From that point onwards, Lei Jun came to live in Song Shai courtyard. Sleeping there at night and rising early to go work in the kitchen by day while closely analyzing how everything was prepared. The kitchen staff did not mind as the maids who used to ‘work’ under Song Shai had also gone through the same training, in order to provide her meals. Furthermore, they could  always use an extra hand in the kitchen. The only problem came when Song Shai ‘Mother’ found out. She became furious with Song Shai, as she tried to reprimand her daughter and force Lei Jun out of the kitchen. However, each time Song Shai would defend the boy and reflect Mistress Song’s cruel worlds back at her in a taunting yet emotionless manner. Unbeknownst to Song Shai, Lei Jun would also stare down Mistress Song whenever she tried to reprimand him in the kitchen, scaring her so much that she no longer dared.

After the month went by Song Shai noticed great improvement in the foods taste, not only was it healthy and nutritious, but it was also filled with a strange savory flavor Song Shai had never tasted before and couldn't quite comprehend. All throughout the month that Le Jun worked under the kitchen staff he would always bring food to her at lunch and dinner, allowing her to eat food as well as critique it. This also allowed Song Shai body to gain much needed weight, since before she had often missed meals due to the maids negligence. Now her hair had become silky and straight, while her skin became glossy and no longer had a yellow tint, she was still very pale, but now her skin looked ashen snowy. She truly was an enchanting beauty now.

However, unlike Song Shai, Lei Jun was still quite scrawny and malnourished looking, and although he had just turned eleven, he still looked to be quite younger than his actual age. Song Shai was surprised to see only a small difference in Lei Jun's figure. He was a ten year old boy who looked to be around eight due to his malnourished form. Therefore, once Lei Jun’s month of working in the kitchen was over and his days freed to serve her, she finally instructed him on his next task.

“Since, you are no longer working in the kitchen. I will now give you my next order as your master. From now on, after cooking every meal, you must then sit with me and eat.”

Lei Jun was surprised upon hearing Song Shai order. The entire month was surreal to him, it had been years since he lived in a house, and slept in a warm bed. When he first met Song Shai, he thought he was incapable of trusting another human being, yet, when he looked at her dark misty eyes that said everything would be alright, they put him at ease. After seeing how Song Shai ‘Mother’ treated her , he became shocked as an overwhelming sense to protect came over him, one that he again thought he was incapable of. When she had told him he was to sleep in the building separate from her courtyard his mind involuntarily blanked as his mouth started to make excuses as to why he should stay closer to her. And when she ordered him to cook he was startled at her request but pleased. By being the sole means of providing her food, he would be able to keep Song Shai healthy and allow no poison to reach her. Therefore, the whole month while working under the cooks he tried to learn everything, not missing a single detail, and while he worked he had expected Song Shai to make little requests, after all, currently he was her only servant at her disposal but surprisingly she never asked for anything, making him in turn work twice as hard. So when she finally made another request he had felt a tension that he didn't realize he was holding slip away as he wholly listened to his master. Yet, after hearing her request, his eyes slightly clouded over with unreadable feelings.

“What right do I have to sit at my master's servant when I am but a humble servant?” Lei Jun asked holding his head down. All this time, although Song Shai was kind to him, he did not dare bridge there relationship from that of master and servant. Without clear defining lines, he would become confused and feared she would come to hate him. He could not understand why he wanted to cling so close to the girl, nor did he care to know why, all he wanted was to be able to stay by Song Shai side for as long as she’d allow him, as she was the only person in the world he could trust, and the only reason he kept on living. These thoughts repeated in his mind until Song Shais again completely destroyed his mentally as she spoke.

“What are you talking about, I may be your master in terms of this house, but we are equal to each other in accordance with our agreement. We agreed that you would become my servant, and in return I would help you destroy this cruel world, don’t think I’ve forgotten. We are partners. Besides, it is the masters job to see what her servants eat because if you don’t eat and become strong, how will you protect your master.” Song Shai said as she became lost in thought, her emotionless eyes looking towards the top left.

“Ha, Ha… you truly are kind, unlike any human I’ve ever met, I wish I could have met you sooner...” Lei Jun spoke as he looked towards Song Shai’s dark emotionless eyes that were pointed even farther to the left, avoiding his eyes. If it weren’t for her emotionless expression, Lei Jun would think she was slightly embarrassed.

Hmm what a strange boy Song Shai thought, he too is quite unique. In all the different worlds, no human has ever told me before that I am kind. Song Shai thought as unbeknownst to her, her dark misty eyes brightened for just a mere second.
