After hearing everything Wei Yao said, Lin Zhong wasn’t in any mood to laugh though. He believed Wei Yao after everything he saw so far. He was currently processing it all and thinking about what it all meant.

There was silence for a full minute before Lin Zhong asked, "So? What happened? Why are you back here and a cultivator? What happened in the future?"

Wei Yao's expression dropped as he sighed before saying, "Hah. Some time from now, the spiritual qi on earth will experience a resurgence. Ultimately, the laws that currently govern society will lose their meaning. You and Liao Yun both died. But I survived. I grew stronger and got revenge for both of you."

Hearing about his own death Lin Hong paled and took a while to figure out his response, "I'm sure you don't plan on letting us die this time right?"

Wei Yao's face became solemn as he swore, "Don't  worry. With the knowledge and experience I have, I promise that not only will both of you not die, but I will also bring you both to immeasurable heights."

Hearing the phrase, ‘knowledge and experience’, Lin Zhong couldn't help but ask, "What did you do after we died?"

Wei Yao sighed before saying, "Too much to explain. But I'll say this. I kept on growing stronger and searching for ways to bring you two back."

Hearing this Lin Zhong felt his heart warm especially when he thought of how Wei Yao came back now.

He probably gave up everything he earned just to be together with us again.

Thinking all this through, Lin Zhong didn't try asking him anything else about his experiences and instead patted his chest before saying, "Okay! What do you want me to do?"

He had realized that the kid he used to take care of was now the person he needed to rely on, but they were still brothers so he was fine with it.

Wei Yao smiled, Just like I thought he would act.

"What I want you to do is help me grow and control my forces within the underworld and gangs. In order to achieve my goals, I need to quickly become stronger. And in order to do that, I need a lot of money to buy resources."

Lin Zhong agreed and then asked excitedly, "Sure, but can I become a cultivator too?!"

This was what he wanted to ask as soon as he knew cultivation was real. Anyone who heard that would have the same response. It just showed his patience for waiting until now.

Wei Yao nodded and said, "Yes," however he continued, "but not right now."

He didn't let Lin Zhong question him why as he then said, "You know how in all those novels it's important to build a strong foundation for cultivation? The same is true in the real world. Once I become stronger, I will help both you and Yun build the firmest foundations possible."

Hearing this and despite not asking any more questions he couldn't help but ask, "Just how powerful did you become?"

Wei Yao didn't want to make Lin Zhong look at him any more differently than he already did so he thought about hiding it, but in the end he decided to tell the truth to show that he wasn't keeping any secrets. There was no need to cause any problems over something that didn't even matter anymore.

He softly said, "I became one of the most powerful beings in this entire universe."

Hearing this Lin Zhong actually laughed but as he saw the seriousness on Wei Yao's face he stopped and asked with wide eyes, "Seriously!?"

Wei Yao nodded.

"It's true but it's also no longer important. What matters is what's happening right now. Our lives will stay the same for now except you will help me manage the gang. I will text you where and when tomorrow. For now I have stuff to do."

Lin Zhong nodded and was about to leave but he saw Wei Yao take the wooden box out of his bag.

"What's in there?"

"Jade, I will use it to carve some arrays."

Lin Zhong nodded and got up saying, "Do your stuff then. I won't bother you anymore."

Wei Yao nodded and said, "Tell Yun that I will be busy for a while and not to disturb me."

"Sure."

With that, he left the room and closed the door.

Wei Yao laid back and let out a big sigh of relief, feeling as if a load was taken off his chest.

He didn't waste time though as he got off the bed and sat on the ground with the box by his side.

He opened it but ignored the jade bowl for now, instead he took out the most expensive piece of jade.

Time to make a downgraded spirit gathering array. I can't afford any mistakes. It will be a little taxing with my low qi reserves and undeveloped body but with my skill it shouldn't be too hard.

He put the jade in front of him and then put his finger on top of it.

As he concentrated, qi started to leave his dantian and gather on the tip of his finger.

He exerted force and the qi pierced into the jade about a quarter of an inch deep.

Dragging his finger along the jade he slowly carved the array into the jade.

Qi continuously poured out from his dantian.

At times he had the qi go deeper or shallower.

As he carved, the qi in the atmosphere around him seemed to become more active.

At the same time though he was sweating bullets and gritting his teeth in pain.

But not only was he not upset, he was actually happy.

My body's meridians aren't used to handling this much strong qi, especially continuously for so long. This will greatly help enlarge and strengthen them.

He carved on all sides and it took around eight minutes before he lifted his finger off the jade for the first time. He breathed out a sigh of relief as his qi reserves were almost empty.

At that moment, the qi around him seemed to become sentient as it started gathering towards the now slightly glowing jade full of patterns and markings.

Even if its grade is technically worse than even the lowest level array, with my skills and decently pure qi, it should be quite effective.
