Actually, that's a nice lead in question for me, Mr. Williburt Brierly of Nine O'clock News with your blue suit and perfect hair, "Because it doesn't really matter where my office is. To avoid international travel laws, it needs to be somewhere in this country, but beyond that? Well, have you ever wanted to visit, oh, Mount Rushmore?" I open a portal to the iconic landmark, "I can make a door from anywhere to anywhere. The ones suitable for mass transit like I've installed in passenger airports around the country take some effort," and there's the plug. It's a lie, but there's the plug, "and of course, the airport has infrastructure they need to maintain, so I have to charge something there. But I can leave little doors for my embassy staff anywhere people are comfortable having them," and by blocking the portal with stone, they'll be usable only by people like my staff with Earth Glide, phase door, or similar… or who are just really good with sledgehammers, I suppose, "so we can be anywhere we're welcome. We'll be taking applications by mail, here, for anyone who wants to host such a gate." OK, I just made that up, but we absolutely can.

I watch as the reporter and camera man examine the gate for a while; the cameraman even flies through briefly - one of my customers, apparently - and looks around. Apparently he figures that while the view is awesome, the person that made it possible is more newsworthy: he turns the camera back on me soon enough.

"Wow that's amazing, Chris…" we go on for a little longer, but I'm kind of burned out on interviews, so I make suitably diplomatic excuses and take my leave of him after a short while, closing the portal to Mount Rushmore.

Which also, of course, means I can finally see about setting Jessica back as she was. Except… oh, ethics. Do I remove the person she IS to restore the person she WAS. That's assuming I even can. Which… reasonable odds at least one of those commands will do the job, or at least get her closer. Of course, if I just ask Jessica what she thinks, I'll get something along the lines of, oh, "whatever you think best, my goddess, I am yours." So… maybe James? He's got a stake in matters, and knows her very well, being her partner.

Ugh. My chest is full, though… but I also don't really want to put that discussion off … fine, I guess I'll milk myself, put it in the fridge, and just distribute with the next batch. So I pull out my apartment Keyhome that has the setup, go through my milking, bottle everything and… oh. The half-ounce bottles take up more room in the fridge. Of course. Eh, Jessica won't mind if I use her fridge. She barely uses it, it'll only be a matter of hours, and right now I'm her absolute ruler anyway. So I open a portal into her fridge, and store the extras there.

I then mentally ping James, 《Hi James, I have an ethical conundrum and I'd like to pick your brains about it. Are you free for an in-person meet up?》

《Yeah, I can spare an hour or two. I'm near Jessica's and your place… meet you there?》 Oh, he thinks of it as our place now? That's nice.

《Works for me. See you soon.》

I close up my Keyhome and Warp over to Jessica's… our… place, and watch the news in the living room for a while… seems my new neighbors are none too happy about the sudden big blocky building, and even less happy about the government fencing. I can handle the building thing without too much trouble… Greater Link for targeting, Incursion Link to let me use Spell Channel from any distance, and then Spell Channel itself to throw a specific spell originating from one of my Conjuration Companions: a Mirage Arcana, which lets me change the appearance of buildings... like my big blocky embassy.  Adding Persistent Spell means almost nobody will see through it.  The combo lets me quickly modify the appearance of the building from anywhere, including off plane, making it look like a much smaller building. There: Now it doesn't shade their flowerbeds. I can't do much about the government fencing, though. And… Oh. Iran is no longer a nation. Some of the surrounding countries made land grabs, all at the same time. Apparently they're being condemned by the UN for it… but there’s not exactly anything to do about it, the conquering is already done. Huh. Also some commentary on the continuing snowstorm at what was once Tehran… eh, boring.

Before I turn it to a different news channel, there's a knock at the door, and Improved Blindsight tells me it's James. I go open the door for him as he's… fumbling with his keys? Huh. Good to know Jessica trusts him that much.

"Hi Chris, expecting me, do you have cameras out here, scrying sensors, or…?"

"Hi James, I can kind of see through walls. Thanks for coming, come on in."

James smiles, "Anytime. It's a good thing that the most powerful man on the planet actually thinks about ethics, and isn't so full of himself as to think he's always going to be right."

Who's he… oh, me, I suppose. I guess I am. Well, unless you count… ugh, so annoying that I can't even think the name. "Well… always good to have other perspectives, and this particular one… well, it’s about Jessica, and you know her better than probably anyone."

James pauses as he fetches a couple of beers from Jessica's fridge, "And it's an ETHICS question? Don't cheat on her, there's your answer."

Heh, "That's not in question. There was a bit of a magical accident and Jessica's no longer entirely who she was before."

"Is that why she's gushing about you more than usual as she's breaking records solving cases?" James sits down at the kitchen table, cracks one of the beers open, and sets the other at a nearby chair. I take the hint, sit down, crack it open, and take a sip as he does.

"Yeah. She can't say no to me anymore. Like, literally. She now WANTS to do everything I ask, and to be nothing more than my devoted servant. I can… maybe leverage that into making her more like she was…"

"... But you would effectively be editing her, and her consent on that would be questionable at best," James takes a drink.

"Yeah." I do too. Not that the beer does anything to either of us, thanks to buffs. Social ritual, I guess.

James frowns, "Hmm… tough one. So… what happened?"

"Well, she ran out of creamer for her coffee…"

"Let me guess: And used your milk?" He looks at me across his beer bottle.

"Yeah… and the next day she woke up as a Half-Celestial."

"Pretty nice template when you don't have to worry about level adjustment or 'appropriate encounters'... that warped her mind?"

"Not that I noticed, no. Just gave her wings, stats, and the other stuff from the template. It was the third dose one day when we were… ummm…"

"Doing the horizontal mambo? Clapping clams? Making the beast with two backs? Getting to 'know' each other Biblically? Engaging in…"

My face warms up and I interrupt, "Yes, that. Anyway, after the third dose, she turned into a Solar. MY Solar."

James take a deep breath, and whistles slowly, "That's… a lot of power."

"Oh, that isn't the half of it. Her Oracle and Summoner levels went up to match. She turned level twenty three overnight. But!" I pause and take a drink.

James finishes the thought well enough, "But she’s YOUR angel now. You are her goddess, she does what you say. Period. And you don't really want that kind of power over another person." Jessica's partner takes another drink.

"Exactly."

James chuckles, "I don't think you have anything to worry about. Leave her be, it doesn't change anything, not really."

OK, maybe I'm dense, "Care to explain?"

James smiles as he rolls his eyes, "She's always been your angel, Chris. Even before the first dose. Abyss, she'd have done anything for you since shortly after you two met. I mean, think about it, how'd she get her first dose?"

My cheeks had just started cooling off, too… I look away.

"Exactly. And not too terribly long after, you convinced her to hop into bed with me, when she's got no interest at all in what I'm packing. She's always been yours, it's just more overt now," James laughs.

Oh, "So… not the disaster I thought? I haven't warped her out of all recognition?"

"Barely noticeable. If you hadn't told me I would have simply thought she'd fallen further for you. She's amplified, but she's still essentially herself. You can rest easy."

“Well… thanks.”

“Anytime, my friend. I’m really glad it’s you that got this power, rather than someone else. I mean, can you imagine what would happen if, say, a gangbanger got it?”

It’s my turn to chuckle, “You need to know a LOT to make the kind of use of it that I do. Seriously, your basic gangbanger would probably just end up as a barbarian or a fighter or an antipaladin or something.”

“True that. Well, anything else?”

“Eh, nah. I have a few things to take care of… figure I’ll pop over and see how Jessica’s doing.”

“She’s at the station, filing yet another case for the district attorney. That poor, poor man. He’s going to be getting a lot of overtime. You go ahead, I’ll lock up.”

“Thanks, be seeing you…” I teleport away.
