I wake up with a sense of excitement and anticipation. Today is the day of my first date with Captain Carter. It's been a whirlwind since we first met, with the amnesia excuse, the Rhino incident, and everything in between. But now, I have the chance to spend a day with her, away from the chaos and danger.

I quickly get ready, making sure to look my best. After all, this is a date with a superhero, and I want to make a good impression. I put on a casual yet stylish outfit, comb my hair neatly, and take one last glance in the mirror before heading out.

We had agreed to meet at a charming little café in the heart of the city. I arrived at the spot early.

As I sat at the café, time seemed to drag on, and there was no sign of Captain Carter. I checked my phone, making sure I hadn't missed any messages or calls from her. Nothing.

A sense of disappointment started to creep in. I mean, she promised to take a day off for our date and yet she failed. I took out my phone and dialed her number.

I took out my phone and dialed Captain Carter's number, hoping for an explanation for her absence. After a few rings, she finally answered.

"Hello?" her voice came through the phone, slightly breathless.

"Hey, it's me. Are you okay? You're late for our date," I said, trying to hide the disappointment in my voice.

"Oh, I'm so sorry," she replied, sounding genuinely apologetic. "Something unexpected came up, and I got caught up in a situation. I really didn't mean to leave you waiting."

"What happened? Is everything alright?" I asked, concern replacing my initial disappointment.

"I can't go into details right now, but there was an incident that needed my immediate attention," she explained. "I promise it's nothing personal. I truly wanted to spend the day with you."

I sighed, understanding that duty sometimes takes precedence. "I get it. You're a superhero, and duty calls. Just wish you could have let me know earlier."

"I know, and I'm truly sorry for the inconvenience. Is there any way we can reschedule our date? I really do want to make it up to you," she said sincerely.

I hesitated for a moment, feeling a mix of disappointment and understanding. But, I feel like this thing won't work between us. The owner of this body felt the same way and I as someone who due to some cosmic shit reborn in this body, think so too.

It's like we barely talked a few times over the past few days and if I were to continue to chase her, then, I would be neglecting my own needs and desires. I deserve someone who can prioritize our relationship and make time for me. It's clear that Captain Carter's superhero duties will always come first, and I can't fault her for that. But it's also important for me to prioritize my own happiness.

With a heavy sigh, I replied, "I appreciate the offer to reschedule, but I think it's best if we go our separate ways. It's clear that our priorities don't align, and I don't want to be constantly left waiting or feeling like I come second. I wish you all the best, Captain Carter."

She listened to my words, and there was a moment of silence on the other end of the line. I could sense her disappointment and maybe a tinge of regret.

"I understand," she finally replied, her voice filled with a mix of sadness and acceptance. "I'm sorry if I've let you down, Brian. I truly thought we had a connection, but I can't ignore my responsibilities as a superhero."

I shook my head, even though she couldn't see me. "Yeah, your superhero responsibilities are so big that you couldn't even do a phone call."

I could sense a hint of frustration in my voice, but I tried to remain calm. It was important to express my feelings honestly without lashing out.

"You're right. I should have made an effort to at least inform you. I apologize for that," she admitted, her tone filled with remorse.

Silence hung between us for a moment before I spoke again, my voice softer this time. "I don't blame you for your dedication to being a superhero. It's an admirable quality. But... You see being a superhero is all you have ever known, and it's clear that it will always be your top priority. I don't want to hold you back from fulfilling your duty or make you feel guilty for doing what you believe is right."

After a slight pause, I said, "Goodbye, Captain." And disconnected the call.

As I ended the call, a mix of emotions washed over me. I felt sadness and disappointment, but also a sense of relief. It wasn't an easy decision to let go of the possibility of a relationship with Captain Carter, but I knew it was the right one for both of us.

I sat at the café for a little while longer, trying to process my feelings and gather my thoughts. A dream... Haaa... Damn it! Why the fuck did I end it? Argggg! I want to scream. But, oh, well... I think I will have some nice food for myself. It's actually good that I laid it directly to her face. Maybe she will feel bad and come back to me. Who knows?

"Brian?" A familiar voice called me from behind. I turned around and saw Gwen standing there, a concerned expression on her face.

"Gwen? What are you doing here?" I asked, surprised to see her.

"I saw you sitting here alone, and I thought maybe something was wrong. Are you okay?" she asked, taking a seat across from me.

I sighed, running a hand through my hair. "Well, my date with Captain Carter didn't exactly go as planned. Duty called, and she couldn't make it."

Gwen frowned, her eyes filled with empathy. "I'm sorry to hear that. It must be disappointing."

"Yeah, it is," I admitted, looking down at the table. "But I realized that maybe it's for the best. Our priorities are just too different, and I deserve someone who can make time for me."

Gwen nodded in understanding. "You're right, Brian. It's important to be with someone who can prioritize your relationship and make you feel valued."

I looked up at her, a small smile forming on my lips. "Thanks, Gwen. I appreciate your support."

She reached across the table and placed her hand on mine. "You're a great person, Brian. You deserve happiness, and I hope you find someone who can give that to you."

Her touch sent a warmth through me, and I couldn't help but feel a connection with her in that moment. Maybe... just maybe, there's something more here.

"Actually, Gwen," I said, my voice filled with newfound determination. "Would you like to grab a bite to eat with me? Since we're both here, we can keep each other company."

Gwen's eyes lit up with a smile, and she nodded eagerly. "I'd love to, Brian. Let's have a meal together and enjoy each other's company."

As we sat there, talking and sharing a meal, I couldn't help but feel a sense of hope and excitement for what the future might hold. Maybe this unexpected turn of events would lead to something even better than I had anticipated.

And so, we spent the evening together, enjoying each other's company, and getting to know each other on a deeper level. It was the beginning of a new chapter in my life, one filled with possibilities and the potential for a meaningful connection.
