no "magic"!.
I mean yeah its summoning magic, but like the mc isn't like shooting firebolts or anything. Like I think its fine that an mc is a skilled user of summoning magic, but this was supposed to be a story about "MAGIC", like not npcs fighting for the mc. Any fight I write about, will be in regarding to a summon fighting and what skills it may have. And since mc power is not too high yet, most summons don't use any heavy lifting "magic".
I wonder if I should change the title to "The Summoner" or something by this point.
On another note, I wonder if I should update the synopsis. In the beginning I was like, I dunno what I'm gonna write about except what is exactly in the synopsis right now, but now that this story has a more defined part to it, maybe I add more?
Anyways, I do like this story and what ideas I got for it, but I just feel a bit miffed that no one chose another magic type.
Ima probably just limit the future possibilities of the mc to strictly summoning from now on.
I think it really depends on how your class system works
So far, her progression has been:
Beginner Mage max lvl 5
Adept Mage max lvl 10
Summoner max lvl 20
High Summoner max lvl 40
Elite Summoner max lvl 80
If each class will have double max level than the previous, it would probably be better to stick with summoning, but if the classes possess something like ‘tiers’, with Beginner Mage being ‘tier 1’ and Elite Summoner being ‘tier 5’, with their max level and required EXP to level them depending on their tier, it would be better for her to finish the ‘tier 3’ and ‘tier 4’ classes too, as those are easier to level and she would get many more stat points and skills from them.
(I’m not counting the ‘tier 1’ or ‘Beginner’ classes, as their purpose seems to be to let you choose the class tree you will be limited to in your progression, but you might put ways to make it possible to select an additional path, like killing an adult dragon for the first time, conquering a legendary dungeon for the first time, or maxing a ‘tier 10’ class for the first time’)
Maybe after MC maxes out 'Elite Summoner', you could have her gradually progress each of the elementary magic classes to max level 'Adept' before going back onto the summoner's path?
She did complain about her lack of firepower. But there should be a poll for what magic it would be.
Instead of switching away from summoner there should be a branching of summoner type like there was between Mass summoner and Elite summoner. Maybe an evolution that gives them offensive abilities related to their life summons based on the summons tier and the other option could be the same except for defense.
give her a magic subclass after Elite Summoner lvl 80. That way she can keep her summoner class and have magic.
If you want to follow the summoner tree, maybe make it so the next step has offensive expendable summoning spells.
These spells doesnt count to her total summoning count/mp regen and are basically "one time summons" that do 1 thing and go away, they act like a spell, but are actually summons.
Exemple: in d3 witch doctors can "summon" spiders that deal damage and then after some time die, in poe theres a gem that summon flamming skulls that attack an enemy then die.
So maybe something along these lines?
Call say... a flamming jumping spider, for X mp (low cost probably), this spider jumps into an enemy, bites it, poisoning and dealing fire damage, then dies. or maybe, a burrowing centipede, that moves from under the ground and when under the target unborrows and coils around the targets legs, slashing it then despawning. For flying enemies, call for a swarm of wasps or hornets, that is a channeled spell? meaning as long as she is casting it they continue popping and flying to attack the enemy. for underwater maybe crabs and lobsters? even shrimps XD
I would suggest using arthropods for these spells, since we havent seen then being summoned randomly yet i think. so it would be a nice dynamic that arthropods are only called for these type of spells, and would fit very well into the story timing and current setting/arc.
Not to mention she was worried about aiming, with these expendable summoning creatures, she wont have to aim, she could be running, cast, say, the spider to her side or front and have it jump into whats chasing her.
For progression, either have it spawn more, or better version of these creatures as she levels the skills.
Yeah, its not a fireball spell, but a big flaming bug jumping into your face can be just as cool XD or terrifying... or just like Sigrum can call lighting down, maybe some fireflies that hover waaay above the targets and flash lighting down into the ground. lots of possibilities :P for balancing sake it probably wouldnt be as powerful as a proper spell for that, but it has way more versatility and ease of use.
oh yeah! in this situation she could maybe call big ass beatles to block 1 hit/spell and disappear, to help her in a defensive situation.
Make it so that her next class will give her some combat capabilities.
I personally feel that Cursemancer would work well with her summons as it would be able to debilitate the opponents.
I would also like for the MC to reach civilization soon.
Maybe after maxing out her to level 80, she could get the option of a sub-class like sage or enchanter(that can level up), while keeping summoner class.
maybe make the MC an evoker of sorts which is to say she can sort of merge with her summons and gain all their powers or link with them to only gain some but keep the summon around (you could make this a temporary merge which would just make the MC less useless combat wise or make it a more permanent merge or link which could make a good story mechanic since you could make the process of evoking be anything from saying a phrase or kissing and etc.)

Maybe have her gain the ability to use the magic of her life summons. I would be okay with changing the title to be summon related. Also I'm wondering when you'll justify having the GL tag on your story.
