"Ah, are you Mr. Insanity? we just delivered your purchased goods. You weren't home so we left it just in front of the barn."
"Hmm, Are you the delivery group for the kitchen goods merchant?"
"No, we are the general delivery personnel for the whole merchant house. The merchants rent us to deliver goods, ah customers can also ask us to deliver stuff too so if you have something you want delivered all over the human continent feel free to give a commission at the merchants house."
"Thanks, I'll keep that in mind."
"Thank you for using our services. We hope to hear more from you. If you'll excuse us, Good day to you."

As expected of a merchants underlings, very professional and they slip in a casual advertisement. Even if they look like giant muscular bodybuilders they have good manners. Looks like the newcomer training for the merchants and those affiliated with them are strict.

That group of crates in front of the barn must be it. Looks like it's all here, ah I forgot to buy a whetstone. Never mind, looks like the merchant included a one with the knives. It must be part of the knives set. I still need a different one for my weapons though. Looks like I have to return there tomorrow. How bothersome, they might think I'm a regular impulse customer. What do I do when the start visiting my farm to show off their latest products.

Unlike monsters, humans don't have a countermeasure. There is the option to kill them but that would only bring more trouble, I don't want to go back to prison after all. I'll handle it when it comes for now I need to start my field.

Hmm, Even if I shave off the space near the forest I still have a pretty big field. Maybe around three football field side by side size-wise in front and around a basketball court size to either side of my house and barn. My backyard is obviously 3 side by side football field side by side in width but only only a basketball court length deep. I have a pretty large land, I should put it to good use.

Maybe I can layer trees outside to act as a natural barrier and put most of the vegetables in the middle. I'm worried about the middle not getting enough sunlight so I could elevate it using earth magic. Around half the trees height should be enough, I don't want it to block the trees after all. The herbs can live in the on the other side of the house away from the road to the village.

Alright, with a a field this big I can at least make 4 layers of trees, better get started.

*rumble* *crash* *rumble*

Mix the soil with earth magic and raise the middle and mix the raised part too. This is the limit of my magic, so exhausting. This world doesn't have a way to quantify magic. Maybe they would have if a certain someone added it in the status. The only way to know the limit of your magic is to use it until you faint. First year students generally have enough magic to scramble a basketball sized field once as they progress school they may increase in times but they mostly teach how to control how to use it effectively. They can do it a lot of times in the farm because earth magic is being transferred there from the mine.

I can do it at most eight times but I think thats because of the otherworld/hero buff, I'm just guessing though. Even if I can the princess can do it 30 times and that was before she acquired the magician class.

Anyway for the remaining work I have to do it by hand. I still don't have the specific for farming but I have a general idea of it. Just churn the field before planting to loosen the soil and arrange that long small speed bump where I plant the seed on the top. For the tree I just don't need the speed bump but I still need to space it properly if I want that nice looking layers of trees.

I should have enough seeds for it so lets start with the trees, they should grow before winter right? Wait even if they grow can saplings survive through winter? hmm, I have extra seeds and this is another world where there are a lot more dangers so all living things in this world must have a stronger will to live. I'm sure the seed will stubbornly live through winter. GO, SEED!

Making a small water canal to moisturize the field should be needed? No, I can ignore that and use water magic to shower the whole field every morning and afternoon. If I dig a canal I have to connect it to a source after all.

I need to layer the seeds now, two layers of orange trees outside, then a layer of apple trees and cherry trees in the innermost layer. Perfect, this is the perfect layer of trees. I wanted a layer of coconut on the outermost so I can make some coconut bomb traps but they don't grow in these parts after all. Since the human continent is on the top part of connected flower shaped continent, which means the equator is still way down south.

Next are the crops, even if there are four layers of trees the space is still ridiculously huge. I'll divide it into eight parts and plant watermelon, squash, radish, rice, tomato, cabbage, carrots and spinach. I can customized the different sections to fit the needs of each crops. Compared to the other farmers who only plant a couple of different ones I won't harvest a particularly large yield but most of the food I am harvesting is only for me so I need to go for variety instead of quantity.

Finally done, it took me a whole afternoon but I manage to get it done. Dawn is almost here, I need to finish it before sleeping so I can feel at peace at least. Magic power recovers slowly especially if you don't have a magic related job or class so I can't cast another spell to help me today. Good thing I bought that axe, I never stopped my daily exercise since 10 years ago and a [Butler] is a physical type class which means even if I don't have magic I have enough power to finish this job.

Wait, if I started cutting down trees in the forest won't the snakes and other creatures attack me? I'm not like the construction crew they have a whole group of people while I am only by myself. I can't generate enough noise to frighten them either, it would just be the sound of one person chopping a tree.

I will start with the wire trap for the kobold so I can then the pitfalls for the orcs then the spikes for the goblin. This way if something does attack me when I'm making the spikes I can retreat and collect myself before sniping them with my bow. Good plan.

Considering an orcs height I should dig it at least 1.5x the size of their bodies. Hmm, maybe 2.5x so even if another one falls it won't fill up as fast. The length and width should fit around 3-5 of them.

*dig* *dig* *dig* *dig*

This would go so much faster if I still have enough magic power left. Ah, its getting pretty deep I should set up my rope so I can get out.

*dig* *dig* *dig* *dig*

There thats one hole done. Its deep and wide enough. I need to dig up a lot in a wide arc in case they want to go around it.

Next are the kobold wire traps but before that what what am I supposed to do with all this dirt I dug up. I should have used this dirt to make the raised portion of my farm that way I didn't have to use as much magic power as necessary.

I can't do it anymore since the seeds are already planted.....maybe I can use this dirt as an earth wall of some sort. The problem is where to place them though. It can't be before the pitfall since I have to rebuild is over and over again every time something attacks, I can't put it before the spikes since that would slow the stampede of goblins getting crushed by the spikes, Not before the wire traps either since they can use it as a jump off to get over the wire, and after the wire location are the trees.

I could make my wire trap coverage a big smaller and place it in between it and the trees but the kobolds could make use of that short distance to jump on top of their fallen comrades to get across. No, thats perfect, If I made a tall wall there even if they jumped on their fallen comrade they would still be blocked by the wall. I can also set up some kind of watchtower there so I can have a good vantage point. With this much soil I can make at least a 12 foot tall tower roughly 3 foot thick. I don't have to worry about the wall casting a shadow on the trees since they are directly south however I do need to give enough space between the wall and the tree.

This means I have to move my trap placements a bit more into the forest. I would have to chop down the trees either way so I need to dig that far into the forest and fill up the back end of my pitfalls so I can create more space for the trees. I might finish this around midnight, starting a self-sufficient life is hard as always.

Ah, I forgot to water the seeds.

I'm sick right now so release would have to slow down, sorry. I'll make up for it by releasing extra after getting better. I have a lot of time to think though so I have been revising some of the future chapters. I also decided to add a third person narrator in the second volume. First time I tried writing so that will be fun.
